통비음(通痺飮)과 건요음(健腰飮)의 선호도에 대한 임상연구 (The Clinical Study on Preference of TongBiEum and GunYoEum)

  • Objective: In oriental medicine, development of new formulations has been demanded. But, there are few reports about the improvement of formulations of herbal medicine in Korea. Nowadays soft Ex has been exploited and used comparing with retort pouch. This study was designed to study on preference on TongBiEum(通痺飮)/GunYoEum(健腰飮) and to investigate which OMD(oriental medical doctor) and non-OMD prefer soft Ex or retort pouch. Methods: As pilot study we administerd TongBiEum(通痺飮) once to 30 persons who serviced Gumi Oriental Medical hospital, Daegu Haany University from April 1, 2003 to April 10, 2003. And then we administerd GunYoEum(健腰飮) once to final test group(73 persons) who serviced Daegu, Gumi, Pohang Oriental Medical hospital, Daegu Haany University from April 20, 2003 to May 10, 2003. We made up questionaires about feeling during and after taking medicine, convenience and preference ect. Results: Convenience and preference of soft Ex is significantly different between OMD and non-OMD and in age bracket, but there is no significance between men and women group. Portable state of soft Ex is very convenient, dose of soft Ex is a little amount, color of soft Ex is regular in OMD & non-OMD, men & Women and an age bracket. Conclusions: From above study it was revealed that preference of herbal medicine formulations was significantly different between OMD and non-OMD. So development of new herbal medicine formulations is needed for consumers such as non-OMD.

Exchange Coupling in NiFe/Ni Bilayer Fabricated By Electrodeposition

  • Bilayers of soft NiFe (150 nm-420 nm) on hard Ni (150 nm) were prepared by electrodeposition. The process of magnetization reversal in the NiFe/Ni bilayers was then investigated. The hysteresis loop generated by a magnetization reversal of soft NiFe under a positive saturation state of a hard Ni layer shows a shift along the negative field axis, which is clear evidence for the exchange spring effect in the NiFe/Ni bilayers. The dependence of the coercive field $H_c$ and exchange bias field Hex on the thickness of the NiFe layer was also investigated. As the NiFe thickness increases from 150 nm to 420 nm, both $H_c$ and $H_{ex}$ decrease rapidly from $H_c$= 51.7 Oe and $H_{ex}$ = 12.2 Oe, and saturate to $H_c$ = 5.8 Oe and $H_{ex}$ = 3.5 Oe.

Soft Tissue Measurement Method Using Radiopaque Material on Cone-beam Computed Tomography: An Ex Vivo Validation Study

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity and reproducibility of a method based on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) technology for the visualization and measurement of gingival soft-tissue dimensions. Material and Methods: A total of 66 selected points in soft-tissue of the ex vivo head of an adult pig were investigated in this study. For the measurement of radiographic thickness (RT), wet soft-tissue surfaces were lightly covered with barium sulfate powder using a powder spray. CBCT was taken and DICOM files were assessed for soft-tissue thickness measurement at reference points. A periodontal probe and a rubber stop were used for the measurement of trans-gingival probing thickness (TPT). After flap elevation, actual thickness of soft-tissue (actual thickness, AT) was measured. Correlation analysis and intraclass correlation coefficients analysis (ICC) were performed for AT, TPT, and RT. Results: All variables were distributed normally. Strong significant correlations of AT with RT and TPT values were found. The two ICC values between TPT vs. AT and RT vs. AT differed significantly. Conclusion: Our results indicated that correlation of RT was stronger than that of TPT with AT. We concluded that soft tissue measurement with CBCT could be a reliable method, compared to the trans-gingival probing measurement method.

Rhizopus stolonifer에 의한 여주 무름병 (Rhizopus Soft Rot on Momordica charantia Caused by. Rhizopus stolenifer in Korea)

  • 2003년부터 2005년까지 경남 창원시 대산면 북부마을 여주재배 농가에서 Rhizopus stolonifer에 의한 여주 무름병이 발생하였다. 병징은 처음 과실껍질 부분이 수침상으로 물러지면서 빠르게 부패되었다. 균사생육 적온은 $25^{\circ}C$ 내외로 처음 흰색에서 연한 갈색으로 되며 검은색의 포자낭을 많이 형성한다. 포자낭경은 처음 흰색에서 회색을 나타내며 포자낭을 균사 끝에 형성하고 폭은 $15\~30{\mu}m$ 이었다. 포자낭은 처음에 흰색에서 나중에 검은색으로 되었고 모양은 반구형으로 크기는 $90\~180{\mu}m$이었다. 주축의 모양은 반구형으로 크기는 $80\~150{\mu}m$이었다. 포자낭포자는 담갈색으로 단포이며 구형 또는 타원형으로 불규칙한 것이 많으며 크기는 $7\~18{\times}6\~12{\mu}m$이었다. 이상과 같은 병원균의 균학적 및 병원학적 특성조사 결과로 본 병해를 Rhizopus stolonifer (Ehrenberg ex. Fr.) Lind에 의한 여주 무름병으로 명명할 것을 제안한다.

Effects of Phosphorous-doping on Electrochemical Performance and Surface Chemistry of Soft Carbon Electrodes

  • The impact of phosphorous (P)-doping on the electrochemical performance and surface chemistry of soft carbon is investigated by means of galvanostatic cycling and ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). P-doping plays an important role in storing more Li ions and discernibly improves reversible capacity. However, the discharge capacity retention of P-doped soft carbon electrodes deteriorated at $60^{\circ}C$ compared to non-doped soft carbon. This poor capacity retention could be improved by vinylene carbonate (VC) participating in forming a protective interfacial chemistry on soft carbon. In addition, the effect of P-doping on exothermic thermal reactions of lithiated soft carbon with electrolyte solution is discussed on the basis of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results.

SAM p6 mouse에서 자하거 주사제의 골다공증 개선에 대한 연구 (Effects on osteoporosis of Senescence Accelerated Mice (SAM) P6 by Injection of Placenta extracts ($Beuronel^{(R)}$))

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the Hominis placenta extracts on improvement of senile osteoporosis (Type 2) in SAM P6. In traditional Oriental medicine, Placenta (Jahageo) is indicated for insufficiency of blood and tidal fever due to steaming bone disorder. Methods : At 10 weeks after birth, Placenta ex. was given 100 mL, 200 ml/kg/day, i.p. 3 times a week for 4 weeks in SAM P6 mice. And then we measured complete blood cells, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, inorganic phosphate and total iron. In addition, we tested bone mineral density (BMD) using the soft X-ray. Results : As a result, in SAM P6, injection of Placenta ex. (200 mL) increased in RBC, HB and PLT, in comparison with control group. It was also found that the inorganic phosphate levels increased significantly in the injection groups of the Placenta ex. from that of the control group, but blood urea nitrogen was no significant. Moreover, Placenta ex. were showed a trend of increase in bone mineral density (BMD) of the vertebrae lumbales and tibia in P6 mice. Conclusions : These findings suggest that Placenta ex. are effective in preventing bone loss in SAMP6.

방폭형 제전기의 개발 및 평가방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of an Electrostatic Eliminator and Evaluating Method of Explosion-Protection Construction)

  • Electrostatic eliminators are essential in various areas of manufacturing industries to protect electrostatic hazards and to reduce inferior products. For ion sources used in the charge neutralizers, there are corona discharge, soft X-ray, and ultraviolet and glow discharge. Among them, corona discharge is generally used, because the corona discharge can easily and economically produce positive and negative ions including electrons in air at atmospheric pressure. But it is necessary to equip explosion-protection electrostatic eliminators wherever hazardous atmosphere. The electrostatic eliminators and their testing method of explosion-protection type have been developed in this research. The contents and scope of the research as follows; developing the type 'Ex s IIB T4' electrostatic eliminator of explosion-protection; developing the type 'Ex s d IIB T4' electrostatic eliminator of explosion-protection; developing the explosion-protection performance testing method of electrostatic eliminator for using AC power source.

Simulation and Measurement of Thermal Ablation in a Tissue-Mimicking Phantom and Ex-Vivo Porcine Liver by Using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

  • The present study aims to investigate experimentally and theoretically thermal ablation in soft tissues by using high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to assess tissue damage during HIFU thermotherapy. The HIFU field was calculated by solving the axisymmetric Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov equation from the frequency-domain perspective. The temperature field was calculated by solving Pennes' bioheat transfer equation, and the thermal dose required to create a thermal lesion was calculated by using the thermal dose formula based on the thermal dose of a 240-min exposure at $43^{\circ}C$. In order to validate the simulation results, we performed thermal ablation experiments in a tissue-mimicking phantom and ex-vivo porcine liver for two different HIFU source conditions by using a 1.1-MHz, single-element, spherically focused HIFU transducer. The small difference between the measured and the predicted lesion sizes suggests that the implementation of the numerical model used here should be modified to iteratively allow for temperature-dependent changes in the physical properties of tissues.

Numerical Modeling of Compression-Controlled Low-level Laser Probe for Increasing Photon Density in Soft Tissue

  • Various methods have been investigated to increase photon density in soft tissue, an important factor in low-level laser therapy. Previously we developed a compression-controlled low-level laser probe (CCLLP) utilizing mechanical negative compression, and experimentally verified its efficacy. In this study, we used Bezier curves to numerically simulate the skin deformation and photon density variation generated by the CCLLP. In addition, we numerically modeled changes in optical coefficients due to skin deformation using a linearization technique with appropriate parameterization. The simulated results were consistent with both human in vivo and porcine ex vivo experimental results, confirming the efficacy of the CCLLP.

베트남지역에서의 연약지반 개량 설계.시공 사례 (A Case Study on Soft Soil Treatment Design and Construction in Vietnam)

  • GS E&C was awarded the contract for the construction of Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway Package EX-7 from Station Km 72+000 to Station Km 81+300 in December 2008. This project is the $7^{th}$ contract package of the 105.5 km long expressway near Hai Phong city, which includes a FCM-styled bridge along with high embankments over soft ground. For these high embankments, there is a need to treat the soft soil for improving the overall stability during construction and for reducing the post-construction settlement of the expressway. The Designer of this project had adopted four (4) different types of ground improvement techniques to treat the soft ground, including the prefabricated vertical drains (PVD), sand drains (SD), pack drains (PD, or sometimes called packed sand drains), and sand compaction piles (SCP). The main focus of soft soil treatment should be paid attention to the residual settlement after construction. In current design, however, it appeared that the secondary compression (or creep) of the improved soil layer and the consolidation settlement of the lower untreated compressible soil layer have been neglected in the estimation of the post-construction settlement. These uncalculated residual settlements may not only unsatisfy the design criteria but also raise serious problems during service period of this expressway. In this paper, the subsoil condition and current design were reviewed focusing on the employed soft soil treatment method and expected residual settlement.
