  • This study investigated the relationship between maternal facilitative communication perceived by children and the social adjustment which was measured as pro-social behaviors and aggressive behaviors in children. Special attention was given to the mediating effect of the child's self-regulation on the relationship. The subjects, selected by convenience sampling method, were 193 fourth and fifth grade elementary school students. Data was analyzed through Pearson's correlation, reliability analysis, and multiple regression using the SPSS 12.0. The findings of the study were as follows. First, the mother's facilitative communication perceived by the child was positively associated with the pro-social behavior, while, it was negatively correlated with the aggressive behavior of the child. Second, the mother's facilitative communication had direct effect on the prosocial behavior and the aggressive behavior of the child. Third, the direct impact of facilitative communication on social adjustment was mediated by the self-regulation variable. Based on these findings, this study proposes strategies for the improvement of children's adjustment during late childhood.

  • The current study examined the relations among teachers' beliefs, behavioral self-regulation and school readiness of preschoolers. The study sample included 229 preschoolers aged 3 to 5 attending child care centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi area of Korea. Using Structural Equation Modeling, the paths from teachers' beliefs to children's school readiness via the mediation of their behavioral self-regulation were examined. Children's self-regulation was directly assessed using Head-to-Toe Tasks. The results showed that teachers' stronger beliefs in and responsibility for children's self-regulation and interpersonal skills significantly predicted greater behavioral self-regulation among children, which in turn, significantly influenced greater social skills and work-related skills. The contribution of teachers' beliefs and behavioral regulation to social skills and work-related skills was positive and stronger for boys.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the degree of accident prevention behavior, self-esteem, self-regulation ability, and social support among middle-school students, and investigate factors influencing their practice of accident prevention behaviors. Methods: The participants were 174 students from two middle schools located in J city. Data were collected from December 28, 2017 to February 9, 2018 using self-reported questionnaires. Results: The mean score were $3.08{\pm}0.37$ of 4 for practice of accident prevention behaviors, $3.07{\pm}0.57$ of 4 for self-esteem, $3.69{\pm}0.48$ of 5 for self-regulation ability, and $3.38{\m}0.75$ of 5 for social support. Positive correlations were found among self-regulation ability, self-esteem, social support, and practice of accident prevention behaviors. The factors influencing the practice of accident prevention behaviors were personality (being 'haste') (${\beta}=-.20$, p=.003), self-regulation ability (${\beta}=.48$, p<.001), and social support (${\beta}=.23$, p<.001). These factors explained 39.0% of the variance in practice of accident prevention behaviors. Conclusion: It was found that the middle-school students engaged in prevention behavior to an extent that was insufficient to prevent accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to develop intervention strategies to improve the practice of accident prevention behavior among middle-school students, considering self-regulation ability, social support, and personality, which affect the practice of accident prevention behaviors.

The results were as follows: (1) There were statistically significant gender differences in the children's behavior problems, emotional regulation and social support. (2) Children's negative emotion explained boys and girls acting out problems and learning problems. Children's positive emotion regulation explained boys' and girls' shy-anxious and learning problems. Boys, who perceived less support from parents, displayed more acting out behavior, boys who perceived less supports from friends showed more shy-anxious behavior, and boys who perceived less supports from teachers exhibited more learning problems.

We surveyed 330 personal assistants for the disabled and asked them what they thought about social support, self-regulation, and job stress. Among them, a total of 276 subjects were included in the analysis. Moderated multiple regression (MMS) through the simultaneous-entry method was employed for the analysis using SPSS (PASW) 18.0 and PROCESS Macro for SPSS. The main results were as follows. First, social support and self-regulation contributed to the decrease in job stress. Second, self-regulation turned out to have a moderating effect on the relationship between social support and job stress, and enhanced the effect of social support on the decrease of job stress. Lastly, the implications and limitations of this study, as well as suggestions for future research, are discussed. This study suggests that besides external resources such as social support, internal resources such as self-regulation are necessary in order to manage job stress in the field of personal assistance services for the disabled.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore influencing factors of dysfunctional beliefs and emotion regulation strategy for nurses' problem solving ability. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional design with a sample of 745 nurses from 1 university hospital located in Gyeonggido. The scales were Dysfunctional Beliefs Test (70 items), Emotion Regulation Strategy Questionnaire (25 items) and Social Problem Solving Inventory (52 items). The data were analyzed using SPSS 17.0 employing ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean score for problem solving ability was 11.26 points. Influencing factors for nurses' problem solving ability were identified as 'active regulation style' in emotion regulation strategy and 'negative concept of social self' in dysfunctional beliefs. Conclusion: It is plausible to assume that dysfunctional beliefs which are vulnerability factors in cognitive variables and emotion regulation strategy affect nurses' problem solving ability.

The subject of this study was a survey of 350 children aged 3 to 5 who were enrolled in a kindergarten located in Seoul. Parents were asked to respond, and the collected data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics and SPSS Process Macro, and multiple regression analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis, and bootstrapping analysis were performed. The research results were as follows. First, the family health of single-parent families was partially positively correlated with self-regulation and social competence of infants. Second, it was found that the self-regulation ability of infants had a mediating effect on the relationship between single-parent family health and the social competence of infants.
