  • Smart Grid is a next-generation intelligent grid to optimize energy efficiency by integrating information and communication technologies to the existing power grid as a two-way exchange of information. HPGP communication standard for smart grid implementation has been developed for the emerging smart energy, home automation, electric vehicle communications applications. HPGP communication standard has the advantage of reducing cost and power consumption. Also, it can be interoperated with the previous HPAV communication standard. For the introduction of a new communication standard, the analysis of the reliability and interoperability verification is required. In this paper, we present sniffer test method as reliability test method about power line communication between PEV(Plug-in Electric Vehicle) and EVSE(Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment). Power line communication between PEV and EVSE is one of the most important Smart Gird applications. Also, we analyzed sniffer test results about power line communication based on HPGP between PEV and EVSE by using QCA7000 device, AVitar and Tool kit.

  • With the rapid growth of the up-to-date wireless network and Internet technologies, huge and various types of things around us are connected to the Internet and build the hyper-connected society, and lots of smart applications using these technologies are actively developed recently. IoT connects human, things, space, and data with various types of networks to construct the hyper-connected network that can create, collect, share and appling realtime information. Furthermore, most of the smart applications are concentrated on the service that can collect and store realtime contexts using various sensors and cloud technology, and provide intelligence by making inferences and decisions from them nowadays. In this paper, we design a smart application that can accurately control and process the current state of the specific context in realtime by using the state-of-the-art ICT techniques such as various sensors and cloud technologies on the IoT based mobile computing environment.

  • This study investigated the effects of smart phone usage motives and fashion brand app factors upon the intention to accept fashion brand applications. Data were collected from 250 female college students living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. 220 reliable data were analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, ANOVA,, Duncan test, paired t-test, chi-square analysis, regression. The results were as follows: Firstly, the 'information acquisition' and the'use of time' were considered to be the most important motive factors driving consumer's smart phone usage. Secondly, the motives underpinning smart phone user's intention to accept a fashion brand application were 'social relationships', 'entertainment', and 'information acquisition'. Thirdly, the frequently used factors during the usage of fashion brand application could be classified in order of frequency as follows: 'product information provision', 'store information provision', 'coordinated information provision', 'fashion information provision', 'entertainment provision', 'hobbies and life information provision', virtual wearing provision', 'SNS provision', and, 'events and coupons provision'. Fourthly, a factor analysis of these nine factors were classified into 'basic information type', and 'additional information type'. The influences of basic information type and the additional information type upon the intention to accept the fashion brand application showed the following significant result: The basic information type had a greater influence upon the intention to accept the fashion brand app.

  • Urban public health monitoring in smart cities focuses on the control of conditions and health challenges in urban environments. Considering the rapid spread of diseases and pandemics, it is important for health authorities to trace people carrying the virus. In smart cities, this tracing must be interoperable and intelligent, especially in indoor surfaces characterized by small distances between people. Therefore, to fight pandemics, it is necessary to start with the already-existing digital equipment of the Internet of Things, such as connected objects and smartphones. In this study, the developed system is employed to provide a social IoT network and suggest a strategy which allows reliable traceability without threatening the privacy of users. This IoT-based system allows respecting the social distance between persons sharing public services in smart cities without applying smartphone applications or severe confinement. It also permits a return to normal life in case of viral pandemic and ensures the much-desired balance between economy and health. The present study analyses previous proposed social distance systems then, unlike these studies, suggests an intelligent and distributed IoT based strategy for positioning students. Two scenarios of static and dynamic optimization-based placement of Bluetooth Low Energy devices are proposed and an experimental study shows the contribution and complementarity of the introduced contact tracing strategy with the applications on smartphones.

  • Mobile applications are significantly impacting people's smart phone using behavior and mobile industry value chain. By examining sources of data on mobile applications use, this study presents evidence about what factors would affect the amount of apps download, which may be useful to guide app designers and publishers to develop more persuasive new apps and marketing strategies. The results indicated app ranking had effect on download amount of apps in both Android app market and Apple app store, while prices of apps had no impact on the amount of download. App type, developer experience, and locality had effect on the amount of download only for paid apps in Apple app store.

  • Recently, there are many home network applications using the convergence between mobile platforms and home network system. As smart phones which are called small PC in the hand becoming popular, the development of home network application beyond the one of cellular phones is required. Android mobile platform of Google includes OS, middleware and primary applications. Also, in addition to smart phones, it can be mounted on various devices such as set-top box and household appliances. In this paper, home network services on smart phones of Android platform are designed and implemented. The services provide real-time monitoring information (temperature, humidity, real-time video) of rooms and appliance control in a house.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the elementary teachers' use of smart-phone applications (apps) in teaching-learning activities. The range of study includes the current usage patterns of apps in teaching-learning activities, elementary school teachers' understanding about apps usage in their classroom and providing the guideline about how to use apps for each subject in the classroom. We surveyed 100 elementary school teachers who are interested in smart education in Seoul. These teachers have an experience of working in a smart research school or have a computer-related master's degree. We expect that the result of the study will helpful for the elementary school teachers to design teaching materials using apps.

  • Botnets have become one of the most significant threats to Internet-connected smartphones. A botnet is a combination of infected devices communicating through a command server under the control of botmaster for malicious purposes. Nowadays, the number and variety of botnets attacks have increased drastically, especially on the Android platform. Severe network disruptions through massive coordinated attacks result in large financial and ethical losses. The increase in the number of botnet attacks brings the challenges for detection of harmful software. This study proposes a smart framework for mobile botnet detection using static analysis. This technique combines permissions, activities, broadcast receivers, background services, API and uses the machine-learning algorithm to detect mobile botnets applications. The prototype was implemented and used to validate the performance, accuracy, and scalability of the proposed framework by evaluating 3000 android applications. The obtained results show the proposed framework obtained 98.20% accuracy with a low 0.1140 false-positive rate.

  • We have previously demonstrated a microfluidic elastomer, which changes apparent color and could have potential applications in smart windows. The practical use of such functional microfluidic systems requires rapid and uniform fluid displacement throughout the channel network with minimal amount of liquid supply. The goal of this simulation study is to design various microfluidic networks for similar applications including, but not limited to, the color-switching windows and compare the liquid displacement speed and efficiency of the designs. We numerically simulate and analyze the liquid displacement in the microfluidic networks with serpentine, parallel and lattice channel configurations, as well as their modified versions with wide or tapered distributor and collector channels. The data are analyzed on the basis of numerical criteria defined to evaluate the performance of the corresponding functional systems. We found that the lattice channel network geometry with the tapered distributors and collectors provides most rapid and uniform fluid displacement with minimum liquid waste. The simulation results could give an important guideline for efficient liquid supply/displacement in emerging functional systems with embedded microfluidic networks.

  • In this paper, the Digital DoorLock by Internet of Things (DDiT) is introduced. In order to implement DDiT, an integrated micro-controller platform, Arduino is used to control an existing digital doorlock and an android type smart phone is adopted as a mobile platform. One of the advantages of DDiT is that it can be added to an existing digital doorlock and a smart phone application is used as a digital key. Owing to the smart phone application, several other types of applications could also be made. Therefore, DDiT could be used effectively and conveniently in ordinary homes as well as in high security applications such as in hotels, institutes, and companies.
