This paper considers Bayes estimations of the small area means under Fay-Herriot model with measurement errors. We provide empirical Bayes predictors of small area means with the corresponding jackknifed mean squared prediction errors. Also we obtain hierarchical Bayes predictors and the corresponding posterior standard deviations using Gibbs sampling. Numerical studies are provided to illustrate our methods and compare their eciencies.

In this paper we deal with the small area estimation for the case that the response variables take binary values. The mixed effects models have been extensively studied for the small area estimation, which treats the spatial effects as random effects. However, when the spatial information of each area is given specifically as coordinates it is popular to use the geographically weighted logistic regression to incorporate the spatial information by assuming that the regression parameters vary spatially across areas. In this paper, relaxing the linearity assumption and propose a geographically weighted kernel logistic regression for estimating small area proportions by using basic principle of kernel machine. Numerical studies have been carried out to compare the performance of proposed method with other methods in estimating small area proportion.

We consider a logistic model with random effects as the superpopulation for estimating the small area pro-portions. The best linear unbiased predictor under linear mired model is popular in small area estimation. We use this type of estimator under logistic mixed motel for the small area proportions, on which the estimation of mean squared error is also discussed. Two kinds of estimation methods, the parametric bootstrap and the linear approximation will be compared through a Monte Carlo study in the respects of the normality assumption on the random effects distribution and also the magnitude of sample sizes on the approximation.

대부분의 통계조사는 전국 및 시도단위와 같은 전체 또는 규모가 큰 지역을 위한 통계작성이 가능하도록 설계되어 있다. 그러나 최근들어 소규모 지역의 신뢰있는 통계결과에 대한 통계 이용자들의 요구가 점점 증가하고 있다. 경제활동인구조사는 전국 및 16개 시도를 위한 실업률을 매월 작성하고 있으나, 시군별 직접추정량은 적은 표본규모 때문에 신뢰도가 낮다. 본 연구에서는 경제활동인구조사에서 제공되는 실업자수에 대한 통계를 시군별로 작성하기 위한 모형을 제시한다. 이를 위해 보조정보로부터 "정보를 빌려오는(borrow strength)" 지역단위모형(Area level model)을 사용하였다. 제안된 모형 기반 추정(Model-based Estimation)은 모형 오차의 정규성 가정을 기반으로 하고 있으며, 평균제곱오차 측면에서 제안된 모형들을 비교하였다.

Sample surveys are usually designed and analyzed to produce estimates for a large area or populations. Therefore, for the small area estimations, sample sizes are often not large enough to give adequate precision. Several small area estimation methods were proposed in recent years concerning with sample sizes. Here, we will compare simple Bayesian approach with Bayesian prediction for small area estimation based on linear regression model. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated through unemployment population data form Economic Active Population(EAP) Survey.

Small area model provides reliable and accurate estimations when the sample size is not sufficient. Our dataset has an inherent nonlinear pattern which signicantly affects our inference. In this case, we could consider semiparametric models such as truncated polynomial basis function and radial basis function. In this paper, we study four Bayesian semiparametric models for small areas to handle this point. Four small area models are based on two kinds of basis function and different knots positions. To evaluate the different estimates, four comparison measurements have been employed as criteria. In these comparison measurements, the truncated polynomial basis function with equal quantile knots has shown the best result. In Bayesian calculation, we use Gibbs sampler to solve the numerical problems.

지역 또는 도메인에 작은 크기의 표본이 배정되어 추정의 정도가 낮을 때 사용하는 통계적 기법인 소지역추정에 관한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 소지역추정에 사용되는 자료는 단위수준자료(unit level data)와 지역수준자료(area level data)로 분류된다. 본 논문에서는 단위수준자료를 이용하여 소지역추정을 실시한 후 얻어진 추정값에 공간통계분석기법을 도입하여 최종적인 소지역추정값을 얻는 이단계 소지역추정법을 제안하였다. 제안된 소지역추정법은 단위수준자료가 갖고 있는 정보와 지역수준자료가 갖고 있는 공간정보를 모두 이용하는 방법으로 추정의 정도를 높일 수 있는 새로운 방법이다. 본 논문에서는 경제활동인구조사 자료를 이용한 모의실험을 통해 이단계 소지역추정법의 우수성을 확인하였다.

Almost all small area estimations are obtained by minimizing the mean squared error. Recently relative error prediction methods have been developed and adapted to small area estimation. Usually the estimators obtained by using relative error prediction is called a shrinkage estimator. Especially when data set consists of large range values, the shrinkage estimator is known as having good statistical properties and an easy interpretation. In this paper we study the shrinkage estimators based on logistic regression type estimators for small area estimation. Some simulation studies are performed and the Economically Active Population Survey data of 2005 is used for comparison.

For the Korean Economically Active Population Survey(EAPS), we consider the composite estimator based on logistic regression model to estimate the unemployment rate for small areas(Si/Gun). Also, small area estimation technique based on hierarchical generalized linear model is proposed to include the random effect which reflect the characteristic of the small areas. The proposed estimation techniques are applied to real domestic data which is from the Korean EAPS of Choongbuk. The MSE of these estimators are estimated by Jackknife method, and the efficiencies of small area estimators are evaluated by the RRMSE. As a result, the composite estimator based on logistic model is much more efficient than others and it turns out that the composite estimator can produce the reliable estimates under the current EAPS system.

지방자체 실시에 따라 우리나라에서도 시. 군. 구 등의 소지역 통계에 대한 요구가 증대되고 있다. 하지만 정부통계 생산을 위한 표본조사의 경우 시(특할시, 직할시) 및 도별 통계생산을 목적으로 하기 때문에 신뢰성 있는 소지역 통계를 산출하는것이 불가능하고, 따라서 이런 소지역 통계생산을 위해 간접추정기법의 도입 및 활용하는 것이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 정부통계 생산을 위한 소지역 통계기법의 도입 및 활용 가능성을 검토해 보기 위해 통계청에서 실시되고 있는 도소매업 및 서비스업 통계조사 중 인천직할시 숙박 및 음식점업의 총매출액에 대한 구별 소지역 통계를 산출할 수 있는 여러가지 간접 추정방법을 제시하고, 아울러 도소매업 총 조사 자료를 이용하여 제시된 간접추정량들의 효율성을 비교 분석해 보고자 한다.
