Studies on the Vertical Distribution of the Corticolous Lichens in the Mt. Sobaeg. (소백산에 있어서 지의류의 수식분포에 관한 연구)

  • The vertical distribution of the corticolous lichens in Mt. Sobaeg was detected by 10cm point quadrat. The dominant species of lichens was arranged in a single dimensional ordination along the elevational gradient with the frequency percentage of the species. Cetraria stracheyi, Parnaria leucosticta, Stieta platyphyll and Parmelia petusa were found in order of abundant from lower, Samgadong(400m) to higher, Birobong(1439m) in which they occurred mainly on the southwest slope. However, such species as Cetraria juniperina was more abundant than Parnaria leucosticta and Stieta platyphylla at the southeast slope. The distribution of Cetraria Stracheyi and Parnaria leucosticta was limited below 1200m height, while Parmelia petusa and Cetraria juniperina mostly above 900m height.

SPECKLE NOISE SMOOTHING USING AN MODIFIED MEAN CURVATURE DIFFUSION FILTER

  • This paper presents a modified mean curvature diffusion filter to smooth speckle noise in images. Mean curvature diffusion filter has already shown good results in reducing noise in images while preserving fine details. In the mean curvature diffusion, the rate of smoothing is controlled by the local value of the diffusion coefficient chosen to be a function of the local image gradient magnitude. In this paper, the diffusion coefficient is modified to be controlled adaptively by local image surface slope and heterogeneity. The local surface slope contributes to preserving details (e.g.edges) in image and the local surface heterogeneity helps the smoothing filter consider the amount of noise in both edge and non-edge area. The proposed filter's performance is demonstrated by quantitative experiments using speckle noised aerial image and TerraSAR-X satellite image.

A Numerical Model of PCGM for Mild Slope Equation (완경사 파랑식에 대한 PCGM 수치모형)

  • A numerical model to solve mild slope equation is developed by use of a preconditioned conjugate gradient method (PCGM). In the present paper. accurate boundary conditions and a better preconditioner are employed which are improved from the existing method of Panchang et al. (1991). Computational procedures are focused on weakly nonlinear waves, and emerged problems to make a more accurate model are discussed. The results of model are tested against laboratory results of both circular and elliptic shoals. Model results of wave amplitude show excellent agreement with laboratory data and thes thus model can be used as a powerful tool to calculate wave transformation in shallow waters with complex bathymetry.

  • In order to make an accurate and fast numerical method based on Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient Method(PCGM), several methods are presented including the exising method such as Bayliss or at. (1983) or Panchang et al. (1991). The results of the methods are compared with the analytical linear solution of plane waves over a constant depth. After advantages and disadvanteges of the methods are discussed. both accuracy and convergence of them are analyzed. The method developed in the paper is proved. by means of tests. to be the best method to solve the mild slope equation numerically.

  • The main purpose of this study was to develop a useful method for analysing slope stability by seepage force. The stability of an embankment impounding a water reservoir is highly depend upon the location of seepage line with the embankment, it is important to illustrate the seepage phenomenon. Of particular interest is the stability following a rapid rise change of reservoir level. Seepage forces in embankments are easily determined if frictional forces are expressed in relation to hydraulic gradient i. Seepage forces can combine with soil weights to improve stability or worsen it, depending on the direction in which the forces act ;n relation to the geometric cross section.

  • The primary purpose of this research is to scientifically investigate visual structure of Korean feng-shui at the level of village settlement. This study deals with Hahoi and Yangdong villages of which feng-shui is regarded highly fit to traditional feng-shui principles. Methodologically this research utilizes analytical tools of geographical information systems and statistical analysis methods, Visual structures of the villages'feng-shui are analyzed in terms of elevation, orientation, gradient of slope and relative dominance of visibility of major hills. A mathematical model is suggested to quantify facets of the villages'lung-shui with reference to slope trends. The quantitative analysis results indicate that both villages have good feng-shui. Hahoi village has an excellent feng-shui attributable to a near perfect harmony between water and terrain while Yangdong village has an effective feng-shui facet for conserving energy in terms of microclimate. Principles of fang-shui have potentials to be developed as a holistic planning and design language. Further in-depth research on feng-shui needed to accomplish this goal.

A Study on Landslide in the Slope of the Forest Road (임도사면(林道斜面)의 붕괴(崩壞)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study was conducted to find out the suitable gradient and length of the slope from the landslide of banking slope and cutting slope caused by rainfall. The survey was carried out on forest road built in 1986. And the period of survey was from June, 1989 to August, 1989 after dividing the forest road into A and B. The survey plots consisted of the 12 banking slopes and 6 cutting slopes. The results obtained from the study were summarized as follows; 1. The rate of landslide appeared 75% in A forest road, 50% in B forest road, and then the average 67% in A and B forest road. But the value of landslide showed considerably low. 2. Because of landslide chiefly occuring on banking slope of $36^{\circ}{\sim}38^{\circ}$ and on cutting slope of $42^{\circ}{\sim}43^{\circ}$, it is suitable to decide the banking slope and cutting slope below each $36^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$. 3. Landslide was the same on banking slopes through the length of slope. The best suitable length of slope is below 4m in cutting slope.

Community Classification and Vegetation Pattern of Quercus mongolica Forest in Mt. Myongji (명지산 신갈나무림의 군락분류와 식생패턴)

  • The Quercus mongolica forest vegetation of Mt. Myongji was classified into two communities including four subunit communities and one typical subunit community by the Z-M method as follows: Acer pseudo-sieboldianum-Quercus mongolica community group Quercus mongolica - Isodon excisus community Quercus mongolica - Styrax obassia community Quercus mongolica - Lespedeza bicolor subunit coummunity Quercus mongolica - Aconitum longecassidatum subunit community Quercus mongolica - Rhododendrom schlippenbachii subunit community Quercus mongolica - Cornus controversa subunit community Quercus mongolica - Styrax obassia typical subunit community Acer pseudo-sieboldianum - Quercus mongolica community group was distributed over the upper region of the altitude 400m, and the differential species in the community were Carex siderosticata, Sephanandra incisa, Tripterygium regelii, and Fraxinus rhynchophylla. The vegetation patterns for the slope and azimuth showed that the highest importance value for Quercus mongolica forest was observed on the broad subxeric area, and for Carpinus cordata and Acer pseudo-sieboldianum on the wet site, for Acer mono, Styrax obassia, Fraxinus rhynchophylla and Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa on the xeric site. The best habitat condition for Quercus mongolica was found at a subxeric site at the altitude of 700-900m on southern slope and that for Acer pseudo-sieboldianum at the 700-1100m on northern slope.

  • The study area. Boeun-eup Boeun-kun, belongs to Ogchon metamorphic belt which is highly metamorphosed and consisted of complex geologic formations. Even though the geological structures and formations are complex and metamorphosed, the geological investigation and consideration are not enough and consequently the plane failure is occurred in the rock slope which was under construction on 1 : 0.5 gradient. This area is assessed as unstable and additional failure is possible by the discontinuity with same direction of failure surface. Therefore, the authors evaluate the slope stability using various analysis methods such as SMR, stereographic projection method, and the limit equilibrium analysis. In order to analyze stress redistribution and nonlinear displacement behavior caused by stress release, the authors conduct numerical analysis with UDEC and then the behavior of rock mass is analyzed after reinforcements are applied.

Studies on Development of Prediction Model of Landslide Hazard and Its Utilization (산지사면(山地斜面)의 붕괴위험도(崩壞危險度) 예측(豫測)모델의 개발(開發) 및 실용화(實用化) 방안(方案))

  • In order to get fundamental information for prediction of landslide hazard, both forest and site factors affecting slope stability were investigated in many areas of active landslides. Twelve descriptors were identified and quantified to develop the prediction model by multivariate statistical analysis. The main results obtained could be summarized as follows : The main factors influencing a large scale of landslide were shown in order of precipitation, age group of forest trees, altitude, soil texture, slope gradient, position of slope, vegetation, stream order, vertical slope, bed rock, soil depth and aspect. According to partial correlation coefficient, it was shown in order of age group of forest trees, precipitation, soil texture, bed rock, slope gradient, position of slope, altitude, vertical slope, stream order, vegetation, soil depth and aspect. The main factors influencing a landslide occurrence were shown in order of age group of forest trees, altitude, soil texture, slope gradient, precipitation, vertical slope, stream order, bed rock and soil depth. Two prediction models were developed by magnitude and frequency of landslide. Particularly, a prediction method by magnitude of landslide was changed the score for the convenience of use. If the total store of the various factors mark over 9.1636, it is evaluated as a very dangerous area. The mean score of landslide and non-landslide group was 0.1977 and -0.1977, and variance was 0.1100 and 0.1250, respectively. The boundary value between the two groups related to slope stability was -0.02, and its predicted rate of discrimination was 73%. In the score range of the degree of landslide hazard based on the boundary value of discrimination, class A was 0.3132 over, class B was 0.3132 to -0.1050, class C was -0.1050 to -0.4196, class D was -0.4195 below. The rank of landslide hazard could be divided into classes A, B, C and D by the boundary value. In the number of slope, class A was 68, class B was 115, class C was 65, and class D was 52. The rate of landslide occurrence in class A and class B was shown at the hige prediction of 83%. Therefore, dangerous areas selected by the prediction method of landslide could be mapped for land-use planning and criterion of disaster district. And also, it could be applied to an administration index for disaster prevention.
