  • This study intended to analyze pre-service elementary teachers' perceptions of teacher knowledge based on the Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. Seventy-four pre-service elementary teachers who were enrolled at an University of Education located in mid-continent of Korea participated in a survey. Results of the survey was analyzed using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) method. It was found that perception of importance was significantly higher than that of performance at all seven domains of the TPACK. IPA matrix extracted from the survey indicates that Technological Content Knowledge (TCK), Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), and TPACK which are related to technology especially need to develop. Results of this study also show the necessity to support pre-service teachers so that they can have opportunities to develop and use technology-related knowledge and skills. This study especially implies that technological knowledge needs to be integrated with content and pedagogical knowledge when implementing curriculum and educational programs for pre-servie elementary teachers.

  • In this paper, we analyzed curriculum materials on inequalities as regions. Constructs such as mathematical connections and curriculum articulation were used as a framework. As for articulation, our findings indicate the topic of inequalities as regions addresses meaningful subordinate mathematical thinking and skills that serve prerequisite to calculus. Regarding connections, mathematical concepts involving inequalities extend to multivariate calculus. One implication is, as an unintended consequence of curricular decision of 2015 Revised National Curriculum to teach the topic only in mathematical economics, students who plan to study STEM subjects in college but opt out of mathematics economics in high school may miss the key concept and naturally struggle to understand calculus especially the theory of multivariate function of calculus.

  • The educational method of physical computing, where students can experience software programming principles and practices while making concrete objects beyond outputs residing just inside of computer monitors, are drawing attentions. This current research sought an instructional method for pre-service teachers that they can experience 3D printing and modeling and at the same time they can understand programming principles in the 3D modeling processes. To achieve this aim, the TinkerCAD $Codeblocks^{(R)}$ was analyzed based on the computational thinking framework and a course utilizing the $Codeblocks^{(R)}$ to 3D modeling was devised. The designed class was applied to pre-service teachers and the students' perceptions of the class were collected by using a semi-structured survey. This study provides implications to software education for pre-service teachers as an instructional case that 3D printing is used to connecting computational thinking skills.

  • The Generation Z (Gen-Z) consumer has a unique beauty-consuming behavior that is distinct from the previous generations. This study aims to identify the meaning of makeup rituals based on the theoretical framework of the ritual concept. In-depth interviews were conducted with fifteen females in their mid-teens to early 20s. The results showed that Gen-Z has different types of makeup ritual scripts for both ordinary days and special days, which are constantly being re-written and revised based on the experience accumulated. In addition, there are various types of ritual artifacts that play an important role in Gen-Z's makeup ritual, and that they provide psychological comfort and satisfaction. The importance of DIY (Do It Yourself), collecting, and independent brands is emphasized. The role of Gen-Z in the makeup ritual was expanding from a creator for her own ritual to a collaborator for peers' rituals, and sometimes the expansion goes beyond the direct relationships to virtual ones through SNS (Social Network Service). The Gen-Z cohort is found to be a member of beauty knowledge network through which they learn, share, and create the know-how and shopping skills.

  • This study analyzed how characteristics of process-focused assessment are implemented in the distributed process-focused assessment examples in elementary school science education. To this end, through a review of previous studies, the analysis perspectives on the characteristics of the process-focused assessment were extracted into six categories. Using the analysis framework, it was described how process-focused assessment examples in elementary school science education developed by metropolitan office of education reflected the characteristics of process-focused assessment. As a result of the study, the characteristics of process-focused assessment were often formally reflected in sample materials. For example, there was a lack of skills on how to effectively integrate instruction and evaluation in practical terms. In many cases, feedback simply induced a recall of a learned concept or simply guides a related scientific concept. In some cases, the characteristics of process-focused assessment did not appear prominently in the sample materials. Also the developed sample materials were divided into the same type as the existing science and performance assessment questionnaire, a narrative·essay type, and a type similar to experimental workbook.

  • Purpose - This study explores the contextual factors that affect the relationship between CEO overseas experience and firm internationalization. This study incorporates a wide range of contextual factors, including mega, macro, and micro variables. In particular, this study goes a step further from prior studies by incorporating a higher-order variable i.e., the global financial crisis that can constrain the managerial discretion of a CEO. Design/methodology - To structure the balanced data set before and after the 2008 global financial crisis, we used the data for the years from 2002 to 2014 from a sample of Korean manufacturing firms. Ultimately, 1101 firm-year unbalanced panel observations from 101 firms were used for the analysis. Findings - Our main findings can be summarized as follows. CEO overseas experience is positively related to firm internationalization. However, this relationship varies depending on the CEOs level of managerial discretion. As for the constraining moderation, the global financial crisis weakened the positive relationship between CEO overseas experience and firm internationalization. As for the enabling moderation, the CEOs tenure strengthened the relationship. Originality/value - This study adopted the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) framework to explain the relationship between CEO overseas experience and firm internationalization. Moreover, we argue that the CEO-internationalization relationship depends on the specific context of the managerial discretion, focusing on the 2008 global financial crisis. Empirically, this study adopted the 2SLS procedure to correct endogeneity. Instead of taking the actual value of prior internationalization as a control, we estimated prior internationalization using the instrument variables at an industry level. This procedure made our estimation more robust.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore, using topic modeling, the social value of doctors and medicine demanded by society as reflected in published newspaper articles in Korea. Ultimately, this study aimed to reflect social needs in the process of developing the Patient-Centered Doctor's Competency Framework in Korea. For this purpose, a total of 2,068 newspaper articles published from 2016 to 2020 were analyzed. Through topic modeling of these newspaper articles over the past 5 years, 18 topics were derived and divided into four categories. Focusing on the derived topics and keywords, the topics derived in specific years and the proportion of topics by year were analyzed. The results of this study make it possible to grasp the needs of society projected through the press for doctors and medicine. Due to the nature of the press, topics that frequently appeared in newspaper articles were mainly social phenomena related to requirements for doctors, particularly dealing with economic and legal aspects. In particular, it was confirmed that doctors are now required to have a wider range of competencies that go beyond their required medical knowledge and clinical skills. This study helped to establish doctor's competencies by analyzing social needs for doctors through the latest research methods, and the findings could help to establish and improve doctor's competencies through ongoing research in the future.
