  • The ultimate objectives of the six sigma activities are to raise quality of products to the level where customers can be satisfied and to improve marketing efficiency through cost reduction. Recently, many businesses have been struggling to find out the most successful way to implement the six sigma to produce better results. This study is significant in a way that it provides readers with an actual evidence of efficiency and effectiveness of six sigma activities in marketing performance for the first time. The major data of this study can be divided into two categories ; First, secondary data research method was utilized to find out the effects of six sigma management on the quality and marketing performances, theoretically and empirically. Second, test of established hypotheses relevant to the effects of six sigma management on the quality and marketing performance based on the propositions drawn from existing literatures, and test hypotheses statistically. This study of six sigma looked into benefits in manufacturing industry in terms of improving quality, cutting cost and decreasing defection product-defect rate. In addition, the study has verified that how the quality performances can affect the marketing performances, such as enhancing corporate image, sales increase and customer satisfaction. The author believes that this study will help many businesses acquire best methods to increase sales and profits. And, business manager will be able to understand where to focus as they proceed with the six sigma project and improve corporate competitiveness.

  • Six sigma has been the most influential management innovation program since 1996 in Korea. As a result of successful implementation of 6 sigma, there have been a number of dramatic quality improvement cases. However, no empirical study of 6 sigma implementation study has done especially in the service industry of Korea. This article reviews status of finance companies which implemented 6 sigma programs in Korea and then demonstrates the relationship between 6 sigma problem solving tools such as analysis of variance and graph techniques, etc and project success and operational performance. Customer survey tools, process analysis, and documentation tool are identified as influential tools on project success. Tools of measure steps, customer survey tools, and documentation tool are found as influential tools on operational performance.

  • Prior to Six Sigma, many companies had adopted a policy management method designed to manage business performances through the top-down deployment of management policies. This policy management method and the Six Sigma CTQ Flow Down will make a good combination when their merits are developed and systemized as the management innovation program which enables to set up innovation targets along with management targets in the stage of strategic planning and to participate all the personnel from top management down in achieving th targets. This paper will help the companies implementing Six Sigma improve their management constitutions and achieve better management performances through the integration of policy management and Six Sigma.

  • This paper considers a six sigma project for improving the TIP life time in a spot welding process. The project follows a disciplined process of five phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. A process map is used to identify process input and output variables. Nine key process input variables are selected by using C&E matrix and FMEA, and finally four vital few input variables are selected from analyze phase. The optimum process conditions of the vital few input variables are jointly obtained by maximizing TIP life time using DOE and alternative selection method.

  • This paper considers a six sigma project for improving productivity of the brace complement center pillar. The project follows a disciplined process of fife phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. A process map is used to identify process input and output variables. Eleven key process input variables are selected by using X&Y matrix and FMEA, and finally eight vital few input variables are selected from analyze phase. The optimum process conditions of the vital few input variables are jointly obtained by maximizing productivity of the brace complement center pillar using DOE and alternative selection method.

  • This research has seven factors such as top management leadership, belt system operation, implementation of systematic methods, adequate project performance measurement, customer focus performance, quality performance and business performance. Those are critical to correct implementation of Six Sigma. I set seven hypotheses which represented the relationships among the seven factors, gathered questionnaires and analyzed the data. Top management leadership affected positively the adequate project performance measurement and the belt system operation, The belt system operation affected the implementation of systematic methods positively and it also affected the adequate project performance measurement. It affected positively the customer focus performance, the quality performance and the business performance, respectively.

  • As the competition between companies are deepened, the number of companies adopting six sigma principles, which is one of the innovative management strategies, are increasing. According to this trend, the changes in both strategies and methodologies of six sigma are continuous. However, the evaluations and the management principles included in the process after the six sigma applications are insufficient, and the cooperation between the parties in the company is also not enough because the application process of six sigma is too complex and not efficient. In order to solve this problem, a research for developing the methodology which can learn about and do six sigma applications is so necessary, specifically for expanding the six sigma applications and introducing the participation of all company members. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to develop and present more efficient Six Sigma applied process by reducing the existing unnecessary steps in improvement one, by applying the examination method of wasteful elements on the potential factors, through analyzing the Six Sigma DMAIC applied case in the construction industry. The result of those application showed that the detection of potential factors using wasting elements was possible in measurement step and that it was possible for the improved process with reduced steps compared to existing process while to remain the outcomes. It is considered that the performance rate of Six Sigma project will be improved significantly because the reduction in the improvement step does not affect the improvement effect within the whole Six Sigma project.

  • The TOC/DBR and Six Sigma are the most attention-getting concepts for managing manufacturing companies in Korea. Using the ideas and methods of the TOC/DBR, companies can achieve a large reduction of work-in-process and finished-good inventories, significant improvement in scheduling performance, and substantial earnings increase. The Six Sigma approach derives the overall process of selecting the right projects based on their potential to improve performance metrics and selecting/training the right people to get the business results. These two concepts have different backgrounds and different viewpoints for production systems. So, if the two concepts collaborate each other, the synergy effects to innovate production systems can be expected. This paper proposes a new approach to implement the TOC/DBR concepts in production systems. This approach uses some concepts of Six Sigma which stresses educations, project approaches (step by step procedure using a Roadmap), and improvement philosophy.

  • For successful accomplishment of six sigma innovation, one of the most important factor is performance evaluation and proper compensation. Six sigma project teams are well motivated to perform the projects only when their activities are properly evaluated and reasonable compensations are secured. In this paper, a systematic evaluation system of financial effect of six sigma projects is presented for order-based aerospace industry.

  • This paper presents a six sigma application case study for an automobile steering wheel manufacturing process using rolled throughput yield improvement activity. Hidden factory and first pass yield concept is introduced and a DMAIC procedure is implemented to maximize the first pass yield. The result of the six sigma project amounts to the reduction of failure cost of 1.2 billion won per year in the steering wheel manufacturing process. This paper can benefit six sigma practitioners in some ways.
