OSSB 변조의 비선형성을 고려한 OFDM MMoF 시스템의 성능 (Performance of OFDM MMoF System considering Nonlinearity of OSSB Modulation)

  • Millimeter over Fiber (MMoF) 기법은 저손실로 장거리에 신호를 전송하기 위하여 밀리미터 대역의 신호를 광학적으로 변조하여 광섬유에 실어서 전송하는 기법이다. 이때 광학적 변조 기법으로는 색 분산(chromatic dispersion)이 적고 대역폭 효율이 뛰어난 광학적 단측파대 변조 (Optical Single sideband; OSSB) 방식이 주로 사용된다. OSSB를 사용하는 MMoF 시스템의 광학 연결부는 비선형 증폭기로 취급될 수 있으며, 그것의 AM/AM 특성 함수는 제 1차 제 1종 베셀 함수이다. 본 논문에서는 이를 고려한 OFDM MMoF 시스템의 성능을 알아보았다. 우리는 OFDM MMoF 시스템의 비선형 왜곡 잡음 전력을 추정하여 이론적인 비트 오율(Bit Error Rate; BER)을 분석하였으며, 모의실험을 통해 이를 검증하였다.

Quadrature VCO as a Subharmonic Mixer

  • This paper proposes two types of subharmonic RF receiver front-end (called LMV) where, in a single stage, quadrature voltage-controlled oscillator (QVCO) is stacked on top of a low noise amplifier. Since the QVCO itself plays the role of the single-balanced subharmonic mixer with the dc current reuse technique by stacking, the proposed topology can remove the RF mixer component in the RF front-end and thus reduce the chip size and the power consumption. Another advantage of the proposed topologies is that many challenges of the direct conversion receiver can be easily evaded with the subharmonic mixing in the QVCO itself. The intermediate frequency signal can be directly extracted at the center taps of the two inductors of the QVCO. Using a 65 nm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, the proposed subharmonic RF front-ends are designed. Oscillating at around 2.4 GHz band, the proposed subharmonic LMVs are compared in terms of phase noise, voltage conversion gain and double sideband noise figure. The subharmonic LMVs consume about 330 ㎼ dc power from a 1-V supply.

도파관 하이브리드 커플러를 이용한 X-대역 모노펄스 레이더용 이미지 제거 SSB 변조기 설계 (Design of Image Rejection SSB Modulator for X-Band Monopulse RADAR using Waveguide Hybrid Coupler)

  • 본 논문에서는 도파관 하이브리드 커플러를 이용한 X-대역 모노펄스 레이더용 이미지 제거 SSB 변조기 설계에 대해 연구하였다. 일반적으로 SSB 변조기는 입력되는 IF(RF)신호와 LO 신호를 혼합하여 특정한 RF(IF) 주파수 대역으로 변환한다. 이 경우 SSB 변조기는 RF 대역에서 한쪽 측파대를 전송하기 위해, 이미지 신호와 LO 신호의 제거가 요구된다. LO 신호와 IF 신호를 혼합하기 위해, 도파관 하이브리드 커플러와 크리스탈 믹서 다이오드를 이용하여 평형믹서를 설계하였으며, 두 크리스탈 믹서 다이오드 입력에 적합한 $90^{\circ}$ 위상차를 갖는 IF(+)와 IF(-)신호 생성을 위한 IF 증폭기를 설계하였다. 설계된 각각의 도파관과 IF 증폭기 케이스는 고주파수 대역에서 높은 전기적 신뢰성을 유지하기 위해 딥 브레이징 기술을 이용하여 알루미늄으로 제작하였으며 제작된 SSB 변조기 측정결과 LO 신호와 측파대 신호 제거비는 각각 14.2dB와 18.5dB의 양호한 결과를 얻었다.

Tunable Low Phase-noise Microwave Generation Utilizing an Optoelectronic Oscillator and a Fiber Bragg Grating

  • A tunable low-phase-noise microwave generation structure that utilizes an optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated in this article. This structure has no particular requirement for the band width of the laser, and its tunability is realized through adjusting the central frequency of the tunable FBG. A detailed theoretical analysis is established and confirmed via an experiment. A high-purity microwave signal with a frequency tunable from 6 to 12 GHz is generated. The single-sideband phase noise of the generated signal at 10.2 GHz is -117.2 dBc/Hz, at a frequency offset of 10 kHz.

A Novel High Speed Frequency Sweeping Signal Generator in X-band Based on Tunable Optoelectronic Oscillator

  • A novel X-band high speed frequency sweep signal generator based on a tunable optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) incorporating a frequency-swept laser is presented and the theoretical fundamentals of the design are explained. A prototype of the generator with tuning range from 8.8552 GHz to 10.3992 GHz and a fine step about 8 MHz is achieved. The generated radiofrequency signal with a single sideband (SSB) phase noise lower than -100 dBc/Hz@10KHz is experimentally demonstrated within the whole tunable range, without any narrow RF band-pass filters in the loop. And the tuning speed of the frequency sweep signal generator can reach to over 1 GHz/s benefiting from applying a novel dispersion compensation modular instead of several tens of kilometers of optical fiber delay line in the system.

A Flexible and Tunable Microwave Photonic Filter Based on Adjustable Optical Frequency Comb Source

  • A flexible and tunable microwave photonic filter based on adjustable optical frequency comb source is demonstrated. We use a combination of a dual parallel Mach Zehnder modulator and an intensity modulator to generate fifteen comb lines with proper weights to implement a desired filter. The optical comb weights, corresponding to the tap coefficients of the filter, are flexibly changed by adjusting the operation parameters of the modulators. The achieved bandwidth and stopband attenuation of the tunable filter are 0.7 GHz and 20 dB, respectively. In addition, we overcome the undesired low frequency suppression appeared in a conventional scheme by applying a dual parallel Mach Zehnder modulator for single sideband suppressed carrier modulation.

  • The modulation quality of the I/Q modulator in a wireless transmitter usually affects system performance and it mostly depends on both a nonlinearity and a distortion, from the third order intermodulation(IM3) signal and the imperfection features such as an input amplitude error and a local phase error, respectively. This paper focused on how much the Single Sideband Ratio(SSR), which indicates the signal distortion, changes according to the variation of the imperfection features. Since a desired signal, side band and IM3 signals at the I/Q modulator output are also represented with those power series coefficients and the imperfection features, the effects of the imperfection features on SSR can be clearly analyzed.

The Suppressing of MR Image Artifacts using Phases Cycling in Fast SE Sequence

  • The correction of image artifacts due to misadjustment in tuning of RF coils (tip angle) and in the RF single sideband spectrometer was investigated using phase cycling of the $\pi$/2 and $\pi$ pulses in spin-echo sequences. A general procedure was developed for the systematic design of phase cycles that select desirable coherence transfer pathways. To analyze a phase cycling sequence, changes in the coherence level and phase factor for each RF pulse in the spin-echo cycle must be determined. Four different phase cycling schemes (FIXED, ALTERNATE, FORWARD, REVERSED) to suppress unwanted signal components such as mirror and ghost images were evaluated using two signal acquisitions. When the receiver phase factor is cycled counter-clockwise (REVERSED), these artifacts are completely removed.

  • This paper characterizes the electromechanical parameters due to the fault of rotor bars in a squirrel cage induction motor. Simulation is performed to investigate how broken rotor bars have effect on them by solving the time-stepping finite element equation coupled with magnetic field equation, circuit equation and mechanical equation of motion. It shows that the asymmetry of magnetic flux due to the broken rotor bar introduces the beating phenomenon in time domain and the sideband frequencies in frequency spectra, respectively, to the stator current, torque, speed, magnetic force and vibration of a rotor. However, vibration of a rotor would be the most effective monitoring parameters to detect the faults of rotor bars.

Reducing speckle artifacts in digital holography through programmable filtration

  • We propose a speckle reduction technique in electronic holographic display systems, where digital micro-mirror array devices are used as spatial light modulators. By adopting a programmable filtration in a general 4-f optic configuration, it is shown that the signal spectrum components in the frequency domain of a viewing-window-based holographic display system can be selectively filtered. Compared to the widely utilized single-sideband filtration techniques in electronic holographic display systems, our proposed programmable filtration can be utilized to effectively reduce the speckles in the reconstruction of point-cloud-based computer-generated holograms. Experimental results are presented to verify our proposed concept.
