  • This paper describes a CMOS digital-to-analog converter to apply a newly-developed digital-to-analog conversion algorithm. The CMOS digital-to-analog converter has been designed by using 1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ MOSIS SCMOS parameter and simulated for the performance. The simulated results have shown that the digital-to-analog converter has 200MHz of the maximum conversion rate, 7.41mW of the DC power consumption, and ${\pm}$0.08LSB of INL and ${\pm}$0.098LSB of DNL in 8-b.

  • This paper discusses on application of meta-heuristic algorithms such as the genetic algorithm (GA) and the simulated annealing (SA) to the LSI module placement. We propose useful crossover method for improving of searching capability in genetic algorithm. By using our proposed crossover method, we have been able to keep good schemata in the chromosome and the variety of the solution. From the experimental results, we have obtained better result than the simulated annealing method by starting from the initial placement of the min-cut method.

  • We already fabricated a proto-type HTS charging system with photovoltaic (PV) system and obtained design parameters for DC converter and HTS charging system. In order to develop the real scale charging system efficiently, we suggested a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller using a perturb and observe (P&O) MPPT algorithm for PV system. In this paper, we designed and simulated the MPPT controller for the real scale HTS charging system. As well as, the PV module has been analyzed by solving solar cell equivalent equations. The simulated and theoretical results presented here are being considered the next study which addresses the design and fabrication parameters.

  • The existing methods to split overall gear ratio of the cylindrical multi-stage gear train have their own limitations to be used in practical design and are also problematic to be implemented in a formalized algerian. This paper proposes two types of new methods to find gear ratios best approximating the overall gear ratio. The proposed methods are quite general to be applied to the gear train having any number of stages, and offer a considerably good result in a very short time. The first method uses the random search method and the second one is based on the simulated annealing algorithm. The proposed algorithms are expected to be very useful not only as an independent program to split overall gear ratio, but also as a desist sub-module for the integrated desist system of multi-stage gear drives.

  • In competitive electricity markets, maintenance schedule is submitted by generation companies (GENCOs) and transmission companies (TRANSCOs), and coordinated by Independent System Operator (ISO) with the adequacy criterion. This paper presents an alternative coordination procedure by ISO on the maintenance schedule. In this paper, it is focused on modeling a coordination algorithm by ISO for the maintenance schedule based on the Simulated Annealing algorithm. The proposed model employs the minimum information such as generator capacity, forced outage rate and generator maintenance schedules. The objective function of this model represents minimization of adjustment on schedules submitted by GENCOs.

  • This paper proposes two kinds of heuristic algorithms for Rural Postman Problems(RPPs). One is a Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm for RPPs. In SA, we propose a new cooling schedule which affects the performance of SA. The other is a Genetic Algorithm(GA) for RPPs. In GA, we propose a chromosome structure for RPPs which are edge-oriented problems. In simulations, we compared the proposed methods with the existing methods and the results show that the proposed methods produced better results than the existing methods.

Constructing relationships in a hierarchical file system

  • We propose a scheme for more efficient navigation in a hierarchical file system. In the proposed scheme, a program running in the background computes the degree of relationship between a current file and others, and builds a list of the most related files. The current relationship metric being used by the program is a linear combination of five parameters: the name, the directory path, the type, the created time, and the last accessed time of a file. A simulated annealing algorithm is used in order to determine the weighting factors of the parameters. A set of experiments were conducted in order to access the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • Variable selection algorithm for Sliced Inverse Regression using penalty function is proposed. We noted SIR models can be expressed as generalized eigenvalue decompositions and incorporated penalty functions on them. We found from small simulation that the HARD penalty function seems to be the best in preserving original directions compared with other well-known penalty functions. Also it turned out to be effective in forcing coefficient estimates zero for irrelevant predictors in regression analysis. Results from illustrative examples of simulated and real data sets will be provided.

  • This paper deals with a simulation method of faults in a power transformer. Using the [R],[L] matrix supplied by the auxiliary routine of EMTP called BCTRAN, the turn to ground fault and turn to turn fault are simulated and the inrush condition is simulated using saturable transformer model. Data from simulations can be used to identify the response of the digital protection algorithms for transformer.
