  • The objective of this work is to study the effects of the modification of material properties on the vibration of the FGM beam using an integral shear strain model. In the present theory, the rotational displacement is replaced by an integral term in the displacement fields. The use of a shear correction factor is not necessary because our model gives a parabolic description of shear stress through the thickness while satisfying the conditions of zero shear stresses on the bottom and top surfaces of the beam. The FGM beam is assumed that the beam is a mixture of metal and ceramic, and that its properties change depending on the power functions of the thickness of the beam such as: linear, quadratic, cubic and inverse quadratic. By applying Hamilton's principle, general formulas were obtained to obtain the frequencies of the FGM beam. The effects of changing compositional characteristics of materials presented by volume fraction of FGM beams with simply supported edges on free vibration and some mode shapes are investigated.

  • This Paper develops a new control system to reduce the vibration of bridges using King-post mechanism. The optimal active control theory is used in the control system. The positions of post and roller in the King-post mechanism are important factors, since the vibration of bridges is very sensitive to their variations. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed control mechanism, a simply supported beam under moving load is considered.

  • In this paper an asymptotic iteration method is adopted to analyze non-linear free vibration of reticulated circular plates composed of beam members placed in two orthogonal directions. For the resulting linear ordinary differential equations in the process of iteration, the power series with rapid convergence has been applied to obtain an analytical solution for non-linear characteristic relation between the amplitude and frequency of the structure. Numerical examples are given, and the phenomena indicating hardening of such structures have been presented for the (immovable or movable) simply-supported and clamped circular plates.

  • This paper treats the vibration analysis of a simply supported rectangular plate stiffened with viscoelastic beams. The effect of viscoelastic beams on the vibration of the plate is analyzed by using Dirac delta function and the equation of motion can be expressed only one equation. The frequency equation is obtained by applying Laplace transformation. The effect of volumes, numben and aspect ratios of beam on the frequency of the plate is analyzed.

  • The linear dynamic response of a simply supported uniform beam under a moving load of constant magnitude is investigated. When the ratio of the moving weight and the structure weight is small, moving object is considered as a concentrated or distributed moving force, that is large external loading can be considered as a concentrated or distributed moving masses. Result from the numerical solutions of the differential equations of motion are shown graphically. Moreover, when considering the maximum deflection for the mid-span of the hewn, the critical speeds of the moving load have been evaluated.

  • This paper presents a comparison of results obtained by a newly developed numerical model for predicting the behaviour of structures under fire with experimental study carried out on heated and simply supported steel beam elements. A newly developed numerical model consists of three submodels: 3D beam model designed for calculating the inner forces in the structure, 2D model designed for calculation of stress and strain distribution over the cross section, including the section stiffness, and 3D transient nonlinear heat transfer model that is capable of calculating the temperature distribution along the structure, and the distribution over the cross section as well. Predictions of the calculated temperatures and vertical deflections obtained by the numerical model are compared with the results of the inhouse experiment in which steel beam element under load was heated for 90 minutes.

  • Dynamic vibration absorbers are widely used in machinery, buildings, and structures, including bridges. Two cases of their usage are considered in this paper. One is a simply supported beam subjected to either a moving force or a sequence of moving forces, which simulates a train-bridge interaction problem. The other is a case where a primary system is mounted on a base that is not grounded and is excited by an external force. The conditions that the dynamic vibration absorbers must meet in these cases are found and compared to those for usual cases where bases of primary systems are grounded.

  • In this paper, dynamic buckling of the smart subjected to blast load subjected to electric field is studied. The sandwich structure is rested on Pasternak foundation with springs and shear elements. Applying piezoelasticity theory and hyperbolic shear deformation beam theory (HSDBT), the motion equations are derived by energy method. For calculating the dynamic instability region (DIR) of the sandwich structure, differential quadrature method (DQM) along with Bolotin method is used. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of applied voltage, geometrical parameters of structure and boundary conditions on the DIR of the structure. The results show that applying negative voltage, the DIR will be happened at higher excitation frequencies. In addition, the clamped-clamped beam leads to higher excitation frequency with respect to simply supported boundary condition.

  • Although many structures. with high strength concrete have been recently constructed, the flexural behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete beams with high strength concrete is not exactly defined. This paper presents an experimental study on the flexural strength of the high strength concrete beams. Five large scale beams simply supported were tested and measured. Each beam was loaded by two symmetrical concentrated loads applied at 1.25m from the center of span. The concrete strength, the prestressed force and longitudinal tensile reinforcement ratio vary from beam to beam. From the experimental tests, the flexural strength from tests is larger than the nominal flexural strength of codes. Moreover, the initial crack-load is affected by the prestressed force and the crack width and spacing are controlled by the longitudinal tensile reinforcement ratio.
