A Study on Spatial Smoothing Technique for Angle of Arrival Estimation of Coherent Incoming Waves (코히어런트 입사파의 도래방향 추정을 위한 공간평균법의 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The techniques of estimating angle of arrival(AOA) have played a key role for enhancement of wireless communications using array antennas. Among those techniques, the superresolution algorithms, such as MUSIC and ESPRIT, calculate the covariance matrix of the array output vectors which are observed at the array antennas, and then by using eigen-decomposition of the covariance matrix, they estimate AOAs of the received signals with high accuracy. However, superresolution algorithms based eigenvalue decomposition fails to estimate AOAs under multipath environments. Under multipath environments, it is difficult to estimate AOAs of the received signals due to coherency and high-correlation. To resolve coherent signals, the covariance matrix is calculated by using the conventional spatial smoothing technique, and then the techniques based on eigen-descomposition is applied. The result of the conventional spatial smoothing technique, however, is obtained at the cost of losing effective spatial aperture. Moreover, the conventional technique ignores any information in the cross-correlations of the array outputs the subarrays. As the result, the performance for AOA estimation is degraded. In this paper, we propose a new spatial smoothing technique, which consider the cross-correlation for subarrays. By computer simulation, the AOA estimation performance of the proposed method is compared with the conventional method and evaluated.

  • This research have introduced wavelet signal processing technic for improving navigation signals. INS signals can be distorted with conventional pre-filtering method such as low-pass filtering by unwanted smoothing on real signals. But in this paper, wavelet thresholding method is implemented to INS signal to denoise for INS-GPS integrated system. This method reduces signal noise but not distorts the rapid varing signal. And this paper applied thresholding to INS-GPS integrated navigation system and improved navigation performance.

  • This paper presents a speech enhancement method using non-negative matrix factorization. In training phase, we can obtain each basis matrix from speech and specific noise database. After training phase, the noisy signal is separated from the speech and noise estimate using basis matrix in enhancement phase. In order to improve the performance, we model the change of encoding matrix from training phase to enhancement phase using independent Gaussian distribution models, and then use the constraint of the objective function almost same as that of the above Gaussian models. Also, we perform a smoothing operation to the encoding matrix by taking into account previous value. Last, we apply the Log-Spectral Amplitude type algorithm as gain function.

An Improved Speech Absence Probability Estimation based on Environmental Noise Classification (환경잡음분류 기반의 향상된 음성부재확률 추정)

  • In this paper, we propose a improved speech absence probability estimation algorithm by applying environmental noise classification for speech enhancement. The previous speech absence probability required to seek a priori probability of speech absence was derived by applying microphone input signal and the noise signal based on the estimated value of a posteriori SNR threshold. In this paper, the proposed algorithm estimates the speech absence probability using noise classification algorithm which is based on Gaussian mixture model in order to apply the optimal parameter each noise types, unlike the conventional fixed threshold and smoothing parameter. Performance of the proposed enhancement algorithm is evaluated by ITU-T P.862 PESQ (perceptual evaluation of speech quality) and composite measure under various noise environments. It is verified that the proposed algorithm yields better results compared to the conventional speech absence probability estimation algorithm.

  • An intelligent home network system using low-power and low-cost sensor nodes was designed and implemented. In Intelligent Home Network System, active home appliances control is composed of RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) based user indoor location tracking, dynamic multi-hop routing, and learning integration remote-control. Through the remote-control learning, home appliances can be controlled in wireless network environment. User location information for intelligent service is calculated using RSSI based Triangle measurement method, and then the received location information is passed to Smoothing Algorithm to reduce error rate. In order to service Intelligent Home Network, moreover, the sensor node is designed to be held by user. The gathered user data is transmitted through dynamic multi-hop routing to server, and real-time user location & environment information are displayed on monitoring program.

A Method to Reduce the Cross-Talk of Wigner-Ville Distribution;Rotating Window (위그너-빌 분포함수에서의 혼신성분 저감 방법 - 회전 창문함수)

  • Wigner-Ville distribution has been recognized as a useful tool and applied to various types of mechanical noise and vibration signals, but its limitation which mainly comes from the cross-talk has not been well addressed. The cross-talk takes place for a signal with multiple components, simply because the Wigner-Ville distribution is a bilinear transform. The cross-talk often causes a negative value in the distribution. This cannot be accepted for the Wigner- Ville distribution, because it is an expression of power. Smoothing the Wigner-Ville distribution by convoluting it wih a window, is most commonly used to reduce the cross-talk. There can be infinite number of distributions depending on the windows. In this paper, we attempted to develop a distribution which is the best or the optimal in reducing the cross-talk. This could be possible by employing the ambiguity function. For a general signal, however it is difficult to express the ambiguity function as a mathematically closed form. This requires an appropriate modeling to make such expression possible. We approximated the Wigner-Ville distribution as a sum of linear segments. In the ambiguity function domain, the legitimate components are reflected as linear lines passing through the origin. Every lines has its own length and slope. But, the cross-talk is widely distributed in the ambiguity function plane. Based on this realization, we proposed a two-dimensional window which is in fact 'rotating window', that can eliminate cross-talk component. The rotating window is examined numerically and is found to have a better performance in reducing the cross-talk than conventional windows, the Gaussian window.

Smoothed RSSI-Based Distance Estimation Using Deep Neural Network (심층 인공신경망을 활용한 Smoothed RSSI 기반 거리 추정)

  • In this paper, we propose a smoothed received signal strength indicator (RSSI)-based distance estimation using deep neural network (DNN) for accurate distance estimation in an environment where a single receiver is used. The proposed scheme performs a data preprocessing consisting of data splitting, missing value imputation, and smoothing steps to improve distance estimation accuracy, thereby deriving the smoothed RSSI values. The derived smoothed RSSI values are used as input data of the Multi-Input Single-Output (MISO) DNN model, and are finally returned as an estimated distance in the output layer through input layer and hidden layer. To verify the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compared the performance of the proposed scheme with that of the linear regression-based distance estimation scheme. As a result, the proposed scheme showed 29.09% higher distance estimation accuracy than the linear regression-based distance estimation scheme.

Evaluating the ANSS and ATS Values of the Multivariate EWMA Control Charts with Markov Chain Method

  • Average number of samples to signal (ANSS) and average time to signal (ATS) are the most widely used criterion for comparing the efficiencies of the quality control charts. In this study the method of evaluating ANSS and ATS values of the multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts with Markov chain approach was presented when the production process is in control state or out of control state. Through numerical results, it is found that when the number of transient state r is less than 50, the calculated ANSS and ATS values are unstable; and ATS(r) tends to be stabilized when r is greater than 100; in addition, when the properties of multivariate EWMA control chart is evaluated using Markov chain method, the number of transient state r requires bigger values when the smoothing constatnt ${\lambda}$ becomes smaller.

  • 대부분의 영상은 다양한 이유(노이즈, 전송과정 중 발생하는 문제 등)로 인해 항상 좋은 품질을 보여주진 못한다. 이렇게 훼손된 영상의 복원은 다양한 정보를 제공한다. 이런 훼손된 영상을 복원하기 위해 Median filtering과 같은 기존의 처리 방법들은 주변 화소(Pixel)를 평활화(Smoothing) 처리를 하기 때문에 noise 처리에는 좋으나 원 영상의 중요한 에지 성분까지도 평활화 처리를 함으로써 에지 부분의 공간적 이동을 초래할 수 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 image inpainting 방법이 제안되고 있으며, inpainting 기법에는 편미분 방정식(PDE)을 이용한 방법, 텍스쳐 병합 기반의 방법들이 있다. 그러나 이러한 inpainting 기법들은 연산 수행시간이 많이 소요되는 단점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 image inpainting을 수행시 소요되는 연산시간을 줄이는 fast image inpainting 알고리즘을 제안한다.

Pulse Radar Signal Processing Algorithm for Vehicle Detection (차량검지 시스템을 위한 펄스레이더 신호처리 알고리즘)

  • This paper presents a vehicle detecting algorithm using microwave system signals. The Proposed algerian decides the breakpoint of signals using the likelihood criteria. The decided signals are segmented and simplified. The proposed searching algorithm uses the Euclid distance from the weighted signal data. We tested the proposed algorithm to compare with the segmentation which is a method using smoothing and edge detection. We confirm that the proposed algorithm is very useful for detecting vehicles by field test.
