  • This paper describes the design method of Time-to-Digital Converter(TDC) to obtain the constant delay time and good reliability. The reliability property is described with delay elements. In TDC the time signal is converted to digital value which is based on delay elements for the time interpolation. To obtain the constant delay time, the first and the last delay elements have different structure compared to the middle delay elements. In the first and the last delay elements, the driving ability could be controlled for the different delay time. The delay element can be designed by analog and digital devices. The delay time of the element using analog devices is not sensitive to process parameters than that of the element using digital devices. And the TDC circuit by the elements using analog devices shows better reliability than that by the elements using digital devices also.

  • Real-time dynamic substructuring tests have been conducted on a cable-deck system. The cable is representative of a full scale cable for a cable-stayed bridge and it interacts with a deck, numerically modelled as a single-degree-of-freedom system. The purpose of exciting the inclined cable at the bottom is to identify its nonlinear dynamics and to mark the stability boundary of the semi-trivial solution. The latter physically corresponds to the point at which the cable starts to have an out-of-plane response when both input and previous response were in-plane. The numerical and the physical parts of the system interact through a transfer system, which is an actuator, and the input signal generated by the numerical model is assumed to interact instantaneously with the system. However, only an ideal system manifests a perfect correspondence between the desired signal and the applied signal. In fact, the transfer system introduces into the desired input signal a delay, which considerably affects the feedback force that, in turn, is processed to generate a new input. The effectiveness of the control algorithm is measured by using the synchronization technique, while the online adaptive forward prediction algorithm is used to compensate for the delay error, which is present in the performed tests. The response of the cable interacting with the deck has been experimentally observed, both in the presence of delay and when delay is compensated for, and it has been compared with the analytical model. The effects of the interface delay in real-time dynamic substructuring tests conducted on the cable-deck system are extensively discussed.

  • Researches for time delay estimation had been studied broadly. However studies about factors for time delay estimation are insufficient, especially in case of real environment application. In 1997, Brandstein and Siverman announced that performance of time delay estimation deteriorates as reverberant time of room increases. Even though reverberant time of room is same, performance of estimation is different as the specific part of signals. In order to know that reason, we studied and analyzed the factors for time delay estimation using speech signal and room impulse response. In result, we can know that performance of time delay estimation is changed by different R/D ratio and signal characteristics in spite of same reverberant time.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple numerical formula which can estimate the additional delay time due to interconnection branches in general source-termination scheme. We show that interconnection branches have influence on both signal quality and time delay. Using the proposed numerical formula, time delay can be easily predicted by system designers.

  • In this paper, we deals with optimizing traffic signal timing in grid networks by using a network topology design method. Optimizing traffic signal timing includes minimizing delay time delay between departure and destination by interlocking straight traffic signal in the minimum spanning tree(MST). On the assumption that users of network abide by the paths provided in this paper, this paper shows optimizing traffic signal timing in grid networks. the paths provided in this paper is gathered by using Dijkstra algorithm used in computer networks. The results indicate minimizing delay time of passing through the grid network and interlocking traffic signal in the grid network.

  • In this paper, a double loop control model using leaky delay LMS algorithm are proposed for active noise control. The proposed double loop control model estimates the loudspeaker characteristic and the error path transfer function with on-line using only gain and acoustic time delay to reduce computation burden. The control of error signal through double loop control scheme makes the more robust cntrol system. The input signal of filter to estimate acoustic time delay is used difference between input signal of input microphone and adaptive filter output. And also, in nonstationary environments, the leaky delay LMS algorithm is employed to counteract parameter drift of delay LMS algorithm. For practical noise signal, the proposed double loop control model reduces noise level about 12.9 dB.

  • The purposes of this study are twofold ; (1) to investigate the accuracy of estimation power of the individual models. such as those of Highway Capacity Nanual (HCM), Korea Highway Capacity Manual (KHCM), and NationalCooperative Highway Research Program(NCHRP) Report339 ; and (2) to develop an adjusted delay model which can be applied to the signal control system in urban areas. The study is mainly focused on four subjects related to the research purposes, which are as follows ; (1) characteristecs of exsisting delay models ; (2) inherent problems in exsisting delay models : (3) validation of the proposed model by the comparison of observed delay with estimated delay :and (4) a method which can be applied to develop an appropriate delay model for actrual signal control systems by the adjusted fact of the proposed model.

  • In this paper a super-resolution time delay estimation algorithm that estimates the time delays of spread spectrum signals using sparse signal reconstruction approach is introduced. So far, the correlation method has been mostly used to estimate the time delays of spread spectrum signals. However it fails to accurately estimate the time delays in the case where the signals are spaced within approximately 1 PN chip duration and a further processing should be applied to the correlation outputs in order to enhance the resolution capability. Recently sparse signal approaches attract much interest in the area of directions-of-arrival estimation, of which SPICE is the most representative. Thus we introduce a super-resolution time delay estimation algorithm based on the SPICE approach and compare its performance with that of MUSIC algorithm by applying them to the ISO/IEC 24730-2.1 RTLS system.

  • The reflectometry for locating the fault at a cable is the same as a problem estimating the time delay between the incident and the reflected signals. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the time delay between the two signals. The proposed method is based on the modeling of the Gaussian enveloped linear chirp signal in the Gaussian noise environment. The phase and the instantaneous frequency of the received signal are estimated by linear Kalman filtering. From the estimated instantaneous frequency, we can measure the time interval between the center frequencies of the incident and the reflected signals. The time interval is the same as the time delay between the incident and the reflected signals. In a simulation assuming that the cable has open fault at the end of the cable, the proposed method showed a good result in estimating the time delay.

  • The time synchronization of each sub-unit of a pulsed generator is important to generate an output high-power radio frequency (RF) signal. To obtain the time synchronization between an input RF signal fed by an external source and an electron beam produced by an electric pulse generator, the influence of different charging voltages on a delay and a rise time of the output pulse waveform in the electric pulse generator should be carefully considered. This paper aims to study the timing characteristics of the delay and the rise time as a function of different charging voltages with a peak value of less than -35 kV in the high-voltage pulse generator, including a trigger generator (TG) and a pulse-forming line (PFL). The simulation has been carried out to estimate characteristics in the time domain, in addition to their output high-voltage amplitude. Experimental results compared with those obtained by simulation indicate that the delay of the output pulses of the TG and PFL, which are made by controlling the external triggering signal with respect to different charging voltages, is getting longer as the charging voltage is increasing, and their rise times are inversely proportional to the amplitude of the charging voltage.
