Heating method using electric heater was used to reduce water content in fingernail clippings. Authors found that low water content is helpful to measure EPR signal of fingernail sample with enhanced variability. Generally, natural dehydration happens in normal room condition at least one month and needs much time for using in experiment. So, artificial heating method is applied in this study for time savings. Fingernail samples were tested to find effect of water content to the EPR signal on microwave power levels for dosimetry. Low water content in fingernail reduced variability of EPR signal and makes it possible to measure accurate EPR signal. It also made it possible to measure constant movement of EPR signals on several microwave power levels. Although this method was difficult to apply directly in fingernail/EPR dosimetry, we, authors, believe that this heating method would be useful to differentiate MIS2 and RIS which are generally located at the same g-factor and almost impossible to be identified with each other.
Fast Fourier Transform is the fast implementation of Discrete Fourier Transform, which deletes periodic operation of DFT. According to the definition, radix-2 FFT can be implemented byre cursive call which divides the input signal points into 2 signal points. Because of its time-consuming stack-copy operation, this recursive method is very slow. To overcome this drawback, butterfly operation with signal rearrangement was devised. Based on the ideas of signal rearrangement and butterfly operation, this paper applies the signal rearrangement method to the Radix-3 FFT and checks the validity of this method.
When designing a new RNSS signal, the performance analysis for the legacy signal providing the same service, is required to determine the performance requirements. However, there are few studies on the secured service (SS) signal performance analysis, and the waveform is the only published information on the signal design component of the SS signal. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce several figures-of-merit (FoMs) that can be used for performance analysis in terms of the waveform. And then, we calculate the FoMs, such as autocorrelation main peak to secondary peak ratio (AMSR), spectral efficiency, Gabor bandwidth, multipath error, and jamming resistance quality factor, for the existing SS signals and discuss the analysis results. Finally, we conclude that the superior waveform for each FoM is different, and that the consideration of the trade-off relationship between the FoMs is required for waveform design.

This paper proposes a DVS method which effectively reduces the power consumption of multimedia signal processor. Analytic derivations of effective range of its power saving factor are obtained with the assumption of a Gaussian distribution for the frame-based computational burden of the multimedia processor. A closed form equation of the power saving factor is derived in terms of the mean-standard deviation of the distribution. An MPEG-2 video decoder algorithm and AAC encoder algorithm are tested on ARM9 RISC processor for the experimental verification of the power saying of the proposed DVS approach. The experimental results with diverse MPEG-2 video and audio files show 50~30% power saving factor and show good agreement with those of the analytically derived values.
Inflammatory cells express the inflammatory cytokines and growth factors induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Odontoblasts are located at the pulp-dentin interface and extend their cell processes far into the dentin where they are the first cells to encounter microorganisms or their products. Therefore, this study examined the expression of some growth factors related to the signal pathway, such as growth factor receptor binding protein 2 (Grb2)-Ras in odontoblast-like dental pulp cells, after a treatment with LPS. After 60 minutes, the mRNA and protein expression levels of Grb2 and Ras were higher in the LPS-treated cells than in the control cells. The level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) mRNA expression was increased significantly to a level similar to that of Grb2 and Ras at 60 minutes. The platelet-derived growth factor-AA (PDGF-AA) mRNA level was expressed strongly in the odontoblast like dental pulp cells without an association with LPS stimulation. Scanning electron microscopy revealed many extensions of the cytoplasmic processes and the number of processes increased gradually at 30, 60 and 90 minutes after LPS stimulation. From these results VEGF and bFGF expression might be induced through the Grb2-Ras signal transduction pathway in LPS treated odontoblasts.

Human urokinase kringle domain, sharing homology with angiostatin kringles, has been shown to be an inhibitor of angiogenesis, which can be used for the treatment of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and retinopathy. Here, the expression of the kringle domain of urokinase (UK1) as a secreted protein in high levels is reported. UK1 was expressed in the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris GS115 by fusion of the cDNA spanning from Ser47 to Lys135 to the secretion signal sequence of ${\alpha}-factor$ prepro-peptide. In a flask culture, the secreted UK1 reached about 1 g/l level after 120h of methanol induction and was purified to homogeneity by ion-exchange chromatography. Amino-terminal sequencing of the purified UK1 revealed that it was cleaved at the Ste13 signal cleavage site. The molecular mass of UK1 was determined to be 10,297.01 Da. It was also confirmed that the purified UK1 inhibited endothelial cell proliferation stimulated by basic fibroblast growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factor, or epidermal growth factor, in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that a P. pastoris sytem can be employed to obtain large amounts of soluble and active UK1.
Previously, studies on compensation material to increase the signal intensity have been conducted which does not affect the reading of images. However, the compensation material has a concern on patient infection as it is attached directly on the skin. Therefore, in this study, we tested an indirect attachment of the compensation material as an alternative method of the direct attachment. The silicon compensation material was fabricated in the form of a cylindrical bar and attached to each element of the 8 channel head coil. Then the signal intensities of the water phantom pre and post application of the silicon were measured. T1 and T2-weighted images were acquired using an 8-channel head coil and a 3.0T superconducting MRI. Signal intensities were measured by using an image measuring program. Paired t-test was used to verify if there were significant differences. The signal intensity before application of the silicon was significantly increased by 3.39% and 2.62% in T1 and T2 weighted images, respectively. Although the indirect attachment method had a limitation to completely replace the existing method, it was considered to be useful in patients with infectious diseases such as diabetic complications since it had a meaningful improvement in signal intensity based on the filling factor increase.
This paper presents the study on the development of the power factor correction convener with ZVT Boost converter, which is better than the conventional PWM Boost converter to increase the switching frequency for high density and lower stress of switch. A simple DC and small signal model for the power factor correction converter with constant switching frequency is derived. The guide line for design of controller is summarized.
New power factor correction(PFC) technique based on the averaged model of boost converter is proposed. Without measurement of input current, power factor correction scheme derived from the averaged model is presented. With the measurements of input voltage and output voltage, the control signal is generated to make the shape of the line current same as the input voltage. The characteristics of input line current distortion is analyzed by considering the generation of duty cycle.
The purpose of this study is to explore physical factor of digital text structure for designing e-Book interface and to develop prototype of e-Book interface by applied these factors. To address this goal, explore factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were employed, 237 university students were the participated in this study. According to a result, 29 items for physical feature of digital text structure were developed, 9 factors of digital text structure were also extracted; volume, depth, density, space, layout, format, signal, size, and length. Besides, to identify structure of pre-defined 9 factors, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. As a result of CFA, the factor structure was supported by all of model fit indices.
