Noninformative priors for the log-logistic distribution

  • In this paper, we develop the noninformative priors for the scale parameter and the shape parameter in the log-logistic distribution. We developed the first and second order matching priors. It turns out that the second order matching prior matches the alternative coverage probabilities, and is a highest posterior density matching prior. Also we revealed that the derived reference prior is the second order matching prior for both parameters, but Jerffrey's prior is not a second order matching prior. We showed that the proposed reference prior matches the target coverage probabilities in a frequentist sense through simulation study, and an example based on real data is given.

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach for recovering 3-D shape and extracting the reflectance properties of surface from intensity images. Photometric stereo method(PSM) is genrally based on the direct illumination. In this paper, the reflectance function is derived by interoduceing the indirect diffuse illumination in PSM and then applied to hybrid reflectance model which consists of two components; the lambertian and the specular reflectance. Under the hybrid reflectance model and the indirect diffuse illumination circumstance, the reflectance properties of sample surface can be extracting by normal sampler and then 3-D shape of an object can be recovered based on extracting reflectance properties. This method is rapid because of using the reference table and simplifies the restriction condition about the reflectance function existing in prior studies. Th erecovery efficiency in our method is better than that in prior studies. Also, this method is applied to various types of surfaces by defining general reflectance function.

  • A new approach is presented for recovering the 3-D shape from shading image. Photometric Stereo Method (PSM) is generally based on the direct illumination. Default Bayesian one sided testing for the shape parameter in the log-logistic distribution

  • This paper deals with the problem of testing on the shape parameter in the log-logistic distribution. We propose default Bayesian testing procedures for the shape parameter under the reference priors. The reference prior is usually improper which yields a calibration problem that makes the Bayes factor to be defined up to a multiplicative constant. We can solve the this problem by the intrinsic Bayes factor and the fractional Bayes factor. Therefore we propose the default Bayesian testing procedures based on the fractional Bayes factor and the intrinsic Bayes factors under the reference priors. Simulation study and an example are provided.

Noninformative priors for the common scale parameter in Pareto distributions

  • In this paper, we develop the reference priors for the common scale parameter in the nonregular Pareto distributions with unequal shape paramters. We derive the reference priors as noninformative prior and prove the propriety of joint posterior distribution under the general prior including the reference priors. Through the simulation study, we show that the proposed reference priors match the target coverage probabilities in a frequentist sense.

  • The Bayesian model selection procedures for the shape parameter of gamma distribution are proposed in order to test that the failure rate of gamma distribution is constant, increasing or decreasing. The encompassing intrinsic Bayes factor by Beger and Pericchi (1996) based on Jeffreys prior for shape parameter is used to investigate the usefulness of the proposed Bayesian model selection procedures via both real data and pseudo data.

  • The active shape model(ASM) is one of the most popular methods among the shape prior based segmentation methods based on its strong shape constraints using the statistic of shape information which is acquired from the training set. ASM has a few drawbacks, such as, the lack of shape variability, and the sensitivity for false locally searched points. In this paper, we suggest the patch-wise robust ASM to overcome the limitations of the ASM. In addition to the SSM, we introduce the patch-wise SSM, to reduce the shape inflexibility and to search reliable points with the point reliance measurement. The quantitative and qualitative results show the robustmness and the accuracy of the proposed method.

  • The concept of pivot has been widely used in various classical inferences. In this paper, it is proved by use of pivotal quantities that the Bayesian inferences can be arrived at the same results of classical inferences for the location-scale parameters models under the assumption of non-informative prior distributions. Some theorems are proposed in which the posterior distribution and the sampling distribution of a pivotal quantity coincide. The theorems are applied illustratively to some statistical models.

  • We shall derive Bayes estimators for he smaller and larger of two Pareto scale parameters with a common known shape parameter when the order of the scales is unknown and sample sizes are equal under squared error loss function. Also, we shall obtain biases and man squared errors for proposed Bayes estimators, and compare numerically performances for the proposed Bayes estimators.
