  • $SnO_2$-mixed and Sn-doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were synthesized via a hydrothermal process. $SnO_2$-mixed $TiO_2$ nanoparticles prepared in a neutral condition consisted of anatase $TiO_2$ nanoparticles(diamond shape, ~25 nm) and cassiterite $SnO_2$ nanoparticles(spherical shape, ~10 nm). On the other hand, Sn-doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles obtained under a high acidic condition showed a crystalline phase corresponding to rutile $TiO_2$. As the Sn content increased, the particle shape changed from rod-like(d~40 nm, 1~200 nm) to spherical(18 nm) with a decrease in the particle size. The peak shift in the XRD results and a change of the c-axis lattice parameter with the Sn content demonstrate that the $TiO_2$ in the rutile phase was doped with Sn. The photocatalytic activity of the $SnO_2$-mixed $TiO_2$ nanoparticles dramatically increased and then decreased when the $SnO_2$ content exceeded 4%. The increased photocatalytic activity is mainly attributed to the improved charge separation of the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles with the $SnO_2$. In the case of Sn-doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles, the photocatalytic activity increased slightly with the Sn content due most likely to the larger energy bandgap caused by Sn-doping and the decrease in the particle size. The $SnO_2$-mixed $TiO_2$ nanoparticles generally exhibited higher photocatalytic activity than the Sn-doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. This was caused by the phase difference of $TiO_2$.

  • The 486m-long roof of Shenzhen Citizens Centre is one of the world's longest spatial lattice roof structures. A comprehensive numerical study of wind effects on the long-span structure is presented in this paper. The discretizing and synthesizing of random flow generation technique (DSRFG) recently proposed by two of the authors (Huang and Li 2008) was adopted to produce a spatially correlated turbulent inflow field for the simulation study. The distributions and characteristics of wind loads on the roof were numerically evaluated by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods, in which Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes Equations (RANS) Model were employed. The main objective of this study is to explore a useful approach for estimations of wind effects on complex curved roof by CFD techniques. In parallel with the numerical investigation, simultaneous pressure measurements on the entire roof were made in a boundary layer wind tunnel to determine mean, fluctuating and peak pressure coefficient distributions, and spectra, spatial correlation coefficients and probability characteristics of pressure fluctuations. Numerical results were then compared with these experimentally determined data for validating the numerical methods. The comparative study demonstrated that the LES integrated with the DSRFG technique could provide satisfactory prediction of wind effects on the long-span roof with complex shape, especially on separation zones along leading eaves where the worst negative wind-induced pressures commonly occur. The recommended LES and inflow turbulence generation technique as well as associated numerical treatments are useful for structural engineers to assess wind effects on a long-span roof at its design stage.

  • High magnetic field effects on the microstructure and magnetic properties of $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ hexaferrites synthesized hydrothermal method have been investigated. The obtained results indicate that the lattice constant decreases gradually as the magnetic field strength increases, which may be attributed to the lattice distortion resulted from the high magnetic field. Polycrystalline $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ samples prepared under magnetic field strength at zero and 5 T are single phase. It is found that application of external magnetic field during synthesis can induce orientated growth of the hexaferrite crystals along the easy magnetic axis. The magnetic properties can be effectively regulated by an application of high magnetic fields. It is observed that the $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ prepared under a 5 T magnetic field exhibits a higher room-temperature saturation magnetization (66.3 emu/g) than that of the sample (43.6 emu/g) obtained without magnetic field. The results can be explained as the enhanced crystalline, improvement of $Fe^{3+}$ ions occupancy and the oriented growth induced by the external magnetic field. The growing orientation of particles gives rise to increased coercivity due to the enhancement in shape anisotropy. It is expected that an application of magnetic field during the formation of magnetic nanoparticles could be a promising technique to modify magnetic properties with excellent performance.

  • A two-dimensional immiscible water meniscus deformation phenomena on a moving tip in a channel has been investigated by using lattice Boltzmann method involving two-phase model. We studied the behavior of a water meniscus between the tip and a solid surface. The contact angles of the tip and a solid surface considered are in the range from $10^{\circ}$ to $170^{\circ}$. The velocity of the tip used in the study are 0.01, 0.001, and 0.0001. The shapes of tip considered are rectangular and circular. The behavior of water confined between the tip and a solid surface depends on the contact angles of the tip and a solid surface, and the tip velocity. When the tip is moving, we can observe the various behaviors of shear deformation of a water meniscus. As time goes on, the behavior of a water meniscus can be classified into three different patterns which are separated from the tip or adhered to the tip or sticked to a solid surface according to the contact angles and the tip velocity.

  • In this study, using deep learning, super-resolution images of transmission electron microscope (TEM) images were generated for nanomaterial analysis. 1169 paired images with 256 × 256 pixels (high resolution: HR) from TEM measurements and 32 × 32 pixels (low resolution: LR) produced using the python module openCV were trained with deep learning models. The TEM images were related to DyVO4 nanomaterials synthesized by hydrothermal methods. Mean-absolute-error (MAE), peak-signal-to-noise-ratio (PSNR), and structural similarity (SSIM) were used as metrics to evaluate the performance of the models. First, a super-resolution image (SR) was obtained using the traditional interpolation method used in computer vision. In the SR image at low magnification, the shape of the nanomaterial improved. However, the SR images at medium and high magnification failed to show the characteristics of the lattice of the nanomaterials. Second, to obtain a SR image, the deep learning model includes a residual network which reduces the loss of spatial information in the convolutional process of obtaining a feature map. In the process of optimizing the deep learning model, it was confirmed that the performance of the model improved as the number of data increased. In addition, by optimizing the deep learning model using the loss function, including MAE and SSIM at the same time, improved results of the nanomaterial lattice in SR images were achieved at medium and high magnifications. The final proposed deep learning model used four residual blocks to obtain the characteristic map of the low-resolution image, and the super-resolution image was completed using Upsampling2D and the residual block three times.

  • In this paper, we propose a two-dimensional interleaving structure of holographic digital data storage. In this storage, many of the digital binary data are recorded, retrieved and processed in a two-dimensional data image (1000$\times$1000 bits). Therefore, burst errors in this digital device also have two-dimensional characteristics and it is required to use effective two-dimensional interleaving to overcome them. Bits of every code word should be distributed in an equilateral triangular lattice structure when they are scattered considering the random shape and occurrence of burst errors. We deal with factors and algorithm to construct this interleaving structure of equilateral triangular lattice.

  • The thermal distributions near the growth interface of 150mm CZ crystals were measured by three thermocouples installed at the center, middle (half radius) and edge (10m from surface) of the crystals. The results show that larger growth rates produced smaller thermal gradients. This contradicts the widely used heat flux balance equation. Using this fact, it si confirmed in CZ crystals that the type of point defects created is determined by the value of the thermal gradient (G) near the interface during growth, as already reported for FZ crystals. Although depending on the growth systems the effective lengths of the thermal gradient for defect generation are varied, were defined the effective length as 10mm from the interface in this experiment. If the G is roughly smaller than 20C/cm, vacancy rich CZ crystals are produced. If G is larger than 25C/cm, the species of point defects changes dramatically from vacancies to interstitial. The experimental results which FZ and CZ crystals are detached from the melt show that growth interfaces are filled with vacancy. We propose that large G produces shrunk lattice spacing and in order to relax such lattice excess interstitial are necessary. Such interstitial recombine with vacancies which were generated at the growth interface, next occupy interstitial sites and residuals aggregate themselves to make stacking faults and dislocation loops during cooling. The shape of the growth interface is also determined by the distributions of G across the interface. That is, the small G and the large G in the center induce concave and convex interfaces to the melt, respectively.

  • The interference between the lattice bar of existing LB-DECK and the bars placed at site degrades the constructability, which is pointed as a problem. HB-DECK simplified the shape of lattice bar, and converted the direction of main rebar direction to the distributing bar direction, and installed the rib on the underside of HB-DECK to increase the stiffness. The purpose of this study is to verify the structural performance of HB-DECK and cast in place concrete slab. The static load test was conducted to verify the structural performance according to Korean highway bridge design code(2015) and composite behavior of HB-DECK with Cast in Place Concrete Slab. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was carried by MIDAS FEA, and analyzed to compare the result of analysis and experiment. At a result, composite behavior was examined between HB-DECK and cast in place concrete slab, and structural performance satisfied Korean highway bridge design code(2015).

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for estimating media characteristics of sea water and subbottom multi-layers. The proposed algorithm for estimating reflection coefficients, uses a transmitted signal and reflected signal obtained from multiple layers of various shape and structure, and the algorithm is called Schur algorithm. The algorithm is efficient in estimating the reflection coefficients since it finds solution by converting the given inverse scattering problem into matrix factorization. To verify the proposed algorithm, we generate a transmit signal and reflected signal obtained from lattice filter model for sea water and subbottom of multi-level non-homogeneous layers, and then find that the proposed algorithm can estimate reflection coefficients efficiently.

  • Electro-optical sigma-delta modulators are the core module of digital receiver to digitize wideband radio-frequency signals directly at an antenna. Electro-optical sigma-delta modulators use a pulsed laser to oversample an input radio-frequency signals at two Mach-Zehnder Interferometer(MZI) and shape the quantization noise using a fiber-lattice accumulator. Decimation filtering is applied to the quantizer output to construct the input signal with high resolution. The jitter affects greatly on reconstructing the original input signal of modulator. This paper analyzes the performance of first order single bit electro-optical sigma-delta modulator in the time domain and the frequency domain. The performance of modulator is analyzed by using asynchronous spectral averaging of the reconstructed signal's spectrum in the frequency domain. The reference value of time jitter is presented by analyzing the performance of jitter effects. This kind of jitter value can be used as a reference value on the design of modulators.
