갱생 옥내급수관 수돗물에서 비스페놀-A 분포 및 위해성 평가 (Distribution and Risk Assessment of Bisphenol-A in Tap Water from Rehabilitated Indoor Water Service Pipe)

  • 본 연구에서는 에폭시 수지 갱생 옥내급수관 수돗물에 대해 비스페놀-A 실태조사를 실시하였고, 비스페놀-A가 수돗물 음용에 있어 인체에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 위해성 평가를 실시하였다. 원수 중 비스페놀-A는 50~118 ng/L로 채취된 모든 시료에서 정량한계 10 ng/L 이상으로 검출되었다. 이것은 주변지역의 하수 방류수나 지천에 의한 비스페놀-A 유입에 의한 것으로 판단된다. 정수에서의 비스페놀-A는 불검출되었으며, 고도정수처리 공정에서 모두 제거된 것으로 추정되었다. 응집-침전과정과 오존 및 염소에 의해 산화되어 제거되거나 다른 산화 부산물질로 변화한 것으로 판단된다. 옥내급수관 수돗물의 경우, 에폭시 갱생공사를 실시하지 않은 수돗물 모두에서 비스페놀-A는 검출되지 않았다. 그러나 에폭시 갱생공사를 실시한 옥내급수관 수돗물에서 비스페놀-A가 불검출에서 최대 521 ng/L로 범위로 검출되었으며, 채취된 시료의 68%가 정량한계 이상으로 검출되었다. 검출된 비스페놀-A의 최대값(521 ng/L)에 대한 위해도 지수 산정 결과, 위해도 지수(HQ)는 약 0.004로 수돗물 섭취에 의한 위해판단 기준값 0.1 이하로 나타나 음용에 안전한 것을 확인하였다.

  • In this study, to investigate of safety for Benzo(a)pyrene in medicinal herb, 8 kinds of selected commercial herbal medicines (Rehmanniae Radix, Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, Amomi Tsao-Ko Fructus, Cimicifugae Rhizoma, Cyperi Rhizoma, Magnoliae Cortex, Scutellariae Radix, Scrophulariae Radix) were analysed using the high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detector and assessed the health risk. The levels of benzo(a)pyrene were from non-detection to $28.1{\mu}g/kg$, and the average was $3.6{\mu}g/kg$. Based on a nationwide survey of the consumption of medicinal herb by the Korean population, we estimated the potential risk from the ingestion of benzo(a)pyrene. The estimated daily intake of benzo(a)pyrene was 1.6 ng/kg b.w./day for group only know the daily average intake of medicinal herb. The MOE (margin of exposure) of benzo(a)pyrene for estimate of health risk was $1.93{\times}10^5$. Therefore, health risk from benzo(a)pyrene through intake of herbal medicine was considered negligible.

폴리에틸렌계 위생용 용기포장재중의 1-hexen과 1-octene 조사 (Mornitoring of 1-hexene and 1-octene in Hygienic Polyethylene-based Packaging)

  • The levels of migration of 1-hexene and 1-octene residues in PE (polyethylene) products were analyzed by Headspace gaschromatography (HSGC). A total of 21 samples were including lap, polyglove, zipper bag and ect. The samples were eluted with distilled water, 4% acetic acid, 20% ethanol and n-heptan. The limit of detection (LOD) was 0.06 mg/L ~ 0.30 mg/L and limit of quantitation (LOQ) was 0.21 mg/L ~ 1.01 mg/L, respectively. But because of the high volatile, n-heptan elution was not detected 1-hexene and 1-octene standard. 1-hexene and 1-octene were not detected in the sample which eluted with simulant at $60^{\circ}C$, 30min. Microwave for 1 minute also treated sample and direct heated at $100^{\circ}C$ without simulant were not detected.

  • The objective of this study was to analyze sennoside A and rhaponticin simultaneously according to sennoside A of Rhei Rhizoma determination in Korean Pharmacopoeia. $NaHCO_3$ solution in KP was compared with methanol which usually used as solution to extract rhaponticin in Rhei Rhizoma. The method was validated through the guidelines of linearity, LOD, LOQ, specificity and accuracy. Two solution weren't different about validation parameter and passed. So this method were applied to the determination of 6 commercial Rhei Rhizoma samples and 2 samples were suitable for the legal standards.

Phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity of berries produced in South Korea

  • Berries are rich sources of phenolic compounds, which are known to have health-promoting effects. In this study, phenolic compounds of seven popularly consumed berries were analyzed by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS. In addition, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and nitrite scavenging activities were investigated for comparison of the biological activity of the berry extracts. Chlorogenic acid was the major phenolic acid, which had the highest content in aronia, followed by blueberry. The rutin and isoquercetin contents were the highest in mulberry, followed by aronia, black raspberry, and blueberry. The anthocyanin content was the highest in black raspberry. Aronia showed the highest DPPH free radical and nitrite scavenging activities with the highest contents of total phenolics and proanthocyanidins.

Fracture patterns and causes in the craniofacial region: an 8-year review of 2076 patients

  • Background: For proper recovery from craniofacial fracture, it is necessary to establish guidelines based on trends. This study aimed to analyze the patterns and causes of craniofacial fractures. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed patients who underwent surgery for craniofacial fractures between 2010 and 2017 at a single center. Several parameters, including time of injury, region and cause of fracture, alcohol intoxication, time from injury to surgery, hospitalization period, and postoperative complications, were evaluated. Results: This study analyzed 2708 fracture lesions of 2076 patients, among whom males aged 10 to 39 years were the most numerous. The number of patients was significantly higher in the middle of a month. The most common fractures were a nasal bone fracture. The most common causes of fracture were ground accidents and personal assault, which tended to frequently cause more nasal bone fracture than other fractures. Traffic accidents and high falls tended to cause zygomatic arch and maxillary wall fractures more frequently. Postoperative complications-observed in 126 patients-had a significant relationship with the end of a month, mandible or panfacial fracture, and traffic accidents. Conclusions: The present findings on long-term craniofacial fracture trends should be considered by clinicians dealing with fractures and could be useful for policy decisions.

ABT-737 ameliorates docetaxel resistance in triple negative breast cancer cell line

  • Purpose: This study aimed to validate the synergistic effect of ABT-737 on docetaxel using MDA-MB-231, a triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell line overexpressing B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2). Methods: Western blot analysis was performed to assess expression levels of Bcl-2 family proteins and caspase-related molecules. Cell viability was assessed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Cell cycle distribution was determined by flow cytometry analysis. Benzyloxycarbonyl-Val-Ala-Asp(OMe)-fluoromethylketone (z-VAD-fmk) was used for pretreatment to assess the role of caspases. Results: Cell viability of MDA-MB-231 after combination treatment with ABT-737 and docetaxel was significantly lower than that after docetaxel or ABT-737 monotherapy based on MTT assay (both P < 0.001), with a combination index of 0.41. The proportion of sub-G1 population after combination treatment was significantly higher than that after docetaxel or ABT-737 monotherapy (P = 0.001, P = 0.003, respectively). Pretreatment with z-VAD-fmk completely restored cell viability of MDA-MB-231 from apoptotic cell death induced by combination therapy (P = 0.001). Although pro-caspase-8 or Bid did not show significant change in expression level, pro-casepase-9 showed significantly decreased expression after combination treatment. Cleaved caspase-3 showed increased expression while poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase cleavage was induced after combination treatment. However, hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha and aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 totally lost their expression after combination treatment. Conclusion: Combination of ABT-737 with docetaxel elicits synergistic therapeutic effect on MDA-MB-231, a TNBC cell line overexpressing Bcl-2, mainly by activating the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis. Therefore, adjunct of ABT-737 to docetaxel might be a new therapeutic option to overcome docetaxel resistance of TNBCs overexpressing Bcl-2.

서울지역 교육시설 및 공원 놀이터 모래에서 회충의 충란 조사 (Incidence of ascarid eggs in sands of educational facilities and public playground in Seoul)

  • To evaluate the potential risk associated with zoonotic ascarid eggs in educational facilities and public playground in Seoul city, the sand samples collected from April to December in 2011 were examined with a fecal flotation method. Of 5,066 sand samples from 1,367 playgrounds tested, 12 sands from 12 places (0.88%) had ascarid eggs. Sand samples in educational facilities were more contaminated (10/870, 1.15%) with the parasite eggs than those of public playground area (2/497, 0.4%). Fisher's exact tests were used to make pairwise comparisons between which locations were more or less similar with regard to levels of contamination. We didn't find significantly different from one another. Most ascarid eggs detected were found in the Spring. Through this study, we hope to raise awareness of contamination of playgrounds by potentially infectious ascarid ova.

서울지역의 도축 소, 돼지 지육에서의 잔류물질 비교 조사 (Comparison of antibiotic residues on beef and pork carcass in Seoul)

  • This study was carried out to compare the antibiotic residues in the muscles of cattle and pigs from slaughter-houses in Seoul from 2000 to 2002 by EEC-4-plate, Charm II and HPLC methods. The results were summarized as follows; 1. Residual materials were detected from 41 samples(0.6%) by EEC-4-plate method from random sampling and 38 samples(12%) by Charm II method from directed sampling. 2. Violation rates were 0.3% by monitoring and 4.7% by surveillance program. 3. The 35 samples were classified as tetracyclines 30(86%), sulfonamides 4(11%), ${\beta}$-lactams 1(3%) and two samples simultaneously determined oxyteracycline plus sulfadimetoxine, and sulfamerazine plus sulfadimetoxine. 4. The highest residual concentration(ppm) of chlortetracycline, oxytetracyline, sulfamethazine, sufadimetoxine and penicillin were 0.5, 12.0, 6.4, 2.6 and 0.44, respectively.
