Cells of a PV (photovoltaic) module can suffer defects due to various causes resulting in a loss of power output. As a malfunctioning cell has a higher temperature than adjacent normal cells, it can be easily detected with a thermal infrared sensor. A conventional method of PV cell inspection is to use a hand-held infrared sensor for visual inspection. The main disadvantages of this method, when applied to a large-scale PV power plant, are that it is time-consuming and costly. This paper presents an algorithm for automatically detecting defective PV panels using images captured with a thermal imaging camera from an UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle). The proposed algorithm uses statistical analysis of thermal intensity (surface temperature) characteristics of each PV module to verify the mean intensity and standard deviation of each panel as parameters for fault diagnosis. One of the characteristics of thermal infrared imaging is that the larger the distance between sensor and target, the lower the measured temperature of the object. Consequently, a global detection rule using the mean intensity of all panels in the fault detection algorithm is not applicable. Therefore, a local detection rule was applied to automatically detect defective panels using the mean intensity and standard deviation range of each panel by array. The performance of the proposed algorithm was tested on three sample images; this verified a detection accuracy of defective panels of 97% or higher. In addition, as the proposed algorithm can adjust the range of threshold values for judging malfunction at the array level, the local detection rule is considered better suited for highly sensitive fault detection compared to a global detection rule. In this study, we used a panel area extraction method that we previously developed; fault detection accuracy would be improved if panel area extraction from images was more precise. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm contributes to the development of a maintenance and repair system for large-scale PV power plants, in combination with a geo-referencing algorithm for accurate determination of panel locations using sensor-based orientation parameters and photogrammetry from ground control points.

We have developed a compact and cost-effective camera module on the basis of wafer-scale replication technology. A multiple-layered structure of several aspheric lenses in a mobile camera module is first assembled by bonding multiple glass-wafers on which 2-dimensional replica arrays of identical aspheric lenses are UV-embossed, followed by dicing the stacked wafers and packaging them with image sensor chips. We have demonstrated a VGA camera module fabricated by the wafer-scale replication processing with various UV-curable polymers having refractive indices between 1.4 and 1.6, and with three different glass-wafers of which both surfaces are embossed as aspheric lenses having 200 um sag-height and aspheric-coefficients of lens polynomials up to tenth-order. We have found that precise compensation in material shrinkage of the polymer materials is one of the most technical challenges, in order to achieve a higher resolution in wafer-scaled lenses for mobile camera modules.
This paper describes the fabrication of SiCN microstructures for super-high temperature MEMS using photopolymerization of pre-ceramic polymer. In this work, polysilazane liquide as a precursor was deposited on Si wafers by spin coating, microstructured and solidificated by UV lithography, and removed from the substrate. The resulting solid polymer microstructures were cross-linked under HIP process and pyrolyzed to form a ceramic of withstanding over $1400^{\circ}C$. Finally, the fabricated SiCN microstructures were annealed at $1400^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen atmosphere. Mechanical characteristics of the SiCN microstructure with different fabrication process conditions were evaluated. The elastic modules, hardness and tensile strength of the SiC microstructure implemented under optimum process condtions are 94.5 GPa, 10.5 GPa and 11.7 N/min, respectively. Consequently, the SiCN microstructure proposed in this work is very suitable for super-high temperature MEMS application due to very simple fabrication process and the potential possiblity of sophisticated mulitlayer or 3D microstructures as well as its good mechanical properties.
We propose a novel real-time obstacle avoidance method for rescue robots. This method, named the ELA(Emergency Level Around), permits the detection of unknown obstacles and avoids collisions while simultaneously steering the mobile robot toward safe position. In the ELA, we consider two sensor modules, PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) infrared sensors taking charge of obstacle detection in short distance and LMS(Laser Measurement System) in long distance respectively. Hence if a robot recognizes an obstacle ahead by PSD infrared sensors first, and judges impossibility to overcome the obstacle based on driving mode decision process, the order of priority is transferred to LMS which collects data of radial distance centered on the robot to avoid the confronted obstacle. After gathering radial information, the ELA algorithm estimates emergency level around a robot and generates a polar histogram based on the emergency level to judge where the optimal free space is. Finally, steering angle is determined to guarantee rotation to randomly direction as well as robot width for safe avoidance. Simulation results from wandering in closed local area which includes various obstacles and different conditions demonstrate the power of the ELA.
There are increasing customer's needs for safe operation and comfort of trains for the passengers as trains are getting fast and developed with advanced components. To meet the needs we developed the system which is able to prevent possible risk elements by transverse vibrations during the train operation. System records the amplitude data of trains vibration and location data from GPS antenna in real time. The system is composed of 5 different functioning modules as following GCPU, GGWD, GIFD, GAID and GPSD. GAID module is detecting amplitude value of vibration which is sensed by bogie hunting sensor's. GFID gets location information where vibration data is detected with GPS Antenna. Once those data is prepared, GCPU testify it's amplitude and decides whether it send those data. When it sends those recorded data, those data are sent to control unit by MVB communication. we expect that this information will help operation and maintenance engineers improve the safety train services. This paper explains train transverse Vibrations data recording system and its major functions which can measure the amplitude of trains's data during the operation and introduces the configuration for the system setup.
