This study analyzed results of the rounding guidance by applying the nutrition management check list at of the Center for Children's Foodservice Management (CCFM). Totally, 271 foodservices for children (65 institutional foodservices, 53 small scale foodservices, 153 family child care homes) were examined to identify the necessity of implementing a nutrition management strategy, and subsequently creating a priority list for nutrition management improvement measures. Of the 13 items examined in the nutrition management check list for children's foodservices from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, 8 performed well, with an overall performance rate of 90% or more. Improvement plans were required for items (all belonging to the menu area) such as 'Post menu on noticeboard at children's foodservice' (62.0%), 'Use the menu planned by dietician' (64.9%), 'Use menu suitable for recipients in children's foodservice' (76.8%), and 'Provide menu to parents' (79.0%)'. In the analysis of service size, the performance rate for 'Use menu suitable for recipients in children's foodservice' revealed a substantially lower result (P<0.01) for institutional foodservices (64.6%), as compared to small scale foodservices (71.7%) and family child care homes (83.7%). Since other check list items, did not show much differences by the service size, we ascertained it pointless to establish separate strategies based on different foodservice sizes.

Korea is going to the structure of low fertility and aging population, which is so difficult to find a precedent in the world. Furthermore, since population structure is changing to the upside down pyramid type, it acts as a factor that makes the production population matters worse. In this situation, senior's job programme has fixed those problems to a certain extent, but more effective support system should be provided in the respect of economic and social integration. Also efforts should be made for a view to a wide range of job creation and dissemination. Decent jobs can be created in the area of culture, welfare, health care, tourism, by utilizing skills and experience that senior had before they retired. In conclusion, this study provides a theoretical basis for an efficient measure of senior's job programme.
Objectives: This study thus set out to examine the health literacy and self-care behaviors of community-dwelling elderly patients with hypertension and investigate their relations and influential factors, thus providing basic data to develop a nursing intervention program to promote self-care behaviors among hypertension patients. Methods: The subjects include 180 hypertension patients using community health centers, public senior centers, and welfare centers in Jeju. Results: The subjects scored a mean of 49.8 (${\pm}12.4$) points on health literacy and 55.8 (${\pm}6.7$) points on self-care behaviors. In the results of hierarchical regression analysis, health literacy independently predicted self-care behaviors (${\beta}=.12$, p=.050) after controlling for general characteristics, hypertension-related knowledge and self-efficacy. Conclusions: These results suggest that interventions for improving health literacy are important to enhance elder's ability of self-care behaviors. It is necessary to understand the health literacy of elderly patients with hypertension before providing them with educational intervention and information and to develop appropriate educational materials and intervention programs.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing quality of life of caregivers using day care services. Methods: Data were collected from 14 different day care services in D city, with a total of 146 female caregivers as participants. All participants were at home caregivers whose patients were senior citizens older than 65. Data were collected from September 1 to 30 of 2008 and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Quality of life among caregivers of day care services differed significantly according to state of health, other caregivers, job, and family income. Quality of life among caregivers showed correlation with caregiving burden. The significant predictors affecting quality of life were state of health, other caregivers, job, and family income and caregiving burden. A combination of these predictors accounted for 43.5% of the variance in quality of life. Conclusion: These findings show that quality of life of family caregivers using day care services is influenced by caregiving burden. Development of day care service programs is necessary in order to reduce caregiving burden of family caregivers for the elderly.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between glucose control, diabetes self-care and depression in community dwelling older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: The cross-sectional survey data of 148 older adults at a senior center were analyzed in this study. We collected data on diabetes self-care, depression, and demographics by face-to-face interviews. Blood samples for HbA1C were obtained from the participants. Results: The average duration of diabetes for the participants was $10.6{\pm}9.31$ years. Fifty percent of the participants had HbA1c higher than 7.0% (mean 7.179%). The level of diabetes self-care was related to depression (r=-.225, p<.01). HbA1c was positively related with the duration of diabetes diagnosis (r=.224, p<.01). The only sub-dimension of diabetes self-care that was related to depression was exercise (r=-.307, p<.01). Conclusion: Only half of the community dwelling older adults with type 2 diabetes had an optimal level of diabetes control. Supported by the evidence, the longer the duration of diabetes since the initial diagnosis, the poorer the glucose control was. Identification and intervention for depression in people with diabetes should be considered to improve diabetes self-care, especially to perform more exercise.
The elderly in the Joseon Dynasty consistently attracted attention from the national herb as objects of social respect. Based on the Confucian ideology, the old man was considered to be a receiving body, since he was a person with complete character as a man. The elderly, who have the character of being a slave, transcended their status, and both the souls and the people were transcended beyond their identities and attributes and became objects of respect. The perception of the elderly is divided by age. The persons who are 50 years old and start to be in physical decline were regarded as senior citizens. However, this was just mentioned as an inflection point between the prime of manhood and senior citizens and was not defined as the elderly. As a public duty called a national work ends when they are 60 years old, the age is truly the lowest limit of senior citizens who are applicable to all the social beings. However, because their public duties end when they are 60 years old and they were regarded as general members of society, special benefits were not granted to them. In the caste system and bureaucratic society, senior citizens' treatment were differently done by age. For the senior citizens who are 70 years old, various benefits were just granted to high government officials. Bokho(復戶) and Seojeong were first given to them. And the retirement age of government officials was not specially set. It was done in the way to treat Jonno with exceptional respect by Chisa(致仕: regular retirement). It is the most respectful treatment given to high government officials and ministers. For the senior citizens who are 80 years old, Yangnoyeon(養老宴) was held for both of Yangmin and Cheonmin as an measure to treat them considerately. In addition, official ranks(官品) with social value were allowed by giving them Noinjik (老人職). Official ranks given to Seoin and Cheonin were the best Jonno(尊老) policy. However, the Jonno policy related to senior citizens was different according to position and official ranks as follows: Kings were subjected to social treatment when they were 60 years old. High government officials and royal relatives of the senior grade of the second court rank were subjected to social treatment when they were 70 years old. And general Seoin and slaves were subjected to social treatment when they were respectively 80 and 90 years old. Senior citizens were individually supported. However, social value was granted because the nation supervised it. As Bokho and Sijeong were assigned according to position and official ranks and kinds of things were different, the social limit was clearly shown. Social order was put above the ideology called Jonno thought. However, Jonno acts by age and position did not stay at the individual level and the nation took care of the senior citizens who are the members of society in various ways based on Jonno thought. Society tried to take care of the senior citizens who had difficulties in their activities because of being in physical decline. The nation increased the existence value of the senior citizens by giving things(賜物) including chairs, rice, meat, and ice economically, exoneration(免罪), the reduction system, and wergild legally, and Noinjik called Gaja(加資) socially to them and changing them to the members of society. Yangnoyeon and Gaja held targeting people of every class by transcending position and official ranks make the point that the senior citizens who are more than 80 years old are subject to social jonno clear. That is, the senior citizens were subject to respect for the elderly as the persons who were socially respected transcending their position when they got to be 80 years old.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the present conditions and problems of oral health care in senior citizens with dementia using a qualitative research method, through focused group interviews. Methods: Data was collected for approximately one month from May 2019. The subjects were divided into two groups: care workers and family caregivers. Fifteen participants were included in the study. Results: In-depth interviews with the care workers revealed the following three categories: characteristics of senile dementia patients, oral health care in senile dementia patients, and oral health care education. In-depth interviews with the family caregivers revealed the following four categories: characteristics of senile dementia patients, oral health care in senile dementia patients, oral health care education, and burden of care. The central themes common to both the care workers and family caregivers were the challenges owing to the characteristics of senile dementia patients, poor health condition of the senile dementia patients, difficulty in oral health care of the senile dementia patients, the desire to receive oral health care education and related information, and to access the information more easily. Additional central themes specific to the care workers were, the applicability of the intervention programs, variability between the facilities, and the problems of oral health care education. An additional central theme specific to the family caregivers was the burden of care. Conclusions: It is necessary to provide oral health care education and information to care workers and family caregivers of senile dementia patients, and to manage and support the dental health professionals ready to care for senile dementia patients. In addition, support to the family caregivers should not be limited only to the financial aspects, but also consider the psychological and emotional difficulties.

This paper proposes a system that utilizes USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network), Bluetooth and smart phone to improve the function of senior houses. In typical approach, a system in a senior house either directly accesses the status of elderly people by its sensor or is alerted by elderly people who trigger an emergency bell, derive a decision and take an appropriate action. In addition, it is possible for a designated social worker to check the status of senior patients through monitoring system connected by UTP(Unshielded Uwisted Pair) cables, but the responsible person has to be present to monitor patients' status. However, the new system, suggested in this paper, embed Bluetooth function in a blood pressure gauge, thus the smart phone receives patients' health information such as blood pressure through Bluebooth, if any abnormal event occurs. Consequently, the smart phone sends SMS(Short Message Service) to a responsible social worker or a designated hospital. When this program in the paper becomes a reality, an unmanned system that is able to determine suitable actions for certain events will be established, even if a social worker were absence.
The nation is turning into aging society, and safety accidents among elderly people are on the rise. When death roll caused by safety accidents was investigated, senior citizens who died from safety accidents outnumbered the other age groups who died for the same reason. The most common cause of death was traffic accidents, followed by suicide and a hurt from a fall, and Korea rated first among OECD member nations in death roll by traffic accidents. Aging brings a lot of physical changes to elderly people, and they are often likely to be involved in accidents such as a hurt from a fall due to degenerated sensory organs like hearing and eyesight and deteriorated motor skills. Unsafe social facilities also have them face a lot of accidents, including fracture and death, and such accidents take place even at home that is usually considered safe, or are triggered by things of daily use. As a result of comparing every age group's death roll by safety accidents, the number of senior citizens who died from safety accidents was far higher than that of the other age groups who died for the same reason in every accident field. In aging society, a sharp increase in the elderly population and ensuing safety accidents are expected to pose a serious threat to national economy, and diverse efforts should be put into tacking this problem. For instance, safety education should be provided to people in general including senior citizens on a regular basis, and more safety facilities should be prepared. Besides, safety equipment should be developed.
Purpose: Increase in suicide rate for senior citizens which has become widespread in our society today. It is not a normal social phenomenon and is beyond the danger level. The contents of this study include Korean senior citizens' suicide related risk factors and warning signs, and the development of a simple Geriatric Suicide Risk Scale. Methods: This study is Methodological Research to verify reliability and validity of the Geriatric Suicide Risk Scale according to the tool development process suggested by Devellis (2012). Results: For predictive validity assessment, high suicide screening accuracy was showed with an Area under the ROC curve (AUC) of .93. For the optimal cutoff point of 11, sensitivity was 93.9%, and specificity, 75.7% which are excellence levels. Cross validity for assessment of generalization possibility showed the Area under the ROC curve (AUC) as .82 and in case of a cutoff point of 11, sensitivity was 73.7%, and specificity, 65.9%. Conclusion: When it comes to practical nursing, it is significant that the Korean Geriatric Suicide Risk Scale has high reliability and validity through adequate tool development and the tool assessment step to select degree of suicide risk of senior citizens. Also, it can be easily applied and does not take a long time to administer. Further, it can be used by health care personnel or the general public.
