Free vibration of a semi-circular pipe conveying fluid is analyzed when the pipe is clamped at both ends. To consider the geometric non-linearity, this study adopts the Lagrange strain theory and the extensibility of the pipe. By using the extended Hamilton principle, the non-linear partial differential equations are derived, which are coupled to the in-plane and out-of\ulcornerplant: motions. To investigate the vibration characteristics of the system, the discretized equations of motion are derived from the Galerkin method. The natural frequencies are computed from the linearized equations of motion in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position. From the results. the natural frequencies for the in-plane and out-of-plane motions are vary with the flow velocity. However, no instability occurs the semi-circular pipe with both ends clamped, when taking into account the geometric non-linearity explained by the Lagrange strain theory.

In the field of computer graphics, Navier-Stokes equations would be used for realistic simulations of smokes and currents. However, implementations derived from these equations are hard to achieve for real-time simulations, mainly due to its massive and complex calculations. Thus, there have been various attempts to approximate these equations for real-time simulation of smokes and others. When the advection terms of the equations are approximated by the Semi-Lagrange methods, the fluid density can be rapidly reduced and small-scale vorticity phenomena are easy to be missed, mainly due to the numerical losses over time. In this paper, we propose an improved numerical method to approximately calculate the advection terms, and thus eliminate these problems. To calculate the advection terms, our method starts to set critical regions around the target grid points. Then, among the grid points in a specific critical region, we search for a grid point which will be advected to the target grid point, and use the velocity of this grid point as its advection vector. This method would reduce the numerical losses in the calculation of densities and vorticity phenomena, and finally can implement more realistic smoke simulations. We also improve the overall efficiency of vector calculations and related operations through GPU-based implementation techniques, and thus finally achieve the real-time simulation.
In this present paper, a semi-analytical mesh-free method is employed for the three-dimensional free vibration analysis of a bi-directional functionally graded piezoelectric circular structure. The dependent variables have been expanded by Fourier series with respect to the circumferential direction and have been discretized through radial and axial directions based on the mesh-free shape function. The current approach has a distinct advantage. The nonlinear Green-Lagrange strain is employed as the relationship between strain and displacement fields to observe thermal impacts in stiffness matrices. Nevertheless, high order terms have been neglected at the final steps of equations driving. The material properties are assumed to vary continuously in both radial and axial directions simultaneously in accordance with a power law distribution. The convergence and validation studies are conducted by comparing our proposed solution with available published results to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of our approach. After the validation study, a parametric study is undertaken to investigate the temperature effects, different types of polarization, mechanical and electric boundary conditions and geometry parameters of structures on the natural frequencies of functionally graded piezoelectric circular structures.

This article offers a thorough exploration of a modified Black-Scholes model featuring two assets. The determination of option prices is accomplished through the Black-Scholes partial differential equation, leveraging the variational iteration method. This approach represents a semi-analytical technique that incorporates the use of Lagrange multipliers. The Lagrange multiplier emerges as a beacon of efficiency, adeptly streamlining the computational intricacies, and elevating the model's efficacy to unprecedented heights. For better understanding of the presented system, a graphical and tabular interpretation is presented with the help of Maple software.

Two semi-analytic solutions for a perturbed two-body problem known as Lagrange planetary equations (LPE) were compared to a numerical integration of the equation of motion with same perturbation force. To avoid the critical conditions inherited from the configuration of LPE, non-singular orbital elements (EOE) had been introduced. In this study, two types of orbital elements, classical Keplerian orbital elements (COE) and EOE were used for the solution of the LPE. The effectiveness of EOE and the discrepancy between EOE and COE were investigated by using several near critical conditions. The near one revolution, one day, and seven days evolutions of each orbital element described in LPE with COE and EOE were analyzed by comparing it with the directly converted orbital elements from the numerically integrated state vector in Cartesian coordinate. As a result, LPE with EOE has an advantage in long term calculation over LPE with COE in case of relatively small eccentricity.

The vibration of a semi-circular pipe conveying fluid is studied when the pipe is clamped at both ends. To consider the geometric nonlinearity, this study adopts the Lagrange strain theory for large deformation and the extensible dynamics based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory for slenderness assumption. By using the Hamilton principle, the non-linear partial differential equations are derived for the in-plane motions of the pipe, considering the fluid inertia forces as a kind of non-conservative forces. The linear and non-linear terms in the governing equations are compared with those in the previous study, and some significant differences are discussed. To investigate the dynamic characteristics of the system, the discretized equations of motion are derived from the Galerkin method. The natural frequencies varying with the flow velocity are computed from the two cases, which one is the linear problem and the other is the linearized problem in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position. Finally, the time responses at various flow velocities are directly computed by using the generalized-$\alpha$ method. From these results, we should consider the geometric nonlinearity to analyze dynamics of a semi-circular pipe conveying fluid more precisely.

This paper presents a comprehensive analytical approach for determining key maneuver parameters associated with the acquisition and maintenance of the ground track for a low-earth orbit. A livearized model relating changes in the drift rate of the ground track directly to changes in the orbital semi-major axis is also developed. The effect of terrestrial atmospheric drag on the semi-major axis is also explored, being quantified through an analytical expression for the decay rate as a function of density. The non-singular Lagrange planetary equations, further simplified for nearly circular orbits, provide the desired relationships between the corrective in-plane impulsive velocity increments and the corresponding effects on the orbit elements. The resulting solution strategy offers excellent insight into the dynamics affecting the timing, magnitude, and frequency of these maneuvers. Simulations are executed for the ground track acquisition and maintenance maneuver as a pre-flight planning and analysis.

Frozen orbit is an attractive option for orbital design owing to its characteristics (its argument of pericenter and eccentricity are kept constant on an average). Solar sails are attractive solutions for massive and expensive missions. However, the solar radiation pressure effect represents an additional force on the solar sail that may greatly affect its orbital behavior in the long run. Thus, this force must be included as a perturbation force in the dynamical model for more accuracy. This study shows the calculations of initial conditions for a lunar solar sail frozen orbit. The disturbing function of the problem was developed to include the lunar gravitational field that is characterized by uneven mass distribution, third body perturbation, and the effect of solar radiation. An averaging technique was used to reduce the dynamical problem to a long period system. Lagrange planetary equations were utilized to formulate the rate of change of the argument of pericenter and eccentricity. Using the reduced system, frozen orbits for the Moon sail orbiter were constructed. The resulting frozen orbits are shown by two 3Dsurface (semi-major, eccentricity, inclination) figures. To simplify the analysis, we showed inclination-eccentricity contours for different values of semi-major axis, argument of pericenter, and values of sail lightness number.
In this study, a direct Lagrangian-based three-dimensional computational procedure is developed to evaluate the seismic performance of reinforced concrete liquid-containing circular tanks (RC-LCT). In this approach, fluid-structure interaction (FSI), material nonlinearity, and liquid-structure large deformations are formulated realistically. Liquid is modeled using Mie-Grüneisen equation of state (EOS) in compressible form considering the convective and impulsive motions of fluid. The developed numerical framework is validated based on a previous study. Further, nonlinear analyses are carried out to assess the seismic performance of RC-LCT with various diameter-to-liquid height ratios ranging from 2.5 to 4.0. Based on observations, semi-deep tanks (i.e., D/Hl=2.5) show low collapse ductility due to their shear failure mode while shallow tanks (i.e., D/Hl=4.0) behave in a more ductile manner due to their dominant wall membrane action. Furthermore, the semi-deep tanks provide the least over-strength and ductility due to their catastrophic failure with little energy dissipation. This study shows that LCTs can be categorized as between immediately operational and life safety levels and therefore a drift limiting criterion is necessary to prevent probable damages during earthquakes.
