The Influence of Personality Characteristics and Decision Making Type on Self-Leadership of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 성격특성과 의사결정유형이 셀프리더십에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of personality characteristics and decision making type on the self-leadership of nursing students. Methods: The participants were 336 nursing students using a self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: There were significant positive correlations between self-leadership and extraversion (r=.50, p<.001), agreeableness (r=.22, p<.001), conscientiousness (r=.60, p<.001), openness to experience (r=.36, p<.001), and rational style (r=.47, p<.001). However the correlation between self-leadership and dependent style was significantly negative (r=-.11, p=.044). Conscientiousness (${\beta}$=.60, p<.001), extraversion (${\beta}$=.28, p<.001), and rational style (${\beta}$=.21, p<.001), openness to experience (${\beta}$=.18, p<.001), and degree of leadership level (${\beta}$=.10, p=.020) were identified as factors affecting self-leadership. The explanation power of this regression model was 50.0% and it was statistically significant (F=67.52, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that effective self-leadership programs should be developed by including conscientiousness, extraversion, openness to experience, and rational decision making.

Influence of Self-esteem, Empathy and Existential Well-being on Spiritual Care Competence in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 자아존중감, 공감, 실존적 안녕감이 영적간호역량에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify effects of self-esteem, empathy and existential well-being on spiritual care competence in nursing students. Methods: Participants were 357 nursing students from three colleges in G metropolitan city. The survey was conducted from March 11 to April 3, 2015, with a self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS version 21.0. Results: Differences in spiritual care competence were statistically significant according to experience in providing spiritual care and recognition of need for spiritual care. There were significant differences in self-esteem, empathy and existential well-being according to satisfaction with major, satisfaction with life and recognition of the need for spiritual care. Spiritual care competence of nursing students showed a significantly positive correlation to self-esteem, empathy and existential well-being. Factors influencing spiritual care competence were recognition of need for spiritual care, self-esteem, empathy and experience in providing spiritual care, which explained about 16% of spiritual care competence. Conclusion: Results indicate the importance of developing an intervention program for nursing students to strengthen spiritual care competence through improved recognition of needs for spiritual care, self-esteem, empathy and experience in providing spiritual care.

Effects of Safety Awareness and Self-Efficacy on Safety Practice with Elementary School Studentsts: Focusing on the Changwon City (안전의식, 자기효능감이 초등학생들의 안전실천에 미치는 영향: 경남 창원시를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify how safety awareness and self-efficacy affect the safety practice with elementary school students. The participants were 369 elementary school students(4~6th grade) in Changwon city. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed with the SPSSWIN 22.0 program. Analysis methods were t-test, one way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearsons correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression. As a results, safety awareness was an average 2.97 point which was moderate levels and self-efficacy was on over intermediate level of an average 3.73 point. Safety practice was an 3.00 point. Safety practice had statistically significant difference according to grade, number of family, mother's education, character and school life attitude. Safety awareness(r=.41, p<.001) and self-efficacy(r=.39, p<.001) was significant correlation with safety practice. Fire safety(${\beta}=.22$, t=3.56) and self-efficacy(${\beta}=.27$, t=5.32) were significantly influenced safety practice and explaining 24.0% of the variance. From the results of this study, I proposed the education programs to increase safety practice in elementary school students that emphasizes self-efficacy and safety awareness.

Factors influencing organizational socialization in new dental hygienists (신규치과위생사의 조직사회화에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: This study investigated the factors influencing organizational socialization of new dental hygienists and provides basic data for successful organizational socialization. Methods: Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 199 new dental hygienists of dental clinic and hospital between June and September 2018. Data analysis using SPSS 22.0 included Independent t-test, one way ANOVA, Scheffe post-hoc test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The new dental hygienists' professional self-concept, interpersonal ability, and organizational socialization value were $3.27{\pm}0.50$, $3.55{\pm}0.45$, and $3.03{\pm}0.37$, respectively. There were significant positive correlations between professional self-concepts, interpersonal relations, and organizational socialization. A positive correlation was found between professional self-concept and interpersonal relations. Factors affecting organizational socialization of new dental hygienists included the strength of work, interpersonal relations, and professional self-concept. Professional self-concept was the most influential factor leading to 54.7% of the variance in organizational socialization. Conclusions: Therefore, to improve the organizational socialization of new dental hygienists and reduce the turnover rate, it is necessary to develop and implement programs promoting professional self-concept and interpersonal relations.

The Self-Concept in Fashion Consumer Behavior (패션 마케팅 전략을 위한 자아개념 연구)

  • The purpose of this study were to (1) suggest that the combination of self-concept and innovation-theory could help in fashion marketing strategies and (2) to find unique characteristics of fashion innovators in self-concept. For this purposes, the self-concept theories and the related research studies were reviewed, and a valid and reliable self-report scale was used to measure fashion innovativeness for 236 female college students. The t-test were used to compare the self-concept items between innovators and followers. The results are as follows; 1. The fashion consumption is a manifestation of self image and consumers choose products that are consistent with their self-concept. 2. Fashion innovators describe themselves as more modern, indulgent, colorful, vain, liberal, delicated, dominant, and organized than followers. The implications of the findings for fashion merchandising are discussed.

Relationships among Emotional Labor, Self Efficacy, and Burnout of Employees in Public Health Centers (보건소 보건의료직 종사자들의 감정노동, 자기효능감 및 소진의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive, cross-sectional study was to examine relationships among emotional labor, self-efficacy, and burnout of employees in public health centers. Factors that influence burnout of workers were also assessed. Methods: One hundred sixty six workers in public health centers completed a pack of self-report questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA along with $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Employees in public health centers seemed to experience emotional labor to some extent. There were statistically significant differences in burnout depending on the age of workers. Employees' burnout had a positive relationship with emotional labor and a negative relationship with self-efficacy. Factors influencing burnout of employees in public health centers were emotional dissonance, surveillance & monitoring of organization, age, and self-efficacy. Conclusion: Considering the findings from this study, health care providers need to develop effective interventions which increase the level of self-efficacy and decrease certain types of emotional labor for employees in public health centers and to help them effectively manage burnout.

The Effects of Clinical Learning Environment on Nursing Students' Powerlessness and Self-Efficacy Related to Clinical Practice (간호대학생의 임상실습교육환경이 임상실습 관련 무력감과 자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of the clinical learning environment on nursing students' powerlessness and self-efficacy related to clinical practice. Methods: Participants were 149 nursing students from a university who had completed their clinical practicum in B city. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The mean score of the clinical learning environment was 2.99 out of 5 points, the powerlessness related to the clinical practice, 2.96 out of 5 points, and the self-efficacy related to clinical practice, 73.69 out of 100 points, respectively. The regression analysis showed that the clinical learning environment explained 11% of the powerlessness related to clinical practice and 3% of the self-efficacy related to clinical practice in the nursing students after controlling for the general characteristics. Conclusions: The result of this study indicated that it is necessary to improve the clinical learning environment for decreasing the feeling of powerlessness and increasing the self-efficiency related to clinical practice among the nursing students.

Effects of Self Care and Depression on the Yangsaeng of Diabetes Mellitus Patients (당뇨병 환자의 자가관리, 우울 양상이 양생에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate self care, depression, and Yangsaeng and to confirm the factors related to Yangsaeng of diabetes mellitus patients. The survey was conducted on 116 subjects who consented to Institutional Review Board for diabetes mellitus patients in the area and data were collected by self-report questionnaire. The questionnaires consisted of self care, depression, and Yangsaeng. Date analysis was done by SPSS 22.0 with T-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Yangsaeng was significantly related to the educational level, partner, income, perceived health status, depression, and admission for diabetes mellitus. Yangsaeng and self care showed positive correlation, on the other hand Yangsaeng and depression showed negative correlation. Yangsaeng was found to be related to education level, self care, and depression through the multiple regression. In conclusion, the Yangsaeng score increased with improving of blood glucose level and depression. Based on these results, we considered various characteristics such as patient's age and illness characteristics, therefore it is necessary to develop a method to measure Yangsaeng.

Effects of Self-efficacy, Health Attitudes, and Healthy Lifestyle on Recovery of People with Mental Disorders in the Community (지역사회 거주 정신질환자의 자기효능감, 건강태도, 건강생활습관이 회복에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self-efficacy, health attitudes and healthy lifestyles on recovery of people with mental disorders in the community. Methods: Participants were 188 people with mental disorders receiving mental health services at community mental health welfare centers in the J province. The data were collected from May to June, 2018. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure general self-efficacy, health attitude scale, healthy lifestyles and recovery. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA with $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise regression using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. Results: Self-efficacy, health attitudes, and healthy lifestyle of people with mental disorders were significant factors, explained about 72% of the variance on recovery. Conclusion: These findings suggest that education programs and health promotion programs focused on healthy lifestyles, improving health attitudes, and self-efficacy should be developed for people with mental disorders to promote their recovery.

Effects of Character, Nursing Professionalism and Self-Efficacy on Self-Directed Learning Ability in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 인성, 간호전문직관 및 자기효능감이 자기주도학습능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among character, nursing professionalism, self-efficacy and self-directed learning ability of nursing students as well as to identify the factors influencing self-directed learning ability. Data were collected from May 22 to June 8, 2017 using a self-report questionnaire and questionnaires from 396 nursing students in J Province. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Dunnett's T3 test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchical regression analysis. The mean scores of character, nursing professionalism, self-efficacy and self-directed learning ability were $3.93{\pm}0.47$, $3.83{\pm}0.48$, $3.53{\pm}0.59$ and $3.63{\pm}0.51$, respectively. Character, nursing professionalism, and self-efficacy were positively correlated with self-directed learning ability. The factors influencing self-directed learning ability of nursing students were participation in class, satisfaction with major, awareness of self-initiated life, self-control, will and competence, habit, and self-efficacy, nursing professionalism had no significant effect. Based on these findings, programs that develop character, self-efficacy, and nursing professionalism are necessary for nursing students to promote self-directed learning ability.
