The objectives of this study were to investigate the relationships between self-concept and cosmetic benefits sought, to disclose the differences in the benefits according to demographic variables and cosmetic purchase behavior, and to examine how cosmetic benefits were influenced by self-concept and demographic variables of women. Subjects were 453 women in age from 18 to 55 years in Seoul. Four dimensions of cosmetic benefits of women were derived by factor analysis :'brand orientation', 'fashion', 'economies', and 'functional efficiency', Cosmetic benefit was influenced most by family self-concept, and self-concept was influenced most by benefit of economics, next by functional efficiency, and fashion. Brand orientation, fashion, and economics showed significant differences according to marital status. The higher the income, the higher the score on brand orientation, fashion, and functional efficiency. There were significant differences in brand orientation, fashion, and economics according to cosmetic purchase expense, the number of purchase times, and stores, while functional efficiency showed no significant difference depending upon the number of cosmetic purchase times. Brand orientation was influenced by marital status, income, and physical self, fashion influenced by age(-), physical self, income, and family self(-). Economics was influenced by family self(-) and marital status(-). The present findings provided that self-concept such as physical self and family self is significant variables to understand the cosmetic benefits sought.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the effects of maternal sociodemographic characteristics, especially education and employment, and parenting stress on the child's self-concept. Attention was also paid to the mediating impact of parenting style on the relationship between the maternal variables and a child's self-concept. Methods : A questionnaire and three scales were completed by fifth graders and their mothers, and 270 sets of paired data were analyzed. Results : The results showed that mothers with higher education experienced less child-related parenting stress, were perceived to be more achievement-oriented and rational by their children, and also had children with more positive self-concept. The relationship between maternal education and child's self-concept was mediated by the rationality dimension of parenting style. Maternal employment was not related to parenting stress, parenting style and most aspects of the child's self-concept. Lastly, child-related parenting stress had a negative effect on the child's self-concept, and this effect was mediated by the warmth and rationality dimensions of parenting style. Conclusion : Parenting style had a mediating effect on the relationships between the child's self-concept and maternal education and child-related parenting stress.
This study was designed to examine the effect of five years old boys' and girls' self-concept and leadership on the teacher-child relationship. The participants were 51 boys and 64 girls who were five years old in Jeonrabukdo. The results were as follows. First, in the case of the boys, there was significant relationship between their self concept of language, the parent relationship and an intimate teacher-child relationship. The self-concept of body and the teacher-child relationship of conflict were positively correlated. In the case of the girls, there were significant relationships between the self concept of body, language, the parent relationship, friends' relationship and the general and intimate teacher-child self-concept. The self-concept of mathematics and conflictive teacher-child relation were positively correlated. Second, there were significant relationships among the sub variable of leadership and an intimate teacher-child relationship. However, prosocial leadership, directedness and a conflictive teacher-child relationship were negatively correlated in the case of the boys. Third, the teacher-child relationship was affected by leadership more than the self concept, and prosocial leadership was highly related in boys and girls.
The purpose of this study was to examine how the career maturity of high school students was affected directly or indirectly by psychological separation from their mothers and through the mediation of self-concept. The subjects in this study were 496 juniors from regular high school in the city of Daegu, who included 243 boys and 253 girls. The measurements of this study were a career-maturity inventory, psychological separation inventory (PSI), and self-concept scale. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, career maturity had significantly positive correlation to conflictual independence from mothers for them. Second, as for the influence of psychological separation, and self-concept on career maturity, three variables, including competence self-concept, home self-concept, attitudinal independence from mothers, classroom self-concept, had significantly explanation of career maturity. Third, as a result of making a path analysis of the impact of psychological separation from mothers on career maturity through the medium of self-concept, conflictual independence gave a direct impact only, and its indirect effect was insignificant. The attitudinal independence showed both direct and indirect influences, for mothers had a significantly indirect impact only.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the degree of paramedics' professional self-concept, empowerment, and burnout and to verify the effects of empowerment and burnout on their professional self-concept. Method: The study subjects were 116 in-hospital paramedics who completed a structured questionnaire. Data were collected between June 18 and 25, 2013. Results: The results were as follows. First, the paramedics' mean score for professional self-concept was 2.93 (range: 1-4), and the mean scores for empowerment and burnout were 2.87 (range: 1-4) and 2.48 (range: 1-5). Second, in terms of the general characteristics of the paramedics, professional self-concept showed significant differences based on sex, religion, work experience, and medical institution classification. Third, professional self-concept had a positive correlation with empowerment, and professional self-concept and empowerment had negative correlations with burnout. Fourth, the main variables affecting paramedics' professional self-concept were gender and total years of work experience. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop program to reduce paramedics' burnout and qualitatively improve paramedic services.

Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the perceived relationship among professional self-concept, head nurse's leadership, and nursing clinical competency by clinical nurses. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey. Participants were 601 nurses working at the five general hospitals in four provincial cities, Gyeungbuk, Korea. Data were collected from July 14, 2010 to August 31 and analyzed by SPSS/PC ver 18.0 programs. Results: Professional self-concept and head nurse's leadership were slightly above the middle average, but nursing clinical competency was good. According to participants' age, marital status, job satisfaction, and length of service, there were perceptional differences in professional self-concept, head nurse's leadership, and nursing clinical competency. Nursing clinical competency could be explained by head nurse's leadership, professional self-concept, job satisfaction and length of service. Head nurse's leadership was independent variable affecting nursing clinical competency, professional self-concept was partial mediating variable, and job satisfaction and length of service were extraneous variables. Conclusion: It is concluded that head nurse's leadership is more important than professional self-concept to improve nursing clinical competency. Nursing managers should plan various strategies to improve head nurse's leadership and professional self-concept, to increase clinical nurses' job satisfaction and length of service.
This study examined the mediating effect of self-concept on the relationship of peer victimization and social anxiety in middle school students. Study participants consisted of 235 (122 boys and 113 girls) first to third graders from three middle schools located in Seoul and Gyung-gi province. The School Violence Experience Scale and the Self-Concept Scale were used to measure research variables in the Korean version of Social Anxiety Scale for adolescents. Descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation coefficients were calculated to examine the general tendency of study variables. In addition, structural equation modeling(SEM) was used to examine the mediating model. The study results were as follows. First, the level of peer victimization of the middle school students decreased the self-concept level; in addition, the self-concept level had a significant negative effect on the social anxiety level. Second, the self-concept level fully mediated the peer victimization and social anxiety relationship. In conclusion, a higher peer victimization level resulted in a lower self-concept level, that produced a higher social anxiety level in middle school students. The results suggested that implementing effective interventions to prevent peer victimization and encouraging a positive self-concept in middle school students would make a significant contribution to reducing social anxiety.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the image of nurses and the professional self-concept perceived by nursing students. Method: The subjects included were 93 students. The research tool was the Professional Self-Concept of Nurses Instrument(PSCNI) by Arthur and Image of Nurses by Yang. Result: 1. The professional self-concept consisted of 4 factors : flexibility, satisfaction, competence, empathy. 2. The image of nurse consisted of 4 factors : official image, maternal image, professional image. unfavorable image. 3. The average item score of PSCNI was $2.94{\pm}30$. 4. The average item score of nurse' image was $3.63{\pm}46$ 5. The Professional self-concept of nurses(p=.0001) and image of nurses(p=.001) was found to significantly according to satisfaction for major. 6. The correlation between professional self-concept and image of nurses revealed correlation of r=.315(p=.004). Conclusion: There was a association between professional self concept of nurses, image of nurses and satisfaction for major. Therefore it is required to develop education program and strategy that helps establish satisfaction for major so that nursing students can experience firm professional self concept and positive image of nursing.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship among professional self-concept, self-esteem and job satisfaction in the clinical dental hygienists and provide the basic data for the effective management of clinical dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 250 clinical dental hygienists in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang Provinces from February 1 to March 30, 2017. Data were analyzed using IMB SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Professional self-concept, self-esteem and job satisfaction according to the general characteristics and job characteristics were analzyed by independent t-test, one way ANOVA and Tukey. The relationship among professional self-concept, self-esteem and job satisfaction was found by Pearson's correlation. Multiple regression analysis was used to find out the relationship among professional self-concept, self-esteem and job satisfaction in the clinical dental hygienist. The significance level was a=0.05. Results: Clinical dental hygienist's professional self-concept was 3.76 points, self-esteem was 3.08 points and job satisfaction was 3.35 points. In general characteristics, professional self-concept showed the significant differences by age (p=0.043), marital status (p=0.005), level of education (p=0.001), duration of clinical career (p=0.003) and economic level (p=0.001). Job satisfaction showed the significant differences by age (p=0.019) and level of education (p=0.024). In job related characteristic, professional self-concept showed the significant differences by working area (p=0.001), working intensity (p=0.011) and position (p=0.001), while job satisfaction showed the significant differences by working area (p=0.014) and working intensity (p=0.001). Influencing factors in the job satisfaction in the clinical dental hygienists were age, working intensity, self-esteem, and professional self-concept. The explanatory of the model was 29.0%. Conclusions: Professional self-concept, self-esteem and job satisfaction in the clinical dental hygienists are related. To improve job satisfaction of the clinical dental hygienists, program development and institutional support to improve self-esteem and professional self-concept are needed.
Purpose: This study was to investigate family functioning, self-concept and health promotion behavior of elementary school students and to find out the correlation among these variables. Method: The subjects were 277 students who participated voluntarily in the questionnaire. The instrument used in this study was family APGAR, self-concept and health promotion behavior tool. The data were collected from May 18th to 21st, 2004 with a self-administered questionnaire, using frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS 10.0 win. Results: 1) The mean score of health promotion behavior by general characteristics was significant in educational status of mother (F=5.352, p=0.005), living standard (F=9.646, p=0.000) and perceived health status (F=8.349, p=0.000). 2) The mean score of family functioning was 3.57 (5 point scale), self-concept was 3.47 (5 point scale) and health promotion behavior was 3.67 (5 point scale). 3) In the relationship between family functioning and self-concept was correlated (r=.547), family functioning and health promotion behavior was correlated (r=.518) and self-concept and health promotion behavior was correlated (r=.670). 4) The most influencing variable was self-concept, accounting for 43% in stepwise multiple regression. A combination of self-concept, family functioning and perceived health status explained 47% of the variance for health promoting behavior. Conclusion: Considering the results above, we can recognize that there are close relations among the family functioning, self-concept and health promotion behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to elevate the level of self-concept and family functioning in order to get health promotion behavior of the elementary school students.
