The aim of the current study is to examine the effects of mothers' home management ability on school-aged children's time and life management skills through the mediation effect of children's self-regulation. Study subjects were 317 5- and 6-grade children at elementary schools located in Seoul and Gyeonggi area and their 317 mothers. The findings were as follows. First, in the SEM model of predicting children's time management skill, greater mothers' home management ability significantly predicted better time management skills among their children. Second, mothers' home management ability also indirectly affected children's time management skill through its significant effects on children's self-regulation. The test yielded a significantly mediation effect of self-regulation. Children's self-regualtion was strongly related to time management skills. Third, in the SEM model predicting children's life management skills, maternal ability of home management again directly predicted greater life management skills of their children. However, mediation of self-regulation was not statistically significant. The findings suggested the important role of mothers' home management ability in instilling and modeling self-regulation and self-management skills of school-aged children.
This study examined the structural relationships among the child's playfulness, self-regulation, and ego-resilience. Through an examination of these relationship, this research aimed to analyze the direct and indirect influences of the child's playfulness on self-regulation and ego-resilience. The participants of this study consisted of 359 children attending kindergartens in the Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. The sample was analyzed using the SPSS 21.0, AMOS 21.0, and Maximum Likelihood method (ML). The significance of the indirect effects was tested by means of bootstrapping. The results of this study were as follows: (i) the child's playfulness had a direct influence on relational ego-resilience; (ii) the child's playfulness directly affected self-regulation; (iii) the child's self-regulation directly affected relational and aptitudinal ego-resilience; and (iv) the child's playfulness was indirectly influential to relational resilience and resilient competency through self-regulation. The discussion also took into account the specific methods which can be used to enhance the child's playfulness and self-regulation.
The purpose of this study was to compare self-regulation and sociality between elementary scientific gifted students and general students. The subjective students are composed of fifth and sixth grade elementary school students. A survey on self-regulation and sociality had been conducted to 106 general students, 38 gifted class students and 43 students in science educational institute for the gifted. The results of this study were as follows: First, the results of ANOVA test showed that the scientific gifted students were significantly better than general students on all subscales of self-regulation and sociality. Second, the results of correlation analysis indicated that self-regulation and sociality and their subscales were all highly positive relationship on students in science educational institute for the gifted, gifted class students and general students. Third, the results of multiple regression analysis showed that the motivational factor of self-regulation gave the greatest effect to the sociality of students in science educational institute for the gifted, whereas, the cognitive factor of self-regulation gave the greatest effect to the sociality of the general students and gifted class students.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the process of how a parent-child relationship affects an impaired objective self, emotional regulation difficulties, and, consequently, interpersonal problems. Methods: To carry out this study, a total of 467 married women were surveyed on their parent-child relationship, impaired objective self, and emotional regulation difficulties. The resulting data was interpreted using descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation models analysis. Results: First, the parent-child relationship shows negative correlations with an impaired objective self, emotional regulation difficulties, and interpersonal problems. In addition, an impaired objective self, emotional regulation difficulties, and interpersonal problems show positive correlations with one another. Second, an impaired objective self and emotional regulation difficulties mediate the parent-child relationship and intrapersonal problems consecutively. Conclusions: This indicates that efforts to mitigate an impaired objective self and to intervene in difficulties in emotional regulation can help address intrapersonal difficulties. Finally, this paper examines how this study affects the ongoing discussion on this matter and its implications for future studies.
While making a vigorous discussion about self-regulation for exponential growth of harmful health information on the Internet, many countries lave made various efforts to select and circulate high quality health information on the Internet. The purpose of this study Is to review the serf-regulation methods of health information on the Internet and to suggest quality control methods of health information on the Internet suitable for Korea. Self-regulation methods of the health information on the Internet include ‘content rating system(or content selection system)’, ‘codes of conduct or guideline’, ‘internet hot-line’, ‘education for information providers and consumers’. Any self-regulation method should be used with other methods. We can regulate health information on the Internet effectively by using both self-regulation methods and compulsive methods such as law. Also information providers, information consumers, specialists, consumer representatives, scholars, governments officers should take part in doing these efforts and make concern.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to examine the multiple mediated effects of self-regulation and hopelessness between self efficacy and internet game addiction in middle school students. Methods: The participants were 458 middle school students in G City, South Korea. Multiple mediation was analyzed using Indirect SPSS macro and the bootstrapping method. Results: Significant negative correlations were observed for internet game addiction, self-efficacy, and self-regulation. Self-efficacy and self-regulation were positively correlated. Self-efficacy showed a direct effect on Internet game addiction. The results of the indirect effects of all mediators showed the mediated effect of self-regulation (estimated effect=-.11, 95% CI[-.20, -.03]) and hopelessness(estimated effect=-.06, 95% CI[-.12, -.01]). Conclusion: Based on these study results, we suggest that self-efficacy should be examined to prevent development of Internet game addiction in middle school students. It is necessary to provide Internet game addiction preventive programs focusing on changing the self-regulation and relieving the feelings of hopelessness.
Types of motivation for self-determination studied in the current research included intrinsic motivation (IM) to know, IM to accomplish, IM to experience stimulation; external, introjected, identified regulation; and amotivation as related to children's self-regulated learning strategies (use of cognitive strategy and self-regulation). The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (Pintrich & DeGroot, 1990) and the Academic Motivation Scale (Vallerand et al., 1992, 1993) were administered to 123 $5^{th}$ graders (63 girls, 60 boys). Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, multiple regression, and canonical correlation analysis. Results indicated that IM to accomplish, IM to know, and identified regulation positively and amotivation negatively affected self-regulated learning strategies. IM to accomplish and IM to know positively and amotivation negatively contributed to use of cognitive strategy and self-regulation.
This study examined the structural relationships among parent's play participation, children's playfulness, self-regulation and happiness. In this Study, subjects were 274 children who were 4 through 5 years old. The participants included 274 preschoolers' parents and their teachers in D city. The parents completed questionnaires regarding parent's play participation with their children and children's self-regulation. The teachers completed questionnaires regarding preschoolers' happiness and playfulness. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation analysis and mediation analysis based on structural equation modeling with SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 23.0 program. Also, specific indirect effects were analyzed using AMOS user-defined estimand function. The primary results of this study were as follows. 1) The parent's play participation had an influence upon children's playfulness and self-regulation. 2) The children's playfulness had an influence upon children's self-regulation and happiness. 3) The children's self-regulation had an influence upon children's happiness. 4) Between the parent's play participation and children's happiness were mediated by the children's playfulness and self-regulation. This study revealed that parent's play participation, children's playfulness and self-regulation need to be considered simultaneously to explain the level of the children's happiness. The results highlight the structural relationships among parent's play participation, children's playfulness, self-regulation and happiness.
This study of the characteristics and the relationships of children's emotional intelligence (EQ) and self-esteem had a sample of 1060 5th grade children. The rank order of four EQ factors from highest to lowest was "perception of emotion", "other-regulation and self-expression", "self-regulation and emotion utilization", and "empathy". Among self-esteem factors, "general self-worth" had the highest correlation with overall self-esteem; "physical appearance" was most strongly correlated with "general self-worth". Relationships between EQ and self-esteem showed that higher EQ was associated with higher self-esteem. Among EQ factors, "other-regulation and self-expression" was the strongest predictor of "behavioral conduct." The next strongest predictor of self-esteem among EQ factors was "self-regulation and utilization of emotion". Other self-esteem factors well predicted by EQ were "general self-worth", and "scholastic competence".
