Due to aging of the imported seismic monitoring system of Uljin 1&2 units it is difficult for this system to provide enough functions needed for the security of seismic safety and the evaluation of the earthquake data from the seismic instrumentation. For this reason, it is necessary to replace the seismic monitoring system of Uljin 1&2 units with an upgraded system with corresponding softwars. With operation of this system which incorporates the man-machine interface technology, the operators in nuclear power plant can rapidly and correctly determine the exceedance of Operating Basis Earthquake.

The grout-effect evaluation of the ground reinforcement technique, which has been widely applied to civil engineering and construction fields, is not established for the guidelines of choosing the efficient evaluation method, and in fact the experts have little effort to determine the reinforcement effect quantitatively. The evaluation of the grout was carried out by experiments on core specimen and drilling, which is impossible to evaluate grout-reinforcement effect quantitatively. This paper presents an example on verification of FRP grout-effect using geophysical prospecting on ground surface, which is 2D resistivity survey that easily visualize survey results with color graphics and seismic refraction method that interprets the subsurface seismic velocity structure.
Prior to modern seismic provisions, several bridges were not designed for seismic actions in moderate seismic areas. Precast multi-girder and slab bridges are typical highway overpass structures; they have a significant contribution to national bridge stocks. Since the seismic behavior is questionable, a preliminary parametric study is conducted to determine critical configurations and components. The results indicate that the behavior of the abutments, backfill soil, superstructure and foundation is normally satisfactory; however, the superstructure-abutment joints are critical for both single- and multi-span bridges, while the piers are also critical for longer multi-span configurations. The parametric results provide a solid basis both for detailed seismic assessment and development of design concepts of newly built structures in moderate seismic zones.

In this study, a ground motion response spectrum for the seismic risk assessment of low and intermediate level radioactive waste repositories was developed. For the development of the ground motion response spectrum, a probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) was performed. Through the performance of a PSHA, a seismic hazard curve which was based on a seismic bed rock was developed. A uniform hazard spectrum was determined by using a developed seismic hazard curve. Artificial seismic motions were developed based on the uniform hazard spectrum. A seismic response analysis was performed on the developed artificial seismic motion. Finally, an evaluation response spectrum for the seismic risk assessment analysis of low and intermediate level radioactive waste repositories was developed.
The seismic fragility curves of a structure represents the probability of exceeding the prescribed structural damage given various levels of ground motion intensityand the seismic fragility curve is essential to evaluation of structural performance and assessment of risk and loss of structures. The purpose of this paper is to develop seismic fragility functions for bridge structures in Koreaby reviewing those of advanced countries. Therefore, at first, we investigated development conditions of the seismic fragility functions. And the next highway bridges in Korea are classified into a number of categories and several typical bridges are selected to estimate seismic fragilities for using this analysis method in Korea. Finally, fragility curves for PSC Box girder bridge are estimated. The results show that the bridge classification and damage state play an important role in estimation of seismic damage and seismic fragility analysis for bridge structures.
In Korea, the seismic design regulations was established since 1988 about regularity scale of structures. However, It was not established about seismic performance and evaluation method as the most existing buildings was constructed before Earthquake-Resistant Design(1988). In this study, for model structures which are 4 units of non-seismic designed apartment and 3 units of seismic designed in Korea performed seismic performance evaluation by suggested KISTC (2004). And the result compare to evaluate Capacity Spectrum Method by using MIDAS Gen and SDS. As a result, we observed that suggested KISTC's method have overestimated for shear stress and drift index. The purpose of this study provides most conformity seismic performance evaluation process and the appropriate method of calculating the seismic performance index in Korea.
Earthquakes are reported thai building structures have been colossal damaged, but before 1988 designed structures which were not applicate seismic design code have no seismic performance. Especially, for the apartment structures were indicated that it have no resist wall element of earthquake before 1988 designed structures. We have to evaluate for seismic performance this structures, therefore it will be retrofitted for seismic index sufficient structures. We performed seismic performance evaluation for model structures by MIDAS which is general structure analysis software. In this study, it was performed shaking table test to evaluate model structure which is reinforcement concrete and 5 floors for seismic performance index. We made specimens by similar's law and tested shaking table test. In the shaking table test it is not performed prototype model test because of space and equipment condition. So we had made scale-down model for 1/5 by similar's law. That's why it needs for the evaluation of performance. However, it is not possible to do an experiment of prototype owing to the shortage of space and the limit of an experimental instrument in the shaking table test. Then, modeling and reducing the part of prototype do the experiment. In this experiment a shaking table test is done and seismic performance of model structures is evaluated by using similitude laws for scale down specimen. As a result it is proved that non-seismic design structures need to retrofit since seismic performance shows life safe grade in 0.12g of an earthquake.
The seismic PSA is to probabilistically estimate the potential damage that a large earthquake will cause to a nuclear power plant. It integrates the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, seismic fragility analysis, and system analysis and is utilized to identify seismic vulnerability and improve seismic capacity of nuclear power plants. Recently, the seismic risk of domestic multi-unit nuclear power plant sites has been evaluated after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Gyeongju Earthquake in Korea. However, while the currently available methods for system analysis can derive basic required results of seismic PSA, they do not provide the detailed results required for the efficient improvement of seismic capacity. Therefore, for in-depth seismic risk evaluation, improved system analysis method for seismic PSA has become necessary. This study develops a system analysis method that is not only suitable for multi-unit seismic PSA but also provides risk information for the seismic capacity improvements. It will also contribute to the enhancement of the safety of nuclear power plants by identifying the seismic vulnerability using the detailed results of seismic PSA. In addition, this system analysis method can be applied to other external event PSAs, such as fire PSA and tsunami PSA, which require similar analysis.

Newmark-type deformation analysis has rarely been done in Korea due to the popularity of simple pseudo-static limit equilibrium analysis and detailed time-history FE/FD dynamic analysis. However, the Korean seismic dam design code updated in 2011 prescribes Newmark-type deformation analysis as a major dynamic analysis method for the seismic evaluation of fill dams. In addition, a design PGA for dynamic analysis is significantly increased in the code. This paper aims to study the seismic evaluation of four existing large fill dams through advanced FEM/Newmark-type deformation analyses for the artificial earthquake time histories with the design PGA of 0.22g. Dynamic soil properties obtained from in-situ geo-physical surveys are applied as input parameters. For the FEM/Newmark analyses, sensitivity analyses are performed to study the effects of input PGA and $G_{max}$ of shell zone on the Newmark deformation. As a result, in terms of deformation, four fill dams are proved to be reasonably safe under the PGA of 0.22g with yield coefficients of 0.136 to 0.187, which are highly resistant for extreme events. Sensitivity analysis as a function of PGA shows that $PGA_{30cm}$ (a limiting PGA to cause the 30 cm of Newmark permanent displacement on the critical slip surface) is a good indicator for seismic safety check. CFRD shows a higher seismic resistance than ECRD. Another sensitivity analysis shows that $G_{max}$ per depth does not significantly affect the site response characteristics, however lower $G_{max}$ profile causes larger Newmark deformation. Through this study, it is proved that the amplification of ground motion within the sliding mass and the location of critical slip surface are the dominant factors governing permanent displacements.
