Analysis of difference in elementary-school students' recognition on CS education according to CS education with application of Education Programing Tool (교육용 프로그래밍 도구 활용의 정보과학교육을 통한 초등학생의 정보과학에 대한 인식 분석)

  • Elementary information education is currently provided in accordance with the 2000 ICT educational guidelines. Although the focus of education has shifted from practical use to computer science since 2005, in which way academic education should be led isn't yet clear. The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of computer science education(CS education) by an education programming tool on school children's awareness of that education. The selected students received education about unplugged, scratch and robot programming, part of the computer science curriculum, in 12 sessions. As a result, there were significant differences between the experimental and control groups in all the variables that included attitude to computer science, interest in that, satisfaction level, self-efficacy and perception of the value of CS education. The findings of the study suggested that in CS education, the improvement of thinking faculty should take precedence over practical use of what's learned, which is expected to heighten the value of that education.

A Study on Digital Storytelling Based Programming Education (디지털 스토리텔링기반 프로그래밍 교육에 관한 연구)

  • This study conducted digital storytelling-based programing education targeting students at elementary school and analyzed educational significance as looking into perception on programing, making cognitive-affective assessments and having interviews. The results of the study are provided as follows. First, in terms of ex-post perception, from all the areas of fun, usefulness and ease of use, statistically significant differences were observed. It was also learned that female students have positive perception similar to male students. Second, the ex-ante and ex-post cognitive assessments came up with significant differences. Third, more affectively the class is developed, the number of students who would feel 'happiness' constantly increases. What the study has found there proves educational value of digital storytelling to programing education, and they will be used effectively as basic references for any relevant field to design measures for programing education of students at elementary school in the future.

The Effect of Flipped Learning on Learning Motivation in Software Education (플립러닝이 소프트웨어 교육의 학습동기에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this paper is to prove the effect of flipped learning on learning motivation in software education. For this study, the experiment was consisted of experimental group and control group for university of education. They learned software education using Scratch programming for 10 weeks. The experimental group was applied to the flipped learning with online software courses. As a result, post motivation in the experimental group was significantly increased compared to the pre learning motivation. Post- learning motivation is also the experimental group were higher learning motivation significantly compared to the control group. It is hoped this flipped learning as an effective learning strategies base expansion in primary and secondary education as well as high education teaching software in the future.

  • At the beginning of the discussion of AI education in K-12 education, the study was conducted to develop and apply an AI education program based on Design Thinking and analyze the effects of the AI education programs. In the AI education program, students explored and defined the AI problems they were interested in, gathered the necessary data to build an AI model, and then developed a project using scratch. In order to analyze the effectiveness of the AI education program, the change of learner's perception of the value of AI and the change of AI efficacy were analyzed. The overall perception of the AI project was also analyzed. As a result, AI efficacy was significantly increased through the experience of carrying out the project according to the Design Thinking process. In addition, the efficacy of solving problems with AI was influenced by the level of use of programming languages. The learner's overall perception of the AI project was positive, and the perceptions of each stage of the AI project (AI problem understanding and problem exploration, practice, problem definition, problem solving idea implementation, evaluation and presentation) was also positive. This positive perception was higher among students with high level of programming language use. Based on these results, the implications for AI education were suggested.

  • Research on software education and linking and convergence of other subjects has been mainly focused on mathematics and science subjects. The dissatisfaction of various preferences and types of learning personality cause to learning gap. In addition, it is not desirable considering the solution of various fusion problems that can apply the computational thinking. In this way, it is possible to embrace the diverse tendencies and preferences of students through the linkage with the English subject, which is a linguistic approach that deviates from the existing mathematical and scientific approach. By combining similarities in the process of learning a new language of English education and software education. For this purpose, based on the analysis of teaching - learning model of elementary English subject and software education, we developed a class model by modifying existing English subject and software teaching - learning model to be suitable for linkage. Then, the learning elements applicable to software education were extracted from the contents of elementary school English curriculum, and a program applied to the developed classroom model was designed and the practical application method of learning was searched.

  • Startup in the aging society is much harder than finding employment. However, we did an experimental research that the elderly are able to develop in the field of IoT via this education. Through this IT startup education, those people who can do develop and implement and they are able to start new business by develop new item. Installing education between hardware and software about Arduino and Scratch's methods have great effect on IT startup education for the elderly before solving problem which have existing programming education. While the IT startup education through IoT is more difficult subject compared to general education subject, this paper shows an easily accessible research outcome for the elderly through startup education. This paper proved that practical uses through the results.

Development of K-$Touch^{TM}$ API for kinesthetic/tactile haptic interaction (역/촉감 햅틱 상호작용을 위한 "K-$Touch^{TM}$" API 개발 - 햅틱(Haptic) 개발자 및 응용분야를 위한 소프트웨어 인터페이스 -)

  • This paper presents a development of new haptic API (Application Programming Interface) that is called K-$Touch^{TM}$ haptic API. It is designed in order to allow users to interact with objects by kinesthetic and tactile modalities through haptic interfaces. The K-$Touch^{TM}$ API would serve two different types of users: high level programmers who need an easy to use haptic API for creating haptic applications and researchers in the haptic filed who need to experiment or develop with new devices and new algorithms while not wanting to re-write all the required code from scratch. Since the graphic hardware based kinesthetic rendering algorithm implemented in the K-$Touch^{TM}$ API is different from any other conventional kinesthetic algorithms, this API can provide users with haptic interaction for various data representations such as 2D, 2.5D depth(height field), 3D polygon, and volume data. In addition, this API supports kinesthetic and tactile interaction simultaneously in order to allow users with realistic haptic interaction. With a wide range of applicative characteristics, therefore, it is expected that the proposed K-$Touch^{TM}$ haptic API will assists to have deeper recognition of the environments, and enhance a sense of immersion in environments. Moreover, it will be useful development toolkit to investigate new devices and algorithms in the haptic research field.

  • Gamification can be more fun and interesting than boring and it can be used for variety of educational subjects. Through the fun and flow of the learner, the learner understands the meaning and context of the problem to be solved. It will be able to collect, analyze and creatively solve data in a way that computers understand. Training through gamification will be an effective and memorable coding education for the efficient learning of coding education among the newly designated compulsory education. It is considered to be highly useful as a convergence study to increase tourism experience. Currently, in the field of school, coding education is mainly conducted using entry and scratch, which are educational programming languages, and coding education using gamification is not extensively used in the current education field. It is also expected to be used to increase the tourism experience, and it can be used to enhance the learner's computational thinking ability and creativity.
