Probabilistic-based prediction of lifetime performance of RC bridges subject to maintenance interventions

  • In this paper, a probabilistic- and finite element-based approach to evaluate and predict the lifetime performance of reinforced concrete (RC) bridges undergoing various maintenance actions is proposed with the time-variant system reliability being utilized as a performance indicator. Depending on their structural state during the degradation process, the classical maintenance actions for RC bridges are firstly categorized into four types: Preventive type I, Preventive type II, Strengthening and Replacement. Preventive type I is used to delay the onset of steel corrosion, Preventive type II can suppress the corrosion process of reinforcing steel, Strengthening is the application of various maintenance materials to improve the structural performance and Replacement is performed to restore the individual components or overall structure to their original conditions. The quantitative influence of these maintenance types on structural performance is investigated and the respective analysis modules are written and inputted into the computer program. Accordingly, the time-variant system reliability can be calculated by the use of Monte Carlo simulations and the updated the program. Finally, an existing RC continuous bridge located in Shanghai, China, is used as an illustrative example and the lifetime structural performance with and without each of the maintenance types are discussed. It is felt that the proposed approach can be applied to various RC bridges with different structural configurations, construction methods and environmental conditions.

  • Silver-containing antimicrobial inorganic pigments that have been developed so far still have problems, which result from silver's unique metallic color and discoloration. Therefore, those things are used only for make-up cosmetics or just the restricted amount is used. Although the use of white-base pigments or iron oxides has been considered to solve those problems, they virtually fail to serve as a perfect substitute. So it seems difficult to use enough quantity of those materials or to apply them to diverse kinds of products. The purpose of this study was, accordingly, to attain the complete removal of metallic color and the maintenance of color. Additionally, a rosemary extract was employed to develop a silver-containing inorganic antimicrobial pigment(Ag-AIP-R) that has an improved antimicrobial effect and anti oxidative effect.

  • 과학데이터는 사실, 관찰, 이미지, 컴퓨터프로그램결과, 기록, 측량 또는 경험(논거, 이론, 테스트 또는 가설 또는 기타 연구물에 기초한)의 형태에서 생성되는 데이터를 의미한다. 연구패러다임이 데이터 중심의 연계 융합연구로 전환되면서 이러한 과학데이터에 대한 중요성과 그 가치는 매우 높아지고 있다. 과학데이터가 창의적인 연구개발을 위해 효율적으로 재사용될 수 있기 위해서는 공유와 활용을 위한 관리체계의 구축이 필수적이다. 과학데이터의 공유와 활용을 위한 관리체제의 구축은 국가적 차원에서 이루어져야 하지만, 우리나라의 경우 관리체제의 수준은 호주, 미국, 중국 또는 유럽에 비해서 연계성으로나 효율성으로나 내실을 기하지 못하고 있다. 호주, 미국, 중국 등은 국가차원에서 관련 기관을 통해 과학데이터를 수집, 관리 및 유지하는 등 데이터 활용을 적극적으로 추진하기 위하여 중장기적인 정책수립, 법제도 정비, 기반시설에 대한 투자를 지속적으로 확대하고 있다. 본 연구는 효율적이고 공정한 과학데이터의 공유 및 활용을 위한 국가적인 관리체계구축 및 이를 뒷받침할 수 있는 법제도를 정비함에 있어서 해외 관련 입법례 및 정책동향에 관하여 살펴보고, 향후 우리나라의 대응방안을 제시하였다.

시뮬레이션과 BPR을 응용한 Layout 기반의 철도차량기지 중정비 검수 여유율 검증 (A Study on the Verification of Heavy Overhaul Maintenance Allowances for the Maintenance Shop)

  • 철도차량기지 중정비 공장의 규모를 설계할 때 최소 부지에 시설을 배치하여 검수효율을 향상시킬 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 중정비 공장 규모 산정 시에 적용되는 운행과 검수의 파동요인을 고려한 파동율(이하 "여유율")이 국내에서 아직 검증되지 않은 채 활용되는 외적인 요인을 중정비공장내 재장시간으로 흡수하기 위해 시설배치도 및 공정 작업의 시뮬레이션 분석에 의하여 합리적인 여유율을 산출하고 그 적정성을 검토하고자 한다. 본 연구는 공정의 작업시간이 평균값으로 되어있어 작업자 간의 편차를 고려, 공정작업시간에 표준편차를 10~20%로 주어 각각의 경우별로 시뮬레이션 결과치를 분석하여 가능 여유율을 도출하였다. 향후에는 차량의 운영 및 검수계획, 차량 예비율 및 중정비 공장의 설비능력, 공정외주비율, 표준인공 등 운영조건 등의 인자를 고려하여 과학적인 검토를 통해 적정 여유율을 적용함으로서 공장 규모를 최적화 할 필요가 있다.

ICT 융합 지자체 교량 유지관리 시스템개발 (Development of Information & Communications Technologies Merged Municipal Government Bridge Maintenance System)

  • 지자체에서 관리하는 교량에 대해서 과학적이고 체계적인 유지관리 표준안과 정량화된 데이터기반을 통한 예산확보 및 집행의 과학화를 위해 지자체관리용 교량 유지관리시스템이 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구는 지자체에서 유지관리하고 있는 소규모 교량의 효율적인 관리를 위한 시스템 개발을 목표로 하며 BIM/GIS기술 등의 ICT융합기술을 사용하였다. 시스템개발의 세부내용으로는 모바일 기기용 소규모 교량 유지관리 프로그램 개발, 소규모 교량 유지관리 데이터베이스 개발, 소규모 교량 통합유지관리 개발이며 지자체에서 관리하는 소규모 교량의 테스트베드 구축 및 운영내용을 확인하여 개발한 프로그램 시스템의 신뢰성을 얻었다. 개발된 프로그램 시스템을 무전원방식의 교량 스마트 명판제작 및 Reader모듈 개발로 연계하였다.

Damage assessment of structures - an US air force office of scientific research structural mechanics perspective

  • This paper presents the perspective of the Structural Mechanics program of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) on the damage assessment of structures for the period 2006-2009 when the author was serving as Program Manager at AFOSR. It is found that damage assessment of structures plays a very important role in assuring the safety and operational readiness of US Air Force fleet. The current fleet has many aging aircraft, which poses a considerable challenge for the operators and maintainers. The nondestructive evaluation technology is rather mature and able to detect damage with considerable reliability during the periodic maintenance inspections. The emerging structural health monitoring methodology has great potential, because it will use on-board damage detection sensors and systems, will be able to offer on-demand structural health bulletins. Considerable fundamental and applied research is still needed to enable the development, implementation, and dissemination of structural health monitoring technology.

  • In this study, developed economical and scientific Pavement Management System(PMS) that can produce suitable maintenance method through judgement and analysis of pavement condition exactly, to overcome past unscientific pavement management limitations. First, on the basis of data of the inside and outside of the country on PMS, composed logical algorithm such as pavement condition investigation and analysis, detailed naked eye investigation, whole system estimation etc., and it verified that this algorithm is suitable system through the inside and outside of the country PMS research examples and results of detailed naked eye investigation. Also, developed easily usable PMS program and PMS_GIS program with such logical algorithm.

  • In this study, Pavement Management System(PMS) was developed to overcome the unscientific pavement management limitations of the past. PMS program is economic, efficient and scientific. Also, it produces the best maintenance method through exact judgement and logical analysis of pavement condition. First of all, the logical algorithm, that is such as investigation and analysis of pavement, detailed naked eye investigation and the estimation for whole system etc., was composed on the basis of the domestic and the outside data on PMS and pavement condition data of Seoul metropolitan. And then it was verified that this algorithm is suitable through the research examples of PMS data and the results of detailed naked eye investigation. Also, Geographic Information System(GIS) was integrated on PMS program. Therefore, PMS program was developed so as to use easily on the basis of the logical algorithm.

  • This study to providing scientific information that can help the management staff in apartment house. For the purpose of this study, questionaire depends on the consultation of concerned reference and by direct interview with chief of management-office. It composed to question in order to residant's satisfaction and demand of management Question are were administered to 279 APT. residants living in Seoul, Pusan and Ulsan. Data were analized by the SPSS+PC. The statistics used were frequency, mean, X2, principal component analysis. The major findings obtained from this stuby are as follows: First, the work of the domestic apartment house was classified into two types: 1) administration management 2) maintenance managementSecond, in the case of maintenance management, residants' satisfaction is higher to higher residants' demand.
