AHP기법을 이용한 상용여객의 항공사 선택의 평가기준에 관한 연구 (On the Application of AHP to the evaluation criteria of business travellers for choosing airline)

  • 무형의 서비스상품이 거래되는 항공운송시장은 일반 제조산업과 달리 이미 1980년초부터 글로벌 시장을 형성해 오고 있는 동질적 단일경쟁시장의 특성을 지니고 있다. 특히 우리나라는 1988년 여행자유화 조치와 이후 지속된 복수 민항체제와 시장개발조치 등으로 인해 수요증가와 함께 소비자 선택의 폭이 매우 다양해 졌다. 본 연구에서는 항공여객의 서비스상품 선택시 중요한 요소로 간주되어 온 평가기준을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석방법으로는 최근 사회과학 연구에서 폭넓게 이용되고 있는 계층화 의사결정(AHP)기법을 이용하였으며, 실증결과 상용여객들의 항공사 선택시 우선적으로 고려되는 평가요소들이 기대했던대로 유의적인 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, 항공사 선택의 평가 상위 기준으로 스케줄 관련사항과 기내서비스가 매우 높은 평가를 받았는데 항공사는 자사의 상품구성에 있어서 이 부분을 심도있게 고려해야 할 것이다. 둘째, 하위기준 중에서는 기내승무원의 태도와 외모, 기내식, 기내음악 및 영화의 다양성 및 품질수준, 좌석확보 가능성, 항공사의 명성, 과거의 탑승경험의 순으로 중요도가 평가되었다. 셋째, 대안에 대한 평가에 있어서는 각 노선에서 모두 K항공사가 가장 높은 중요도를 기록하고 있다. 특히 스케줄 관련사항과 상용고객 우대프로그램에서 매우 높은 선호도를 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

항공사 비정상 운항 복구를 위한 리-타이밍 전략과 개미군집최적화 알고리즘 적용 (Airline Disruption Management Using Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm with Re-timing Strategy)

  • Airline schedules are highly dependent on various factors of uncertainties such as unfavorable weather conditions, mechanical problems, natural disaster, airport congestion, and strikes. If the schedules are not properly managed to cope with such disturbances, the operational cost and performance are severely affected by the delays, cancelations, and so forth. This is described as a disruption. When the disruption occurs, the airline requires the feasible recovery plan returning to the normal operations in a timely manner so as to minimize the cost and impact of disruptions. In this research, an Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm with re-timing strategy is developed to solve the recovery problem for both aircraft and passenger. The problem consists of creating new aircraft routes and passenger itineraries to produce a feasible schedule during a recovery period. The suggested algorithm is based on an existing ACO algorithm that aims to reflect all the downstream effects by considering the passenger recovery cost as a part of the objective function value. This algorithm is complemented by re-timing strategy to effectively manage the disrupted passengers by allowing delays even on some of undisrupted flights. The delays no more than 15 minutes are accepted, which does not influence on the on-time performance of the airlines. The suggested method is tested on the real data sets from 2009 ROADEF Challenge, and the computational results are compared with the existing ones on the same data sets. The method generates the solution for most of problem set in 10 minutes, and the result generated by re-timing strategy is discussed for its impact.

저가항공사의 유동적 요금 전략이 소비자의 가격공정성 지각에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Low Cost Airline's Flexible Fare Policy on Consumers' Perceptions of Price Fairness)

  • Purpose - The purpose of the study is to reexamine the price fairness as practiced by low cost airlines, as a consumer has to experience such inconveniences as inferior airport transportation, extra fees on in-flight meals, and non-negotiable seats, and consumers evaluate such experiences keeping in mind their total costs. This evaluation includes price fairness and allows a reasonable and overall consideration of factors of low cost airlines. It tries to set up a measurement of the indicators consumers' perceptions of price fairness academically as it adapts price fairness to airline services which are renowned for price volatility. Research design, data, and methodology - The research proposes an alternative pricing strategy for the long term profit of low cost airlines after going over conflicts between the traditional theory of consumers' price perception mechanism and flexible fair policy of low cost airlines. It was meaningful when it relates to the early stage of the business, while it enhances the risks relating to the long term survival of low cost airlines. In addition, it is significant as it highlights the negative influences on consumers' perceptions of price fairness, as low cost airlines run on extremely low cost perspectives. Results - The results of the research provide insight into four perspectives, as consumers' perceptions of price fairness are influenced by the frequency and range of price changes and services. The first perspective is that it would lead to positive price evaluation when a low cost airline cuts prices frequently with little changes than one big change. It also would lead to the same result when it comes to necessary services. The second perspective is that one big increase of price would rather undermine the negative aspects of price changes than those of several smaller ones. The third perspective is that additional services would be good to consumers' perceptions of price fairness as compared to discount benefits with respect to the cost. Finally, a low cost airline should consider that consumers will change airlines or defer their flight schedule if the flight fares increase beyond their limits. Conclusions - Low cost airlines should reconsider their pricing policies for services that were provided free earlier. A consumer would not like discount benefits when made to pay for services that were, for long, free of charge. If a low cost airline can provide services with no charge, it should improve volumes if the costs are standardized and, moreover, should consider the charging fees. Alternatively, a consumer can choose between services and fair discount. Low cost airlines are implementing sales promotion strategies, as the competition is more intense than it used to be. In these days, they should regard services over sales promotion, as consumers may prefer to spend money on good premium services. Some differentiation in services could create a good market position for the airlines and, hence, good financial performance.

허브공항의 환승연계성 분석연구(인천국제공항을 대상으로) (An Analysis for Transferring Connectivity at Incheon international Airport)

  • 인천국제공항이 개항 5주년을 맞이하는 시점에서 허브공항으로서 충분한 요건을 갖추었는지 그리고 공항의 환승에 대한 연계성이 다른 허브공항과 비교하였을 때 어느 정도의 수준에 있는지를 평가 및 분석하기 위한 목적으로 본 연구를 수행하였다. 환승연계성을 분석하기 위하여 2가지 방법을 사용하였다. 첫 번째 적용한 방법으로는 웨이브(wave) 구조로서. 항공스케줄과 관련하여 도착과 출발에 따른 시간적 집중도를 분석하여 환승연계성을 측정하는 것으로서 허브공항으로서의 특징, 즉 공간적인 측면과 시간적인 측면 중 시간적인 측면을 분석하는 데 유용하다. 두 번째로는 시간에 관한 부분으로서 최소연결시간과 최대연결시간에 대하여 대한항공의 자료를 활용하여 실증 분석하였다.

  • 최근 항공 여객시장이 코로나-19의 장기화로 인해 사상 초유의 위기를 겪고 있는 가운데 광주공항과 무안국제공항은 2021년 통합을 앞두고 공항의 여객수요 창출을 위한 공항 활성화 방안이 필요한 시점이다. 이에 본 연구는 양 공항의 이용객을 대상으로 중요도-만족도, 중요도-전반적 만족도에 대한 실증연구를 통해 전략적 마케팅방안을 도출했다. 연구결과 '상업시설 구비 및 다양성', '휴게시설 구비 및 쾌적성', '교통약자 편의시설', '최첨단 시설', '운항노선의 다양성'의 경우 시급한 개선과 투자가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 통합을 앞둔 광주-무안국제공항을 대상으로 두 개의 IPA 모델의 비교연구를 통해 보다 실질적이고 의미 있는 마케팅 방안을 제시했다는데 학문적·실무적 의의가 있다.

인천국제공항에서 환승하는 중국인.일본인의 환승만족도에 대한 차이분석 (A Comparative Study of Satisfaction of Chinese and Japanese Transit Passengers at Incheon International Airport)

  • This paper tried to find out what the main factors are to impact on satisfaction level of transit passengers at Incheon airport. Incheon airport has made lots of transit facilities and services to attract transit passengers from neighboring airports to increase transit rate as high as advanced foreign airports such as Heathrow, Schiphol and Hong Kong. A survey was performed on 450 transit passengers resting at airport transit lounge in airside area. According to the result, it was found out to be significant factors affecting satisfaction of transit that convenience of security screening, price of duty-free product, a direction board & signage and terminal orientation among Chinese transit passengers. On the other hands, it seemed that Japanese transit passengers thought diversity of airline routes, convenient transfer flight schedule, total transit time and terminal orientation are major variables affecting their satisfaction. Considering the effect of demographic factors, Chinese passenger's satisfaction was more affected by age, travel purpose, the number of travel per year and flight destinations. However, Japanese transit passenger's satisfaction was only affected by the flight destinations, especially willing to travel to North America and Europe.

항공기 청소 노동자의 작업 만족도 및 유해인자 조사 (Investigation of Job Satisfaction and Hazardous Factors of Aircraft Cleaning Worker)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to improve the working environment by identifying the work satisfaction of the cleaning workers of the aircraft and measuring and assessing the harmful factors of the cleaning process. Methods: We asked 23 cleaning companies for questionnaires and got 100 answers from 5 companies. The A-E Airline health manager has been contacted to establish a site survey schedule. The in-flight and lounge were measured using direct reading equipment. The harmful factor to be measured are noise, dust, temperature, volatile organic compound, total airborne bacteria, and total airborne bacteria. Results: Uncomfortable positions when replacing blanket, cleaning the table, and cleaning the floor have been identified as factor that reduce work satisfaction. Noise when replacing newspapers and cleaning toilets has been identified as a factor that lowers work satisfaction. Temperature and humidity were found to reduce work satisfaction during in-flight disinfection. Measurements of aircraft cabin and lounge with direct read equipment have shown that none of the items exceed the exposure criteria. Conclusions: As a result of measuring direct-reading equipment, no items exceeded the exposure criteria for each harmful factor. A clear survey of the working environment is required based on the results, and additional research is needed using personal sample measurement.

외부요인으로 인한 업무 공백이 조종사의 스트레스 수준에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Furlough Caused by External Factors on the Pilot's Stress Index)

  • Recently, the issue of maintaining pilot competency has emerged as one of the major challenges in the aviation industry due to irregular schedules and flight intervals caused by the global COVID-19. Therefore, a survey was conducted on airline pilots to determine how stressed they would be when returning to their flights after experiencing irregular schedules or long-term furloughs. The level of stress that pilots receive due to flight intervals was divided into periods, and correlation with general characteristics was identified to see what emotional burdens exist as the lengths of flight interval increased. As a result, burdened flight intervals and the Pilot Flying(PF) intervals were identified as a statistically significant variables. In the case of the Pilot Flying interval, the level of stress was confirmed to be worse as the flying interval was elongated, and in the case of the burdened flying interval, the tendency of the stress index were lower as the period increased. Through this study, pilots who experienced reduced flight times were found to be accompanied by considerable amount of emotional burden proportionate to the length of the interval period.

A Study on Network Construction Strategies for Long-Haul Low-Cost Carrier Operations

  • Purpose - This study aims to analyze the characteristics of network construction by Norwegian Air and AirAsia X, which are recognized as leading airlines in the long-haul LCC market. Based on this analysis, this study intends to provide implications for networking strategies for Korean LCCs that seek to enter the long-haul market when the aviation market stabilizes again upon the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology - To conduct the network analysis on long-haul low-cost airlines, the Official Airline Guide (OAG) Schedule Analyzer was used to extract long-haul data of Norwegian Air and AirAsia X. To analyze the trend of the long-haul route network, we obtained the data from 3 separate years between 2011 and 2019. The network was analyzed using UCINET 6.0 in order to examine the network structure of long-haul low-cost airlines and the growth trend of each stage. Findings - Analyzing the network of long-haul routes by visualizing the network structure of low-cost carriers showed the following results. In its early years, Norwegian Air's long-haul route network, centering on regional airports in Spain and Sweden, connected European regions, the Middle East, and Africa. As time passed, however, the network expanded and became steadily strong as the airline connected airports in other European countries to North America and Asia. In addition, in 2011, AirAsia X showed links to parts of Europe, such as London and Paris, the Middle East and India, and Australia and Northeast Asia, centering on the Kuala Lumpur Airport. Although the routes in Europe were suspended, the network continued to expand while concentrating on routes of less than approximately 7,000 km. It was found that instead of giving up on ultra-long-haul routes such as Europe, the network was further expanded in Northeast Asia, such as the routes in Korea and Japan centering on China. Originality/value - Until the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Norwegian Air actively expanded long-haul routes, resulting in the number of long-haul routes quintupling since 2011. The unfortunate circumstance, wherein the world aviation market was rendered stagnant due to the outbreak of COVID-19, hit Norwegian Air harder than any other low-cost carriers. However, in the case of AirAsia X, it was found that it did not suffer as much damage as Norwegian Air because it initially withdrew from unprofitable routes over 7,000 km and grew by gradually increasing profitable destinations over shorter distances. When the COVID-19 pandemic ends and the aviation market stabilizes, low-cost carriers around the world, including Korea, that enter the long-haul route market will need to employ strategies to analyze the marketability of potential routes and to launch the routes that yield the highest profits without being bound by distance. For stable growth, it is necessary to take a conservative stance; first, by reviewing the business feasibility of the operating a small number of highly profitable routes, and second, by gradually expanding these routes.

인천국제공항의 환적화물에 대한 연계성 분석 연구 (Analyzing the Airfreight Transshipment Connectivity at Incheon Airport)

  • 1978년 미국 내 항공시장의 규제완화와 함께 항공은 허브-앤-스포크 시스템(hub-and-spoke system)의 형태로 재구성되었다. 항공의 확장성을 중점적으로 고려할 때, 허브-앤-스포크의 활용은 여객의 환승이나 화물의 환적에 있어서 어느 정도의 이점이 존재한다는 것이 일반적인 견해이다. 또한 국가 차원으로 볼 때, 허브-앤-스포크를 통해 공항의 활성화 및 노선에 따른 밀도의 경제를 실현하도록 허브공항을 개발하는 정책적 지원의 동기가 될 수도 있다. 기존 선행연구들은 대다수 항공여객에 대한 연구들로 집중되어 왔으나 항공환적화물에 대한 연구는 그 수가 상대적으로 적게 나타났다. 이에 본 연구에서는 인천국제공항을 대상으로 하여 항공화물의 환적연계성에 대한 분석을 통해 허브-앤-스포크 상에서 과연 허브공항으로서의 기능과 성과를 수행하고 있는지를 측정코자 하였다. 이를 위한 연구의 범위는 인천국제공항을 통해 환적 되는 항공화물을 대상으로 하며, 개설 가능한 환적노선인 직항연결 및 우회연결(Direct and Indirect Connection)로 한정하였다. 인천국제공항을 기반으로 한 항공화물의 환적연계성을 분석하기 위해 인천국제공항과 연결된 공항들의 노선 수나 연결시간 등을 기준으로 하여 직항연결과 우회연결의 품질을 평가하는 방식으로 취하였다. 이를 위해 공항의 웨이브-시스템 구조를 분석하여 활용하는 NETSCAN 모델을 적용하였다.
