We have investigated the contribution of the scattered x rays to the signal imaging in the radiographs acquired with anti-scatter grids of several grid ratios by separating the line spread functions (LSFs) derived from the signal edge image into the primary and the scatter components. By using a 1.0-mm lead plate in the scattering material, the blurred signal edge images were acquired by use of an imaging plate at a tube voltage of 80 kV with the anti-scatter grids of grid ratios for 5:1, 6:1, 8:1, 10:1 and 12:1. The edge profiles of the signal images were scanned and those in relative exposure were differentiated to obtain the LSFs. To investigate the contribution of the scattered x rays to the signal imaging, we proposed a method for separating the LSFs derived from the signal images into the primary and the scatter components, where the scatter component was approximated with exponential function. Our basic approach is to separate the area of the LSFs by ratios of the scattered x-ray exposure to the primary x-ray exposure, which were obtained for the grid ratios by use of a lead disk method. The LSFs and the two components were Fourier transformed to obtain the modulation transfer functions (MTFs) and their two components. As the result, we found that, by using the anti-scatter grids, the scattered x rays were reduced, but the shape of the LSFs of the scatter component hardly changed. The contributions of the scatter component to the MTFs were not negligible (more than 10 %) for spatial frequencies lower than about 1.0 mm$\^$-l/ and that was greater as the grid ratio decreasing. On the other hand, for higher frequencies, the primary component was dominant compared with the scatter component.
This study aims to examine the generation of scatter rays by dividing it into the presence of the subject at the chest X-ray examination, the X-ray tube and detector in the X-ray room, the front of the patient window, the outside of the entrance door of the patient waiting room, opening of the entrance door, the outside of the radiological technologist's entrance door, and the opening of the radiological technologist's entrance door, etc. When there is a subject, as the subject is thicker, more scatter rays occur at each of the spots for measurement. And when the entrance door is closed at the measurement, fewer scatter rays are generated.
Background: X-ray imaging detectors for the nondestructive cargo container inspection using MeV-energy X-rays should accurately portray the internal structure of the irradiated container. Internal and external factors can cause noise, affecting image quality, and scattered radiation is the greatest source of noise. To obtain a high-performance transmission image, the influence of scattered radiation must be minimized, and this can be accomplished through several methods. The scatter rejection method using an anti-scatter grid is the preferred method to reduce the impact of scattered radiation. In this paper, we present an evaluation the characteristics of the signal and noise according to physical and material changes in the anti-scatter grid of the imaging detector used in cargo container scanners. Materials and Methods: We evaluated the characteristics of the signal and noise according to changes in the grid ratio and the material of the anti-scatter grid in an X-ray image detector using MCNP6. The grid was composed of iron, lead, or tungsten, and the grid ratio was set to 2.5, 12.5, 25, or 37.5. X-ray spectrum sources for simulation were generated by 6- and 9-MeV electron impacts on the tungsten target using MCNP6. The object in the simulation was designed using metallic material of various thicknesses inside the steel container. Using the results of the computational simulation, we calculated the change in the scatter-to-primary ratio and the signal-to-noise ratio improvement factor according to the grid ratio and the grid material, respectively. Results and Discussion: Changing the grid ratios of the anti-scatter grid and the grid material decreased the scatter linearly, affecting the signal-to-noise ratio. Conclusion: The grid ratio and material of the anti-scatter grid affected the response characteristics of a container scanner using high-energy X-rays, but to a minimal extent; thus, it may not be practically effective to incorporate anti-scatter grids into container scanners.

We proposed the two-dimensional (2D) / three-dimensional (3D) convertible modified integral imaging system using functional polarizing film named $imazer^{TM}$, which transfer or scatter the incident light ray according to the polarizing direction of ray. When the incident light rays transfer to $imazer^{TM}$, the rays generate 3D image through the process of the modified integral imaging system. However, the scattered light rays generate 2D image through the simple backlight scheme when the incident rays are scattered by the film. The proposed method can be implemented the partial 3D display system without any mechanical movements. In this paper, we propose and verify our system using some basic experiments and its results.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the scattered x-rays on the subject contrast and image sharpness for various tube voltages. For the purpose, we measured the scatter-to-primary ratio(SPR) for the tube voltages f 50 to 100kV and obtained the tube voltage dependence of the subject contrast of an aluminum plate in a polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA) phantom. Furthermore, the overall modulation transfer functions(MTFs), which consist of MTFs of a screen-film system and scatter FTMs, were obtained for tube voltages of 50 to 100 kV. The subject contrast decreased with the tube voltage due to that the SPR increased with the tube voltage and that the difference in effective linear attenuation coefficients between the object and its surroundings decreased with the tube voltage. The maximum frequency of the overall MTF decreased from about 2 mm$\^$-1/ to 1 mm$\^$-1/ with the tube voltage increasing from 50 to 100 kV.
This paper studied a C-arm's exposure condition and measured scatter rays by thickness and distance. This study reached the following conclusion. 1. Approrimately exposure dose for a patient using fluoroscopy is as follows : 2. Mostly, an operating room was not shielding by lead and operator put on only apron without thyroid and facial part protection. 3. 0.5 mmPb equivalent's apron shielded about 99% of scattered rays at 60 cm from x-ray tube. 4. Scattered rays are depended on distance and thickness so operators are should be careful when using fluoroscopy by C-arm and if possible use high frequency equipment that has a large output.
This study extracts characteristics of signal by wavelet transform to prove that the Compton scattering, occurred by changed the energy, influenced a picture. We also analyzed the extracted data and evaluated how much the picture of scatter-rays was affected by a change of tube voltage. For this study, we wrote a program with MatLap which is engineering tool and evaluated with the program on variation of scattered-rays due to increased tube voltage. The evaluation result shows both CR and DR have frequency changes of high frequency area by tube voltage variations and it proved that Compton scattering influences the picture. In conclusion, according to this study indicates that DR is more sensitive to radiation with high energy than CR. Therefore, the research on DR detector needs to be advanced as actual condition of clinical setting is being changed to DR circumstance gradually. From the result of this study, we expect that assessment method of the image quality using MatLab Tool becomes the official assessment method and very useful method.
Scattered radiation is inherent phenomenon of x-ray, which occurs to the subject (or patient). Therefore it cannot be avoidable but also interacts as serious noise factor because the only meaningful information on x-ray radiography is primary x-ray photons. The purpose of this study was to quantify scattered radiation for various shooting parameters and to verify the effect of anti-scatter grid. We employed beam stopper method to characterize scatter to primary ratio. To evaluate effect on the projection images calculated contrast to noise ratio of given shooting parameters. From the experiments, we identified the scattered radiation increases in thicker patient and smaller air gap. Moreover, scattered radiation degraded contrast to noise ratio of the projection images. We find out that the anti-scatter grid rejected scattered radiation effectively, however there were not fewer than 100% of scatter to primary ratio in some shooting parameters. The results demonstrate that the scattered radiation was serious problem of medical x-ray system, we confirmed that the scattered radiation was not considerable factor of dig ital radiog raphy.
Radiation causes radiation hazards in the human body. In Korea, a case of radiation necrosis occurred in 2014. In this study, the scatter and shielding efficiency according to lead shielding were classified into epidermis and dermis for 0.511 MeV used in nuclear medicine. In this study, experiments were conducted using the slab phantom that represents calibration and the dose of human trunk. Experimental results showed that the shielding rate of 0.25 mmPb was 180% in the epidermis and 96% in the dermis. Shielding at 0.5mmPb showed shielding rates of 158%in the epidermis and 82% in the dermis. As a result of measuring the absorbed dose by subdividing the thickness of the dermis into 0.5 mm intervals, when the shielding was carried out at 0.25 mmPb, the dose appeared to be about 120% at 0.5 mm of the dermis surface, and the dose was decreased at the subsequent depth. Shielding at 0.5 mmPb, the dose appeared to be about 101% at the surface 0.5 mm, and the dose was measured to decrease at the subsequent depth. This result suggests that when lead aprons are actually used, the scattering rays would be sufficiently removed due to the spaces generated by the clothes and air, Therefore, the scattered ray generated from lead will not reach the human body. The ICRU defines the epidermis (0.07), in which the radiation-induced damage of the skin occurs, as the dose equivalent. If the radiation dose of the dermis is considered in addition, it will be helpful for the evaluation of the prognosis for radiation hazard of the skin.

Purpose Generally, a collimator that installed in front of detector set a direction of gamma ray and remove a scatter ray. By the way, a lateral or oblique scatter ray is detected into crystal through collimator. At this study, we will evaluate a mount of count and spectrums of lateral scatter ray. Materials and Methods We used the SKY LITE (philips, netherlands) as a gamma camera, and $^{99m}Tc$, 1.11 GBq point source as a phantom. we put this point source at backside 50 cm of detector. After acquiring this for 1 min, we turned a detector next 10 degrees. Likely this, we acquired images at every 10 degrees from $0^{\circ}$ to $360^{\circ}$, analyzed images and spectrums. In case of patient study, we choose a 3 phase bone scan patient who had a hand disease, because scatter rays from body would detect on crystal. After acquiring blood flow and blood pool images, we analyzed images and spectrums. Additional, we put a lead gown on patient's hand, body. And then we compared and evaluated 3 type blood pool images (non lead gown, lead gown on a hand and on body). Results In case of phantom study, scatter ray counts at backside ($270^{\circ}-90^{\circ}$) are same with a background count. By the way, counts of scatter ray of oblique side ($0^{\circ}-50^{\circ}$, $220^{\circ}-270^{\circ}$) are 100-600 cps, furthermore, counts at frontside are over 4 Mcps. In case of patient study, a counts of hand blood pool scan are 1510 cps. But counts of hand with lead gown on hands and on body are each 1554 cps, 1299 cps. Conclusion Therefore, even though there is a collimator in front of detector, lateral scatter rays detect on crystal and affect to images and spectrums. Especially, if there is a high activity source at outside of detector when we examine low activity organs like hands or foot, we have to shield and remove the source at outside for a good image.
