  • This study examines the effects of coping resources on life satisfaction of middle and older caregivers looking after family members with activities of daily living disabilities. Personal resources and socio-relational resources were included as predictors after controlling for demographic characteristics. We studied 154 middle and 132 older adults drawn from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA). The multiple regression results of this study were as follows. First, subjective health and family satisfaction had significant effects on middle-aged caregivers' life satisfaction. Specifically higher levels of subjective health and better relationships with their family predicted higher levels of life satisfaction. Second, cognitive function, household income, and family satisfaction had significant effects on middle-aged caregivers' life satisfaction. Higher household incomes, higher levels of cognitive function, and better relationships with family predicted higher levels of life satisfaction. For both middle and older adults, the effect size of family satisfaction was the largest out of all coping resources. The results revealed discrepancies regarding the importance of coping resources between middle and older caregivers, implying that developing interventions for middle and older caregivers (in accordance with their need for coping resources) is necessary. The results also indicated that having good relationships with one's family was the most important factor for both middle aged and older caregivers' life satisfaction. The results suggest that policies or services focused on endorsing healthy family relationships should be developed to improve the life satisfaction of caregivers.

This study included community sample of 499 female baby boomers who were married and had at least one child. Participants reported lower levels of life satisfaction. A hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to investigate the effects of the following variables on the female baby boomers' life satisfaction: subjective health, educational level, monthly household income, employment status, perceived size of social network, participation in leisure organizations, participation in voluntary associations, satisfaction with children, and marital satisfaction. Except employment status and participation in leisure organizations, other 7 variables were significantly and positively associated with the life satisfaction of married female baby boomers. In particular, marital satisfaction had the strongest effect on life satisfaction, followed by satisfaction with children. • The purpose of this study was to describe the family life and relationships of national family center users in 2023. A sample of 1,086 adults was recruited from 48 family centers across South Korea. Participants, both online and offline, reported on various aspects of family life, including satisfaction, gender equality, work-home-life balance, family leisure, and internet usage for family and household purposes. Additionally, family relationships were explored in terms of dynamics with a spouse, children, and adult children. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests. In the family life domain, center users reported a high level of satisfaction, with women exhibiting greater awareness of gender equality and higher engagement in household chores than men. Furthermore, although a moderate balance among work, home, and life was reported, time emerged as a significant challenge for family leisure. Regarding technology, center users frequently utilized the internet for family communication, leisure, shopping, and household management. In the family relationships domain, men were more satisfied with spousal relationships than women. Center users reported high satisfaction with parent-child relationships. Parents of school-aged children perceived economic burdens, while those with adult children frequently provided psychological and instrumental support. These findings suggest the need for program modification and the development of new initiatives within national family centers to better support the diverse needs of families in terms of life satisfaction and relationship dynamics.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically test some hypotheses derived from the alliance model of the family, which focuses on theorizing situations in which family members simultaneously compete with other members within a family and rivals in society to maximize their statuses in the family and in society. Specifically, associations between wives' level of income relative to that of their husbands and each spouse's satisfaction with family relationships were examined, using the first wave of Korea Welfare Panel Study having been conducted in 2006 by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. The results of the analyses showed that three ones among four research hypotheses were supported. Wives' satisfaction with family relationships was negatively associated with their relative level of income. This pattern strongly appeared among wives from lower class families rather than among wives from middle/upper class families. Relationship between wives' relative level of income and husbands' satisfaction with family relationships was likely to be bi-directional among husbands from middle/upper class families. Unlike the author's expectation, however, this bi-directional relationship was not observed among husbands from lower class families.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of middle-aged men's family and work related variables and satisfaction. Based on the results of the study, the following was concluded ; First, there were significant differences in men's satisfaction across education level, economic variables, and occupation. Second, family related variables, work related variables, and work-family conflict were significantly correlated with satisfaction. In reference to family related variable, satisfaction was higher when marital satisfaction is good, parental stress, adult caring burden, and work-family conflict are lower. In reference to work related variables, satisfaction is higher when job stress is lower, job security is lower, and colleague relationship is good. Third, family related variables, work related variables, and work-family conflict were significantly correlated with mutually one another. Specifically, parental stress is correlated with work related variables. A higher correction was reported between work-family conflict and job stress. Finally, results of multiple regression analysis showed that these variable influenced middle-aged men's satisfaction. Moreover, the degree of explanation for satisfaction increased more, when family and work related variables, and work-family conflict add in individual character variables.

  • In this investigation of child's psychological wellbeing and parental satisfaction with dual income family(DIF), subjects were 297 3rd and 5th grade elementary school students and their mothers. Results showed that boys and younger children were more satisfied with mother's working than girls and older children. Mothers' DIF satisfaction was dependent on gross family income, parents' occupations, working conditions of each parent, commuter marriage status, and length of time in DIF. Child's psychological wellbeing related positively to mother's parental satisfaction, and to mother's satisfaction with parental roles, parent-child relationships, spouse support and child support. Only sub factors of dilemmas in parental role related negatively to DIF status. Child's satisfaction with mother's roles, father's roles, and mother working influenced mother's parental role satisfaction.

  • The aim of the present study is to investigate the structural relationships of organizational work-family support, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention among Korean hotel employees. In order to achieve the study goal, frequency analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and covariance structure analysis were undertaken using SPSS(18.0) and AMOS(18.0). The result shows that organizational work-family support has a significantly positive effect on job satisfaction and it also positively impacts on organizational commitment. However, it doesn't have any significant effect on turnover intention. This study also suggests that each of job satisfaction and organizational commitment has a significantly negative effect on turnover intention. Through the abovementioned results, we can find out that each of job satisfaction and organizational commitment can completely mediate the relationship between organizational work-family support and turnover intention.

  • Although not many older Korean parents who take care of children with intellectual disabilities have been reported depression due to care-giving related stresses, little is known about how they could be protected from this. This study examines whether satisfaction with family relationships moderate the relationships between time demands, caregiving stress, and depression of older parents who take care of children with intellectual disabilities. The analyses were conducted based on data from the Korean National Survey on Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and their Families of 2011, and only a total of 276 parents, aged over 60 were examined. Multiple regression analysis shows that older parents with higher level of satisfaction with family relationships were less likely to be influenced by time demands of care-giving. This indicates that satisfaction with family relationships could buffer the relationships between time demands of care-giving, and depression. This finding suggests that satisfaction with family relationships is a protective factor, buffering the negative effects of time demands of care-giving and depression. This supports 'socio-emotional selectivity theory' which family relationships are important to older people. Therefore, it is highly recommended to develop practical intervention that can improve the level of satisfaction of family relationship of the older parents, and to make policy and institutional supplementation.
