S100A12 and RAGE Expression in Human Bladder Transitional Cell Carcinoma: a Role for the Ligand/RAGE Axis in Tumor Progression?

  • Background: Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) and prostate cancer are the most frequent cancers in the male genitourinary tract. Measurement of biological biomarkers may facilitate clinical monitoring and aid early diagnosis of TCC. The aim of the present investigation was to detect the mRNA levels of S100A12 and RAGE (receptor for advanced glycation end products) in patients suffering from bladder TCC. Materials and Methods: To explore the involvement of S100A12 and RAGE genes, total RNA was harvested from cancer tissues and samples obtained from normal non-tumorized urothelium of the same patients. Quantitative PCR (qPCR) was subsequently employed to determine the mRNA levels of S100A12 and RAGE. Results: The results showed that mRNA expression of S100A12 and RAGE was significantly up-regulated in the cancer tissue. Conclusions: According to the results presented in the current study, mRNA expression of S100A12 and RAGE might be as a useful biomarker for TCC. Therefore, this ligand-receptor axis possibly plays important roles in the development of TCC and may serve either as an early diagnostic marker or as a key factor in monitoring of response to treatment. More research is required concerning inhibition of the S100A12-RAGE axis in different cancer models.

Development of a SHA with 100 MS/s for High-Speed ADC Circuits (고속 ADC 회로를 위한 100 MS/s의 샘플링의 SHA 설계)

  • In this article, we have designed SHA, which has 12 Bit resolution at an input signal range of 1 $V_{pp}$ and operates at a sampling speed of 100 MS/s in order to use at front of high speed ADC. SFDR(Spurious Free Dynamic Range) of the proposed system drops to approximately 66.3 dB resolution when the input frequency is 5 MHz, and the sampling frequency is 100 MHz, however, the circuit without a feedthrough has 12 bit resolution with approximately 73 dB.

  • This work proposes a 12b 100MS/s 0.13um CMOS pipeline ADC for battery-powered mobile video applications such as DVB-Handheld (DVB-H), DVB-Terrestrial (DVB-T), Satellite DMB (SDMB), and Terrestrial DMB (TDMB) requiring high resolution, low power, and small size at high speed. The proposed ADC employs a three-step pipeline architecture to optimize power consumption and chip area at the target resolution and sampling rate. A single shared and switched op-amp for two MDACs removes a memory effect and a switching time delay, resulting in a fast signal settling. A two-step reference selection scheme for the last-stage 6b FLASH ADC reduces power consumption and chip area by 50%. The prototype ADC in a 0.13um 1P7M CMOS technology demonstrates a measured DNL and INL within 0.40LSB and 1.79LSB, respectively. The ADC shows a maximum SNDR of 60.0dB and a maximum SFDR of 72.4dB at 100MS/s, respectively. The ADC with an active die area of 0.92 $mm^2$ consumes 24mW at 1.0V and 100MS/s. The FOM, power/($f_s{\times}2^{ENOB}$), of 0.29pJ/conv. is the lowest of ever reported 12b 100MS/s ADCs.

  • This paper discusses the design of a sample-and -hold amplifier(SHA) that has a 12-bit resolution with a 100 MS/s speed. The sample-and-hold amplifier uses the open-loop architecture with hold-mode feedthrough cancellation for high accuracy and high sampling speed. The designed SHA is composed of input buffer, sampling switch, and output buffer with additional amplifier for offset cancellation Hard Ware. The input buffer is implemented with folded-cascode type operational transconductance Amplifier(OTA), and sampling switch is implemented with switched source follower(SSF). A spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) of this circuit is 72.6 dB al 100 MS/s. Input signal dynamic range is 1 Vpp differential. Power consumption is 65 ㎽.

A 3 V 12b 100 MS/s CMOS DAC for High-Speed Communication System Applications (고속통신 시스템 응용을 위한 3 V 12b 100 MS/s CMOS D/A 변환기)

  • This work describes a 3 V 12b 100 MS/s CMOS digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for high-speed communication system applications. The proposed DAC is composed of a unit current-cell matrix for 8 MSBs and a binary-weighted array for 4 LSBs, considering linearity, power consumption, chip area, and glitch energy. The low-glitch switch driving circuit is employed to improve the linearity and the dynamic performance. Current sources of the DAC are laid out separately from the current-cell switch matrix core. The prototype DAC is implemented in a 0.35 urn n-well single-poly quad-metal CMOS technology. The measured DNL and INL of the prototype DAC are within $\pm$0.75 LSB and $\pm$1.73 LSB, respectively, and the spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) is 64 dB at 100 MS/s with a 10 MHz input sinewave. The DAC dissipates 91 mW at 3 V and occupies the active die area of 2.2 mm ${\times}$ 2.0 mm.

Growth and Yield of Rice Affected by Slow Release Nitrogen Fertilizer Mixed with Soil in Seedling Box and Incorporated into Paddy Soil (육묘상자와 본답에 전층시비한 완효성 질소비료가 벼의 생육과 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • To find out the optimum level of slow release N fertilizers (MS 10, MS S10, LCU 80, and LCU 100), total amount of nitrogen required throughout the growing season were applied in the seedling box or incorporated into paddy soil. Four levels of the slow release N fertilizers (0, 6, 9 and 12 kg N/10 a) were mixed with commercial rice nursery bed soil. N release rate and electrical conductivity(EC) of the slow release fertilizers were greater in the order of MS 10 > LCU 80 ${\fallingdotseq}$ LCU 100 > MS S10 and higher as temperature increased. No seedlings were emerged in all MS 10 plots. The seedling emergence rate of LCU 80 and LCU 100 decreased as the N level increased and seedlings were wilted severely on the 13th day after sowing at 9 and 12 kg N/10 a. In MS S10 plots the emergence rate was higher than 80% at all N levels and seedling growth was normal until 30 days after sowing. Yield of rice was similar between seedling box application and soil incorporation in paddy of MS S10. Yield of rice among the 6, 9, 12 kg N/10 a of MS S10 and conventional 12 kg N/10 a of urea split application was similar, but it was significantly higher compared with no N plot. Fertilizer N recovery of MS S10 decreased as fertilizer level increased and it was significantly higher compared with conventional urea split application.

Changes in Specific Gravity, Total Solid and Protein Contents of Human Milk During the Course of Lactation in Korean Women (한국인 모유의 수유기간별 비중, 충고형분 및 단백질 함량의 변화)

  • The lonitudinal determination of specific gravity, total solid and protein contents of human milk were carried out in 27 Korean women. Human milk samples from the subjects were collected at 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150th days of lactation. 1) The average values of specific gravity of the milk was 1, 0281 (S.D. 0.0018, n=12), with a range of 1.0200-1.0383. 2) The average values of total soild of the milk was 12.07g/100ml(S.D. 0.38, n=112), with a range of 9.36-15.88g/100ml. 3) The average values of protein content of the milk was 1.20g/100ml (S.D. 0.14, n=112), with a range of 1.09-1.46g/100ml. A slight decrease of specific gravity and protein content in human milk was found during the course of lactation, but significant decrease was not found in total solid content.

A Modification of A Microbiological Assay of Vitamin $B_{12}$ In Fermented Vegetables

  • A modification of a microbiological assay of vitamin $B_{12}$ was made and used to determine the vita­min levels during kimchi fermentation. A cyanide-buffer solution of pH 6.0 replaced the metabisufite-buffer specified in the A.O.A.C. method. The vitamin $B_{12}$ activity was decreased by blending kimchi samples for 5 minutes and retained the activity by steaming for 10 minutes before blending. The alkali hydrolysis of kimchi at pH 12.0 for 30 minutes at $121^{\circ}C$ was sufficient to destroy the vitamin $B_{12}$ and permit the detection of analogs with the same assay organism. Vitamin $B_{12}$ reached a maximum of 47ng/100g during the fermentation of kimchi ${15}\;4^{\circ}C.$ Inoculation of the kimchi with Propionibacterium shermanii (ATCC 13673) increased the vitamin production to a maximum of 102ng/100g at 1 week of fermentation. Soy flour (0.5%) or beef extract (0.05%), which were regarded as protein sources, added to the inoculated kimchi further increased the vitamin $B_{12}$ activity to 197 and 203ng/100g.

  • This paper presents 6bit 100MHz Interpolation Flash Analog-to-Digital Converter, which can be applied to the Receiver of Wireless Tele-communication System. The 6bit 100MHz Flash Analog-to-Digital Converter simplifies and integrates S-R latch which multiplies as the resolution increases. Whereas the conventional NAND based S-R latch needed eight MOS transistors, this Converter was designed with only six, which makes the Dynamic Power Dissipation of the A/D Converter reduced up to 12.5%. The designed A/D Converter went through $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS n-well 1-poly 6-metal process to be a final product, and the final product has shown 282mW of power dissipation with 1.8V of Supply Voltage, 100MHz of conversion rate. And 35.027dBc, 31.253dB SFDR and 4.8bits, 4.2bits ENOB with 12.5MHz, 50MHz of each input frequency.

Unique epithelial expression of S100A calcium binding protein A7A in the endometrium at conceptus implantation in pigs

  • Objective: S100A7A, a member of the S100 protein family, is involved in various biological processes, including innate immunity, antimicrobial function, and epithelial tumorigenesis. However, the expression and function of S100A7A in the endometrium during the estrous cycle and pregnancy are not well understood in pigs. Therefore, this study determined the expression and regulation of S100A7A at the maternal-conceptus interface in pigs. Methods: We obtained endometrial tissues from pigs throughout the estrous cycle and pregnancy, conceptus tissues during early pregnancy, and chorioallantoic tissues during midto late pregnancy and analyzed the expression of S100A7A in these tissues. We also determined the effects of steroid hormones, estradiol-$17{\beta}$ ($E_2$) and progesterone, and interleukin-$1{\beta}$ (IL1B) on S100A7A expression in endometrial tissues. Results: We found that S100A7A was expressed in the endometrium during the estrous cycle and pregnancy in a pregnancy status- and stage-dependent manner and was localized to endometrial luminal epithelial (LE) and superficial glandular epithelial cells with strong intensity in LE cells on day 12 of pregnancy. Early stage conceptuses and chorioallantoic tissues from day 30 to term pregnancy also expressed S100A7A. The expression of S100A7A was increased by $E_2$ and IL1B in endometrial tissues. Conclusion: S100A7A was expressed at the maternal-conceptus interface at the initiation of implantation in response to conceptus-derived estrogen and IL1B and could be a unique endometrial epithelial marker for conceptus implantation in pigs. These findings provide an important insight into the understanding of conceptus-endometrial interactions for the successful establishment of pregnancy in pigs.
