  • This paper discusses about the implementation of a simulator for the Navigation Control System(NCS) of bimodal tram. To operate a NCS of bimodal tram, values of all sorts of sensors installed in bimodal tram should be transmitted to the NCS, and the NCS calculates the measured sensor values to determine traveling direction, traveling speed, current position etc. The implementation of the simulator consists of a device applying driver's input transaction function & virtual sensor program and a sub-rack device that controls communication with the NCS to evaluate navigation control function. The virtual sensor program can create routes (map), traveling profiles & seat information et cetera in order to transmit to the NCS, analyzes driver's input values and NCS output values to create virtual sensor values. The sub-rack device takes charge of communication with the NCS using CAN-OPEN, CAN-J1939, MVP protocols. This paper discusses about the implementation of the simulator and afterwards analyzes and evaluates the NCS simulation results.

  • Two known farnesylacetone derivatives (1 and 2) were isolated from the Korean brown alga Sargassum sagamianum off Jeju Island, Korea. Compounds 1 and 2 were identified as (5E,10Z)-6, 10, 14-trimethylpentadeca-5, 10-dien-2, 12-dione and (5E,9E,13E)-6, 10,4-trimethylpentadeca-5,9,13-trien-2,12-dione, respectively, by comparison with the literature data. Compounds 1 and 2 showed moderate acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibitory activities with $IC_{50}$ values of 65.0∼48.0 and 34.0∼23.0 $\muM$, respectively.

  • The paper deals with the dynamic stability of a cantilevered Timoshenko beam on partial elastic foundations subjected to a follower force. The beam is assumed to be a Timoshenko beam with a concentrated mass taking into account its rotary inertia and shear deformation. Governing equations are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and FEM is applied to solve the discretized equation. Critical follower force depending on the attachment ratios of partial elastic foundations, concentrated mass and rotary inertia of the beam is fully investigated.

  • Neuroscience and molecular biology studies show that inappropriate butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activity as well as acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity increases the risk and/or progression of Alzheimer's disease. BuChE may also regarded to participate in the transformation of Abeta (${\beta}$-amyloid) from an initially benign form to an eventually malignant form associated with neuritic tissue degeneration and clinical dementia. • TMJ ankylosis is defined as a mobile disorder of jaw such as mouth opening limitation, limitation of anterior or/and lateral movement of TMJ. Kazanjian published first clinical report about classification of TMJ ankylosis dividing with intracapsular ankylosis and extracapsular ankylosis. TMJ ankylosis is resulted from trauma, infection, metastatic tumor, irradiation, burn and etc. When TMJ ankylosis is manifested in growing period, it affects to functional disorder and development and position of mandible, so it can result in maxillofacial deformity such as facial asymmetry, micrognathia, malocclusion. For treatment of TMJ ankylosis, various surgical interventions were devised ; condylectomy, gap arthroplasty, interpositional arthroplasty and TMJ reconstruction. So, we report our results with documental study and cases of true ankylosis in our department.

  • Anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome includes fever, skin eruptions, lymphadenopathy, hematologic abnormality and hepatitis, but its mechanism remains unknown. Anticonvulsants including phenytoin, carbamazepine can cause hypersensitivity reaction. We treated a patient who had severe itching sensation and insomnia: he had undergone an operation for cerebral hemorrhage and was administered anti-convulsant agents to prevent convulsions. We administered the anti-convulsant, Dangkwieumja(Dangguiyinzi). After the treatment, clinical symptoms caused by hypersensitivity were improved.

  • Chunghyuldan (Qingxuedan in Chinese) (CHD) has been used for patients with atherosclerosis and brain ischemia in Korea. To evaluate antiischemic activity of CHD, its antiinflammatory effect in lipopolysaccharide-induced BV-2 cells was investigated. CHD potently inhibited nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-induced BV-2 cells with an $IC_{50}$ value of 4.8${\mu}g/ml$. CHD did not only inhibit mRNA and protein expression levels of inducible NO synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 in LPS-induced BV-2 cells, but also repressed mRNA expression levels of proinflammatory cytokines IL-l$\beta$ and TNF-$\alpha$. CHD also downregulated the activation of NF-kB and AP-l transcription factors induced by LPS. These results suggest that CHD may improve inflammatory brain ischemia by the downregulation the activation of NF-kB and AP-l transcription factors.

  • Red ginseng and fermented red ginseng were prepared, and their composition of ginsenosides and antiischemic effect were investigated. When ginseng was steamed at 98-$100{\circ}C$ for 4h and dried for 5h at $60{\circ}C$, and extracted with alcohol, its main components were ginsenoside $Rg_3$ > ginsenoside $Rg_1$> ginsenoside $Rg_2$. When the ginseng was suspended in water and fermented for 5 days by previously cultured Bifidobacterium H-1 and freeze-dried (fermented red ginseng), its main components were compound K > ginsenoside $Rg_3{\geq}$ ginsenoside $Rg_2$. Orally administered red ginseng extract did not protect ischemia-reperfusion brain injury. However, fermented red ginseng significantly protected ischemica-reperfusion brain injury. These results suggest that ginsenoside Rh2 and compound K, which was found to be at a higher content in fermented red ginseng than red ginseng, may improve ischemic brain injury.

  • Depression is a very difficult disease to be cured because several nervous systems are involved. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of Keum-Ryung-Ja-San (KRJS), a traditional herbal prescription, on depressive behaviors in mice using the forced swimming test. KRJS was given 1 h prior to the forced swimming test (50, 100, 200, an400 mg/kg, p.o.). The duration of immobility time in the forced swimming test was significantly reduced by KRJS treatment (200 mg/kg, P<0.05) and similar effects were observed with a classical antidepressant, imipramine (15 mg/kg, i.p.). With subchronic administrations of KRJS and its constituents at several doses for 1 week, a decreased duration of immobility time was observed with KRJS and Corydalis ternata (200 mg/kg, p.o. P<0.05). These results suggest that KRJS may have antidedpressive activities and CT may contribute to the antidepressive activity of KRJS.

  • Mucoepidermoid carcinomas, first reported by Volkman(1895), form 6% to 9% of all salivary tumors. Two thirds affecting the parotid gland and the remaining third, the minor glands. As we could know from its name, mucoepidermoid carcinomas originate from ductal epithelium including squamous, mucous-secreting, and undifferentiated intermediate cells. Histologically, it is classified as well-differentiated (low grade), moderately-differentiated(intermediate grade), and poorly-differentiated (high grade) types and the treatment method and prognosis are influenced from its histological grade. We have experienced two cases of mucoepidermoid carcinoma treated surgically with good results and now would like to report these with review of literatures.
