  • The objectives of this study are to analyze and compare importance degrees of rural amenity resources for rural development project using AHP and ANP (Analytic Network Process) which can be applied a complex decision making problem. For this study, I chose the 5 rural development project types and the 10 rural amenity resources as major criteria and formed the ANP network from relations with criteria. The importance degree matrix were derived by the results of AHP and several ANP analysis. As the results of this study, the importance degrees of 10 rural amenity resources are determined and the indigenous product resource is identified as the most important resource in general rural development project.

  • Rural policies in Korea have been changed into amenity-oriented ones recently to enhance the quality of life for villigians, which should be supported by the amenity-oriented maintenance system for rural space or environment too. Although so many studies on the classification system of amenity resources had been carried out, few ones which classified them principally by their spatial characteristics had been tried. From the viewpoint mentioned above, this study tried to propose a tentative classification system of amenity resources focussed on their locational characteristics. By the literature review, its draft was prepared, and after 2-round expert checks, the final table determined, which composed of 3-subsystems; green, production and living environment. Through the field application works in two case villages, its practical applicability was ascertained, from which two regarding points were found; public usability of terms and seasonality of amenity resources, especially green ones.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the entire processes of rural amenity resources survey from the beginning to the end, to discuss the results of the survey and resources information establishment, and to comprehensively analyze the status of resources information application. Rural amenity resources survey, which is aimed at finding rural amenity resources to respond to the demands of the resources and support rural development, was first conducted by National Academy of Agricultural Science under Rural Development Administration in 2005. The first survey subjects were 149 eups and myeons in Korea, expanding to the nationwide rural villages. In 2012, the rural amenity resources survey was completed. Next year, the information establishment was completely made. It is expected that the rural amenity resources information established by the survey will be more applied and used, and that with the constant addition of new analyses in line with the changing environment demands, rural amenity resources will contribute to dynamic rural development.

  • This study focused on developing various application services for smart phones in the rural amenity resources information service. By developing application services for smart phones, this study aims to stimulate rural tourism and increase the rural tourism economy. The main findings of this study revealed that 'information for reports/cultural/recreational facilities, etc', 'maps for rural villages(food, attractions, etc)', 'regional weather information', 'traffic reports for rural villages(public transportation, etc)' and 'introduction of rural experiences (festivals, exhibitions, events, etc)' are preferentially needed as the contents services of the rural amenity resources. Moreover, it has been found that the types of services firstly needed to offer information of rural amenity resources include 'searching the information around me(where I am)', 'wayfinding such as navigation', 'information sharing function with messenger and SNS, etc', 'taking and editing photography', 'searching information of rural villages about festivals, events, etc'. These are the items that can be utilized in developing application services needed by information services of rural amenity resources. It is expected that the future real-time smart phone services for rural amenity resources will be able to reinforce the competitiveness of rural tourism by giving urban dwellers the chance to utilize the customized information whenever they want.

  • Rural amenity resources consist of natural, cultural and social resources. Some of resources have been surveyed in other institutes and organizations and information system about these resources has been constructed. Integrating with information of existing system or database is helpful to produce useful rural amenity resources information to users. This integration of distributed information is based on semantic integration. In this paper, we used ontology for semantic integration and introduced the method of external information integration using ontology. We designed ontology table to represent ontology in database and integrated distributed information using ontology. To examine the improvement of information service efficiency and the applicability, rural amenity resources information and tourist attraction information database were constructed and integrated. Also, the information service efficiency with information integration was evaluated using recall ratio and compared to the information service efficiency without information integration.

  • The demand of rural tourism industry has increased among the urbanites in South Korea, in due to the increase of leisure activity and the emergence of ageing society. Rural amenity resources are gaining various interests, in the value creation and promotion of tourism. In this study, the propensities of city dwellers were separated by life-style classification, and each affinity to the rural amenity resources was examined in accordance with the separation. A questionnaire survey of urbanites in the southern area of Gyeonggi-do, the most populous province in South Korea, was conducted to analyze the preference of city dwellers about rural amenity resource and life-style of themselves. For statistical verification, $IBM^{(R)}$ $SPSS^{(R)}$ Statistics 20 software was used for frequency, reliability, factor and multiple regression analysis of this research. The results of the statistical analyses found a noticeable characteristic in life-style classification. The affinities of urbanites can be classified into four congregations of life-style factors in this statistical model. Each congregation of the factors was named as 'Self-development-oriented', 'Leisure-oriented', 'Achievement-oriented', and 'Culture-oriented' life-style, to represent the characteristics for convenience' sake. Among these styles, only 'Self-development-oriented' and 'Achievement-oriented' showed the positive correlation with rural amenity resources in the multiple regression analysis. In addition, the rural amenity resources were also analyzed in accordance with the life-styles classification of urbanites. City dwellers showed the highest interest to the 'natural resource management facility resource' in natural resources, the 'traditional heritage resource' in cultural resources, and the 'community resource' in social resources. Meanwhile, they showed less interest to 'agricultural and scenery resources' in natural resources, 'specialty production resource' in cultural resources, and 'cooperative farming' in social resources. These characteristics can be constructed as meaning that the urbanites who concern self-development and achievement of their lives have high interest in rural amenity resources, and the main interest of them is not 'return-to-the-farm'(歸農) but 'return-to-the-home'(歸村).

  • Value of rural amenity resources scattered in rural area is difficult to be assessed isolatedly. Rural Amenity Resources Map (RARM) is developed for assessing rural resources based on specific territory. In the developing process, knowledge based system is oriented because rural amenity is differed from personal feeling. Possible decision trees in RARM are developed in reviewing process of previous GIS based decision support systems, and information strategy planning is constructed for achieving goals such as rural tourism, down shifting, and rural investment.

In fact, the rural area and communities have lots of amenity resources that have been overlooked. Rural area has kept traditions and open green spaces which are highlighted in these days since the life quality has been upgraded and working days in a week was cut off to 5 days. Institute of Rural Resources Development realized the importance of rural amenities and offered the nation wide survey project for rural amenity resources. In this article, the survey project that was implemented by the Korean Society of Rural Planning was narrated in terms of methodologies and procedures. Also the results and the problems were addressed.

  • Current environmental problems of rural area are connected to loss of rural functions which is food security as well as conservation of environment, balanced development of country and succession of traditional culture. To solve these problems, recent projects are focusing on social changes in rural area and conservation of rurality creating values of rural amenity resources. At this point, full implications of rurality which is the various aspects of rurality should be defined to be applied in direct plans to conserve the rurality. In this study, nine attributes of rurality are found as various meanings with adjectives included in image of rurality. For practical use of these adjectives of rurality attributes, we evaluate the list of rural amenity resources and suggested plans for conservation of rural amenity. These attributes can be used as an effective method for village plan which brings one of the attributes into relief.

  • Recently 'Rural Amenity Resources Survey' has been launched to preserve unique and various attributes of rural amenity resources in rural areas. While vast amounts of field data are being collected, there has been insufficient means to share and analyze the data among users. This article addresses crucial issues on why more systematical approaches of building an information system to retrieve and represent information more efficiently. In this work, we have developed an alternative 'Rural Amenity Resources Information System' using Web-GIS and ontology, and later examined its applicability.
