CEFR is a small core-size sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) using high enrichment fuel with stainless-steel reflectors, which brings a significant challenge to the deterministic methodologies due to the strong spectral effect. The neutronic simulation of the start-up experiments conducted at the CEFR have been performed with a deterministic code system RAST-F, which is based on the two-step approach that couples a multi-group cross-section generation Monte-Carlo (MC) code and a multi-group nodal diffusion solver. The RAST-F results were compared against the measurement data. Moreover, the characteristic of neutron spectrum in the fuel rings, and adjacent reflectors was evaluated using different models for generation of accurate nuclear libraries. The numerical solution of RAST-F system was verified against the full core MC solution MCS at all control rods fully inserted and withdrawn states. A good agreement between RAST-F and MCS solutions was observed with less than 120 pcm discrepancies and 1.2% root-mean-square error in terms of keff and power distribution, respectively. Meanwhile, the RAST-F result agreed well with the experimental values within two-sigma of experimental uncertainty. The good agreement of these results indicating that RAST-F can be used to neutronic steady-state simulations for small core-size SFR, which was challenged to deterministic code system.
Interest is increasing in electrocardiogram (ECG) signal analysis for embedded devices, creating the need to develop an algorithm suitable for a low-power, low-memory embedded device. Linear approximation of the ECG signal facilitates the detection of fiducial points by expressing the signal as a small number of vertices. However, dynamic programming, a global optimization method used for linear approximation, has the disadvantage of high complexity using memoization. In this paper, the calculation area and memory usage are improved using a linear approximated template. The proposed algorithm reduces the calculation area required for dynamic programming through local optimization around the vertices of the template. In addition, it minimizes the storage space required by expressing the time information using the error from the vertices of the template, which is more compact than the time difference between vertices. When the length of the signal is L, the number of vertices is N, and the margin tolerance is M, the spatial complexity improves from O(NL) to O(NM). In our experiment, the linear approximation processing time was 12.45 times faster, from 18.18 ms to 1.46 ms on average, for each beat. The quality distribution of the percentage root mean square difference confirms that the proposed algorithm is a stable approximation.

This paper presents a validation study of the subchannel analysis code SLTHEN used for the core thermal-hydraulic design of the Prototype Gen-IV sodium-cooled fast reactor (PGSFR). To assess the performance of the ENERGY model of SLTHEN, four liquid metal heating experiments conducted by ORNL, WARD, and KIT with hexagonal assemblies of wire-wrapped rod bundles were analyzed. These experiments were performed with 19-and 61-pin bundles and varying power distributions of axial and radial peaking factors up to 1.4 and 3.0, respectively. The coolant subchannel temperatures measured at different axial locations were compared with the SLTHEN predictions with the Novendstern, Chiu-Rohsenow-Todreas (CRT), and Cheng-Todreas (CT) correlations for flow split and mixing in wire-wrapped pin bundles. The results showed that the SLTHEN predicts the measured subchannel temperatures reasonably well with root-mean-square errors of ~10 % and maximum errors of ~20 %. It was also observed that the CRT and CT correlations consistently outperform the Novendstern correlation.

Perovskite solar cells have received increasing attention in recent years because of their outstanding power conversion efficiency (exceeding 22%). However, they typically contain toxic Pb, which is a limiting factor for industrialization. We focused on preparing Pb-free perovskite films of Ag-Bi-I trivalent compounds. Perovskite thin films with improved optical properties were obtained by applying an anti-solvent (toluene) washing technique during the spin coating of perovskites. In addition, the surface condition of the perovskite film was optimized using a multi-step thermal annealing treatment. Using the optimized process parameters, $AgBi_2I_7$ perovskite films with good absorption and improved planar surface topography (root mean square roughness decreased from 80 to 26 nm) were obtained. This study is expected to open up new possibilities for the development of high performance $AgBi_2I_7$ perovskite solar cells for applications in Pb-free energy conversion devices.

Accurate detection and classification of faults on transmission lines is vitally important. In this respect, many different types of faults occur, such as inter alia low impedance faults (LIF) and high impedance faults (HIF). The latter in particular pose difficulties for the commonly employed conventional overcurrent and distance relays, and if undetected, can cause damage to expensive equipment, threaten life and cause fire hazards. Although HIFs are far less common than LIFs, it is imperative that any protection device should be able to satisfactorily deal with both HIFs and LIFs. Because of the randomness and asymmetric characteristics of HIFs, their modeling is difficult and numerous papers relating to various HIF models have been published. In this paper, the model of HIFs in transmission lines is accomplished using the characteristics of a ZnO arrester, which is then implemented within the overall transmission system model based on the electromagnetic transients program (EMTP). This paper proposes an algorithm for fault detection and classification for both LIFs and HIFs using Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). The inputs into ANFIS are current signals only based on Root-Mean-Square (RMS) values of 3-phase currents and zero sequence current. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested on a typical 154 kV Korean transmission line system under various fault conditions. Test results demonstrate that the ANFIS can detect and classify faults including LIFs and HIFs accurately within half a cycle.

This study investigates the change of flow characteristics over 10 Asian river basins in the past 30 years (1976-2005). The variation is estimated from The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model outputs based on reanalysis data which was bias-corrected for Asian monsoon reagion. The model was firstly calibrated and validated using observed data for daily streamflow. Four statistical criteria were applied to evaluate the model performance, including Coefficient of determination (R2), Nash - Sutcliffe model efficiency coeffi cient (NSE), Root mean square error-observations standard deviation ratio (RSR), and Percentage Bias (PBIAS). Then parameters of the model were applied for the historical period 1976-2005. The estimates show a temporal non-considerable increasing rate of daily streamflow in most of the basins over the past 30 years. The difference of monthly discharge becomes more significant during the months in the wet season (June to September) in all basins. The seasonal runoff shows significant difference in Summer and Autumn, when the rainfall intensity is higher. The line showing averaged runoff/rainfall ratio in all basins is sharp, presenting high variation of seasonal runoff/rainfall ratio from season to season.

This paper describes the application of an inverse building model to a calibrated forward building model using EnergyPlus program. Typically, inverse models are trained using measured data. However, in this study, an inverse building model was trained using data generated by an EnergyPlus model for an actual office building. The EnergyPlus model was calibrated using field data for the building. A training data set for a month of July was generated from the EnergyPlus model to train the inverse model. Cooling load prediction of the trained inverse model was tested using another data set from the EnergyPlus model for a month of August. Predicted cooling loads showed good agreement with cooling loads from the EnergyPlus model with root-mean square errors of 4.11%. In addition, different control strategies with dynamic cooling setpoint variation were simulated using the inverse model. Peak cooling loads and daily cooling loads were compared for the dynamic simulation.

Surface micromachined SiC devices have readily been fabricated from the polycrystalline (poly) 3C-SiC thin film which has an advantage of being deposited onto $SiO_2$ or $Si_3N_4$ as a sacrificial layer. Therefore, in this work, magnetron reactive ion etching process which can stably etch poly 3C-SiC thin films grown on $SiO_2$/Si substrate at a lower energy (70 W) with $CHF_3$ based gas mixtures has been studied. We have investigated the etching properties of the poly 3C-SiC thin film using PR/Al mask, according to $O_2$ flow rate, pressure, RF power, and electrode gap. The etched RMS (root mean square), etch rate, and etch profile of the poly 3C-SiC thin films were analyzed by SEM, AFM, and $\alpha$-step.

The dynamic response of rotor-bearing systems subjected to six-component nonststionary earthquake ground accelerations is analyzed. The governing equations of motion for the rotor are derived using Lagrangian approach. The six-component earthquake inputs result in both inhomogeneous and parametric excitations, so that the conventional spectral analysis of random vibration is not applicable. The method of Monte Carlo simulation is utilized to simulate the six-component nonstationary earthquake ground motions and to determine the response statistics of rotor-bearing systems. The significant influences due to rotational motions of seismic base on the overall structural response is demonstrated by a numerical example.
Concentration errors critically affect the performance of solar concentrator, so their evaluation is important to the concentrated solar power technology. However, the evaluation is very challenging because error sources are various and not easy to measure individually. Therefore, the integrated effect of concentration errors is often more interesting and useful for large-scale applications. In the present work, we analytically investigate and classify various concentration error sources and then explain that the effect of various concentration errors can be represented in terms of a root mean square value of reflector surface slope error. We present an indirect approach to assessing the reflector surface slope error by comparing solar flux measurement data with modeling calculations. We apply the approach for solar furnaces with different thermal capacity and investigate its advantages and disadvantages.
