Since 2008, it has been stipulated to conduct programming education for grade 5 and 6 elementary school student. However, it is the reality that the plans and studies for this are seriously lacking until now. The objective of this study is to propose a programming education utilizing robots as a plan to overcome limitations of existing programming education, find the problems through developing and applying education program for general elementary school students. As a result of experimental application of the developed program, since the gap of academic accomplishment for the robot programming is large for each student, it is necessary to develop education program to enable individual studies of each level and operate program with the focus on programming education rather than the robot. Moreover, it is pointed that the difficult and unnecessary elements in the robot programming course must be improved or reduced, it is better to exercise it on the grade 6 program for concentration on the programming education, and there should be improvement on equipment, environment for robot programming.

The revised 7th education course of information implies that students use variety of information devices to solve the common problems and it also includes the programming education for improving problem-solving abilities. Not only improving problem-solving abilities but also developing thinking skill is expected in programming education. However, traditional programming education is teacher-oriented and focused on language syntax. Accordingly, students have heavy cognitive load and it decrease students' interest of programming. Therefore, in this paper, a instructional method of programming using educational robot is proposed to improve interest of elementary students in concretive operation stage for effectiveness of programming education. Additionally, results of experiments show that proposed robot programming instructional method can be applied in elementary education.
The utilization of robots in programming education students the interest and motivation of learning. But at the same time the robot is required that understanding of the structure and understand the internal program(programming). So what problems are caused by error or if the student has difficulty identifying. The purpose of this study is the use of simulation tool in robot programming education possibilities will want to see. Elementary school students to analyze the possibility of non-simulation tool and simulation tool was applied. And usability evaluation and simulation tool, the survey recognized the potential of the education were analyzed. As a result, the usability of between simulation tool and non-simulation tool and there was no difference. And student can preview the results of programming and simulation tool can easily identify errors for recognizing the positive respectively. Based on this results, simulation tool can be utilized in robot education.

Computer education is moving its focus from skill oriented education to improving students' creativity and problem solving ability. Thus, the importance of programming education is being strengthened. However, programming education was biased to grammar oriented language that has been limits of students' interest. Robot programming is problem solving itself, and by allowing students to directly see the robot which is the output of programming, can help interest and motivate to the students. In fact, it is still observed that the students are facing difficulties due to various kinds of errors during the programming education. Therefore, this study categorizes and analyzes the errors students are facing during robot programming, and based on that, a support tool to help treat errors developed. The developed supporting system for error solving reduces the frequency of errors and provides the set of coding instruction, NXC language and error message in Korean, examples and detailed information for each stage of education, function removing major coding errors, and code sorting and indication of row number. This study also confirmed that the supporting tool is helpful in reducing and solving errors after input.

Many researchers in the 21st century has found that robot education is effective to develop the learners' creativity and problem-solving ability. However, the robot education can only be applied to the students whose computer skills are high. Also it can be taught in the well-prepared computer classroom. Students have to learn machine language to control their robots, and robots are controlled by different types of software. Therefore this study has constructed command-based programming blocks to do a robot programming without computers. It also presents a prototype of the programming process and a technological method to combine the command and the programming blocks. We used the blocks which are similar with something in flow chart: to support intuition, and to help students transfer what they learned. And types of blocks and details are described for the Robot Programing Education. Combination of command blocks is made by RS-485 connection method and, it is designed to intercommunicate with connected blocks. It also presents a prototypes: of the programming process using designed command blocks, and of the possibility of Unplugged Robot Education System.
Most of the robot programming curriculums consists mainly of understanding robot programming language and learning a simple grammatical sentences rather than logical problem solving process, these curriculums impose a burden on childrens' learning. Storytelling offers opportunities for continuation of childrens' positive learning motivation to practice symbolic manipulations, hold multiple abstract concepts in their heads, and create meaning between these ideas. In this paper, to overcome the difficulty of robot programming curriculum in elementary school and find teaching method which derives the childrens' motivation, we used storytelling in study of our robot programming curriculum.

Lately, as the importance of software and the software education has been emphasized, the studies on ways of teaching programming to elementary students have been actively progressed. However, most of undergraduates as prospective elementary teachers who will be in charge of teaching programming at the elementary schools have a lack of interest in programming education as well as of the understanding of basic programming principles. Therefore, this study investigated how programming education using hands-on robot and scratch affected learning motivation and academic achievement of preliminary teachers. The comparison of results of two programming educations shows that the programming education using hands-on robot revealed statistically significant difference in learning motivation and academic achievement.

The programming learning by using a robot may be one of the most appropriate learning methods for enabling students to experience the creative learning of future society by avoiding the existing stereotyped style educational environment, and understand and improve algorithm which is the basic fundamental of mathematics and science. This study proposed four types of items of errors which may occur during robot programming by elementary school students, and made elementary school students in the fifth and sixth grades learn robot programming after developing the curriculum for the robot programming. Then, the study collected and classified errors that had occurred during the process of learning, and conducted a comparative analysis of computer-based programming language which had been previously studied. This study identified that robot programming in elementary school was shown superior to existing computer-based programming language as a creative learning method and tool through the field experience.

Recently, programming education is being actively performed in education field with development of educational programming language and teaching and learning methods for elementary students. However, programming education have limit to apply to the overall computer science curriculum, because it is performed by more than 5th grade and focused on the utilization of programming tools than problem-solving process. It is necessary to expand the range of students and educational content considered with problem-solving process for encouraging programming education in computer science. In this study, we suggest the easy-to-use programming tool for lower grade(1st grade) and robot programming task based on improvement of student's thinking ability. We use Tangible User Interface(TUI) for elementary student's(1st grade) convenience of programming and developed the robot programming task for improvement of logical thinking. As a result of this experiment, tangible programming tool can be used easily in elementary students(1st grade) and developed robot programming task is effective in improvement of logical thinking.

By using robot programming curriculums, we are able to help the learners to improve academic achievement. But these curriculums reduce the level of participation, because most of the robot programming curriculums consists mainly of understanding simple grammatical sentences. Storytelling provides a variety of educational methods to improve logical thinking of children on their experiences and offers positive learning motivations to the learners. In this paper, we proposed the robot programming curriculum using storytelling and implemented the system to support it. By using this curriculum and visualization tools in this system, children can make a robot story and model easily with others. In addition, this robot programming curriculum and system can provide learning motivation and academic achievement to the children continuously.
