Effect of lithium on endothelial-dependent relaxation to melatonin in rat aorta (흰쥐 대동맥에서 melatonin의 내피 의존적 혈관 이완 작용에 대한 lithium의 영향)

  • Melatonin, the principal hormone of the vertebral pineal gland, participates in the regulation of cardiovascular system in vitro and in vivo. Lithium inhibits both inositol polyphosphate phosphatase (IPPase) and inositol monophosphatase (IMPase), which are involved in a wide range of signal transduction pathways. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of lithium on endothelial-dependent relaxation to melatonin and on the melatonin-induced inhibition of contraction by phenylephrine (PE) in isolated rat aorta. Melatonin induced a concentration-dependent relaxation in PE-precontracted in endothelium-intact (+E) aortic rings. Melatonin inhibited a PE-induced sustained contraction in +E aortic rings. These effects of melatonin on relaxation and contractile responses were inhibited by pretreatment with lithium. In PE-precontracted +E aortic rings, the melatonin-induced vasorelaxations and the inhibitory effects of melatonin on maximal contractions were inhibited by endothelium removal or by pretreatment with L-$N^G$-nitro-arginine (L-NNA), 1H-[1,2,4] oxadiazolo-[4,3-a] quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ) and nifedipine and verapamil, but not by tetrabutylammonium, clotrimazole and glibenclamide, However, in endothelium-denuded (-E) aortic rings and in the presence of L-NNA and ODQ in +E aortic rings, the melatonin-induced residual relaxations and the melatonin-induced residual contractile responses to PE were not affected by lithium. It is concluded that the inositol phosphate pathway may be involved in endothelial-dependent relaxation induced by melatonin.

Phospholipase C-mediated vasorelaxing action of melatonin in rat isolated aorta (흰쥐 대동맥에서 phospholipase C를 경유한 melatonin의 혈관 이완 작용)

  • Melatonin, the principal hormone of the vertebral pineal gland, participates in the regulation of cardiovascular system in vitro and in vivo. However, the effects of melatonin on vascular tissues are still vague. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between phospholipase C (PLC) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS)/cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cGMP) signaling cascade in the relaxatory action of melatonin in isolated rat aorta. Melatonin induced a concentration-dependent relaxation in phenylephrine (PE)- and KCl-precontracted endothelium intact (+E) aortic rings. In KCl-precontracted +E aortic rings, the melatonin-induced vasorelaxation was not inhibited by endothelium removal or by pretreatment with NOS inhibitors, L-$N^G$-nitor-arginine (L-NNA) and L-$N^G$-nitor-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), guanylate cyclase (GC) inhibitors, methylene blue (MB) and 1H-[1,2,4] oxadiazolo-[4,3-a] quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ). In PE-precontracted +E aortic rings, the melatonin-induced vasorelaxation was inhibited by endothelium removal or by pretreatment with L-NNA, L-NAME, MB, ODQ and 2-nitro-4-carboxyphenyl-n,n-diphenylcarbamate (NCDC). Moreover, in without endothelium (-E) aortic rings and in the presence of L-NNA, L-NAME, MB and ODQ in +E aortic rings, the melatonin-induced residual relaxations and residual contractile responses to PE were not affected by NCDC, a PLC inhibitor. It is concluded that melatonin can evoke vasorelaxation due to inhibition of PLC pathway through the protein kinase G activation of endothelial NOS/cGMP signaling cascade.

Alignment and lattice quality of hexagonal rings of hexagonal BN films synthesized by ion beam assisted deposition (이온빔보조증착법으로 합성한 hexagonal BN막의 hexagonal ring의 배열과 결정성)

  • We have studied the alignment and the lattice quality of hexagonal rings of h-BN films synthesized by ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) method. Boron was e-beam evaporated at 1.5 $\AA$/sec and nitrogen gas was ionized using end-hall type ion gun at 60, 80, and 100 eV, respectively. Substrate was either not heated or heated at 200, 400, 500, and $800^{\circ}C$, respectively. As nitrogen ion energy increases, c-axes of hexagonal rings tend to align parallel to the substrate, which is explained by larger compressive stress at higher ion energies. Alignment of c-axis increases with temperature and shows maximum around $400^{\circ}C$. The lattice quality of hexagonal rings improves with temperature. Such behaviors can be understood from two counter trends of increasing the atomic mobility and decreasing compressive stress with temperature. Hardness of h-BN films shows the same trend with the alignment of c-axis. Ion beam assisted deposition method seems to be effective for aligning hexagonal rings and optimizing h-BN properties.

Effect of Preconditioning Ischemia on Endothelial Dysfunction Produced by Ischemia-Reperfusion in Rabbit Coronary Artery

  • This study was designed to test whether or not 1) ischemia-reperfusion attenuates endothelium-dependent relaxation of coronary arteries and 2) preconditioning protects the arterial endothelium from ischemia-reperfusion injury. In anesthetized open chest rabbits, branches of the left circumflex artery were exposed to different combinations of the experimental conditions; ischemia (15 minutes), ischemia (15 minutes)-reperfusion (10 minutes), preconditioning ischemia, and pre-conditioning fellowed by ischemia-reperfusion. Preconditioning consisted of 3 occlusions of 2-min duration, each followed by n 5-min reperfusion. Rings of the artery exposed to the experimental condition and of normal left anterior descending coronary artery were prepared and suspended for isometric force measurement in organ chambers containing Krebs Ringer bicarbonate solution. The rings were contracted with 29.6 mM KCI. Ischemia alone did not attenuate endothelium-dependent relaxation by acetylcholine. However, ischemia-reperfusion significantly impaired endothelium-dependent relaxation. Endothelium-independent relaxation by sodium nitroprusside was not impaired by ischemia-reperfusion and the constrictive response to acetylcholine was not altered in reperfused rings without endothelium, compared with control rings. Arterial rings exposed to preconditioning followed by ischemia-reperfusion exhibited impaired endothelium-dependent relaxation by acetyl-choline. However, although preconditioning not fellowed by ischemia-reperfusion, attenuated endothelium-dependent relaxation at low concentrations of acetylcholine, the magnitude of the impairment by preconditioning followed by ischemia-reperfusion was significantly less than that of the impairment by ischemia-reperfusion alone. These data demonstrate that ischemia-reperfusion significantly attenuates endothelium-dependent relaxation by producing endothelial dysfunction and preconditioning Protects the endothelium of coronary arteries from ischemia-reperfusion injury.

DUO RING PROPERTY RESTRICTED TO GROUPS OF UNITS

  • We study the structure of right duo ring property when it is restricted within the group of units, and introduce the concept of right unit-duo. This newly introduced property is first observed to be not left-right symmetric, and we examine several conditions to ensure the symmetry. Right unit-duo rings are next proved to be Abelian, by help of which the class of noncommutative right unit-duo rings of minimal order is completely determined up to isomorphism. We also investigate some properties of right unit-duo rings which are concerned with annihilating conditions.

Design Optimization and Numerical Study of O-ring using Taguchi Method (다구찌법을 이용한 O-링의 최적설계 및 수치적 연구)

  • The sealing performance of O-rings is affected by working conditions such as applied pressure, operation temperature, pre-compressed ratio and material properties. In this paper, a pressurized and compressed elastomeric bi-polymer O-ring in which is inserted into a rectangular groove is analyzed by non-linear MARC finite element program based on the Taguchi experimental method. O-rings with 9 different profile models are analyzed for design parameters that are related to the diameter ratio between outer diameter and inner one of bi-polymer O-ring, compressive ratio, groove angle and groove depth. The calculated FEM results showed that the affection ratio of design parameter dlD, which may control sealing pressure of O-rings, is the most influential parameter among the groove angle, groove depth and compression ratio.

  • An ideal I of a local ring (R, m, k) is said to be m-full if there exists an element $x{\in}m$ such that Im : x = I. An ideal I of a local ring R is said to have the Rees property if ${\mu}$(I) > ${\mu}$(J) for any ideal J containing I. We study properties of m-full ideals and we characterize m-primary m-full ideals in terms of the minimal number of generators of the ideals. In particular, for a m-primary ideal I of a 2-dimensional regular local ring (R, m, k), we will show that the following conditions are equivalent. 1. I is m-full 2. I has the Rees property 3. ${\mu}$(I)=o(I)+1 In this paper, let (R, m, k) be a commutative Noetherian local ring with infinite residue field k = R/m.

  • Let R be a ring with the unity 1, and let e be an idempotent of R. In this paper, we discuss some symmetric property for the set $\{(a_1,a_2,{\cdots},a_n){\in}R^n:a_1a_2{\cdots}a_n=e\}$. We here investigate some properties of those rings with such a symmetric property for an arbitrary idempotent e; some of our results turn out to generalize some known results observed already when n = 2 and e = 0, 1 by several authors. We also focus especially on the case when n = 3 and e = 1. As consequences of our observation, we also give some equivalent conditions to the commutativity for some classes of rings, in terms of the symmetric property.

  • Let $D{\subseteq}E$ be an extension of integral domains with characteristic zero, I be a nonzero proper ideal of D and let H(D, E) and H(D, I) (resp., h(D, E) and h(D, I)) be composite Hurwitz series rings (resp., composite Hurwitz polynomial rings). In this paper, we show that H(D, E) satisfies the ascending chain condition on principal ideals if and only if h(D, E) satisfies the ascending chain condition on principal ideals, if and only if ${\bigcap}_{n{\geq}1}a_1{\cdots}a_nE=(0)$ for each infinite sequence $(a_n)_{n{\geq}1}$ consisting of nonzero nonunits of We also prove that H(D, I) satisfies the ascending chain condition on principal ideals if and only if h(D, I) satisfies the ascending chain condition on principal ideals, if and only if D satisfies the ascending chain condition on principal ideals.

STRUCTURE OF UNIT-IFP RINGS

  • In this article we first investigate a sort of unit-IFP ring by which Antoine provides very useful information to ring theory in relation with the structure of coefficients of zero-dividing polynomials. Here we are concerned with the whole shape of units and nilpotent elements in such rings. Next we study the properties of unit-IFP rings through group actions of units on nonzero nilpotent elements. We prove that if R is a unit-IFP ring such that there are finite number of orbits under the left (resp., right) action of units on nonzero nilpotent elements, then R satisfies the descending chain condition for nil left (resp., right) ideals of R and the upper nilradical of R is nilpotent.
