  • A series of polystyrene-supported 1-(propyl-3-sulfonate)-3-methyl-imidazolium hydrosulfate acidic ionic liquid (PS-$[SO_3H-PMIM][HSO_4]$) catalysts were prepared and tested for mononitration of simple aromatics compounds with nitric acid. It was found that the reactivity of the catalysts increased with increasing $[SO_3H-PMIM][HSO_4]$ content. The para-selectivity was not only related to the $[SO_3H-PMIM][HSO_4]$ content but also the substituent groups in aromatics. A reaction mechanism of nitration over this new catalyst was proposed. The catalytic activity of this catalyst decreased slightly after fifth runs in the synthesis of nitrotoluene.

  • The reaction of $PdCl_2$ dispersed in tetra-n-butylammonium bromide with tributyl amine at $120^{\circ}C$ under argon leads to stable isolable nanometric particles. X-ray diffraction analysis of the material indicated that it is constituted of Pd(0). Transmission electron microscopy analysis of the particles dispersed in acetone shows the mean particle size distribution ($4{\pm}1\;nm$). The isolated palladium nanoparticles can be dispersed in an ionic liquid or in methanol or used in solventless condition for selective hydrogenation of 2-hexyne under mild reaction conditions(0.2 MPa and $20^{\circ}C$). The commercial variety of the Lindlar catalyst was also studied for comparative investigations.

  • Niobium oxide ($Nb_2O_5$) and phosphated $Nb_2O_5$ were synthesized and used as catalysts for sorbitol dehydration to isosorbide. The characterization results of $N_2$ adsorption, XRD and $NH_3$-TPD revealed that the phosphoric acid modification could well prevent the crystallization of $Nb_2O_5$. And the amorphous phosphated $Nb_2O_5$ catalysts kept the relatively large surface area and stable acidity at high calcination temperature. The catalytic results showed that the selectivity to isosorbide could be dramatically enhanced over phosphated $Nb_2O_5$. The excellent catalytic performance with 100.0% sorbitol conversion and 62.5% isosorbide selectivity were obtained over the 0.8P/NBO-400 catalyst. Comparing with $Nb_2O_5$ catalysts, phosphated $Nb_2O_5$ catalysts regenerated through a simple calcination process showed no significant activity loss after recycling three runs.

  • Nickel nanoparticles (Ni NPs) appeared to exhibit the catalytic activity in one-pot cyclocondensation reaction for the preparation of 3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-ones via Biginelli reaction from aromatic/heteroaromatic/aliphatic aldehydes, urea/thiourea and ethyl acetoacetate under microwave irradiation has been described. The UV absorbance spectra showed metallic Ni characteristics and appreciate with the particle size determined by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). After reaction course the Ni NPs can be re-covered and reused without any apparent loss of activity.

  • Plastic pollution is threatening human health and ecosystems, resulting in one of the biggest challenges that humanity has ever faced. Therefore, this study focuses on the preparation of macroporous carbon from biowaste (MC)-supported manganese oxide ($MnO_2$) as an efficient, reusable, and robust catalyst for the recycling of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) waste. As-prepared $MnO_2/MC$ composites have a hierarchical pore network and a large surface area ($376.16m^2/g$) with a narrow size distribution. $MnO_2/MC$ shows a maximum yield (98%) of bis(2-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate (BHET) after glycolysis reaction for 120 min. Furthermore, $MnO_2/MC$ can be reused at least nine times with a negligible decrease in BHET yield. Based on this remarkable catalytic performance, we expect that $MnO_2$-based heterogeneous catalysts have the potential to be introduced into the PET recycling industry.

  • A highly efficient and environmentally benign protocol has been developed for the first time to produce a wide range of biologically active 5-hydroxyindole derivatives using montmorillonite KSF clay as a reusable solid acid catalyst. The use of recyclable clay makes this procedure quite simple, more convenient and cost-effective.
