Statement of problem : Successful osseointegration of endosseous threaded implants is dependent on many factors. These may include the surface characteristics and gross geometry of implants, the quality and quantity of bone where implants are placed, and the magnitude and direction of stress in functional occlusion. Therefore clinical quantitative measurement of primary stability at placement and functional state of implant may play a role in prediction of possible clinical symptoms and the renovation of implant geometry, types and surface characteristic according to each patients conditions. Ultimately, it may increase success rate of implants. Purpose : Many available non-invasive techniques used for the clinical measurement of implant stability and osseointegration include percussion, radiography, the $Periotest^{(R)}$, Dental Fine $Tester^{(R)}$ and so on. There is, however, relatively little research undertaken to standardize quantitative measurement of stability of implant and osseointegration due to the various clinical applications performed by each individual operator. Therefore, in order to develop non-invasive experimental method to measure stability of implant quantitatively, the resonance frequency analyzer to measure the natural frequency of specific substance was developed in the procedure of this study. Material & method : To test the stability of the resonance frequency analyzer developed in this study, following methods and materials were used : 1) In-vitro study: the implant was placed in both epoxy resin of which physical properties are similar to the bone stiffness of human and fresh cow rib bone specimen. Then the resonance frequency values of them were measured and analyzed. In an attempt to test the reliability of the data gathered with the resonance frequency analyzer, comparative analysis with the data from the Periotest was conducted. 2) In-vivo study: the implants were inserted into the tibiae of 10 New Zealand rabbits and the resonance frequency value of them with connected abutments at healing time are measured immediately after insertion and gauged every 4 weeks for 16 weeks. Results : Results from these studies were such as follows : The same length implants placed in Hot Melt showed the repetitive resonance frequency values. As the length of abutment increased, the resonance frequency value changed significantly (p<0.01). As the thickness of transducer increased in order of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mm, the resonance frequency value significantly increased (p<0.05). The implants placed in PL-2 and epoxy resin with different exposure degree resulted in the increase of resonance frequency value as the exposure degree of implants and the length of abutment decreased. In comparative experiment based on physical properties, as the thickness of transducer increased, the resonance frequency value increased significantly(p<0.01). As the stiffness of substances where implants were placed increased, and the effective length of implants decreased, the resonance frequencies value increased significantly (p<0.05). In the experiment with cow rib bone specimen, the increase of the length of abutment resulted in significant difference between the results from resonance frequency analyzer and the $Periotest^{(R)}$. There was no difference with significant meaning in the comparison based on the direction of measurement between the resonance frequency value and the $Periotest^{(R)}$ value (p<0.05). In-vivo experiment resulted in repetitive patternes of resonance frequency. As the time elapsed, the resonance frequency value increased significantly with the exception of 4th and 8th week (p<0.05). Conclusion : The development of resonance frequency analyzer is an attempt to standardize the quantitative measurement of stability of implant and osseointegration and compensate for the reliability of data from other non-invasive measuring devices It is considered that further research is needed to improve the efficiency of clinical application of resonance frequency analyzer. In addition, further investigation is warranted on the standardized quantitative analysis of the stability of implant.
PURPOSE. This study investigated the influence of bone quality and surgical technique on the implant stability quotient (ISQ) value. In addition, the influence of interfacial bone quality, directly surrounding the implant fixture, on the resonance frequency of the structure was also evaluated by the finite element analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two different types of bone (type 1 and type 2) were extracted and trimmed from pig rib bone. In each type of bone, the same implants were installed in three different ways: (1) Compaction, (2) Self-tapping, and (3) Tapping. The ISQ value was measured and analyzed to evaluate the influence of bone quality and surgical technique on the implant primary stability. For finite element analysis, a three dimensional implant fixture-bone structure was designed and the fundamental resonance frequency of the structure was measured with three different density of interfacial bone surrounding the implant fixture. RESULTS. In each group, the ISQ values were higher in type 1 bone than those in type 2 bone. Among three different insertion methods, the Tapping group showed the lowest ISQ value in both type 1 and type 2 bones. In both bone types, the Compaction groups showed slightly higher mean ISQ values than the Self-tapping groups, but the differences were not statistically significant. Increased interfacial bone density raised the resonance frequency value in the finite element analysis. CONCLUSION. Both bone quality and surgical technique have influence on the implant primary stability, and resonance frequency has a positive relation with the density of implant fixture-surrounding bone.
The vehicle system is exposed to random source in service. Therefore, it is important to consider dynamic effect of the system. But, fatigue analysis is traditionally performed by using time signal of loading. To obtain dynamic effect of resonance, we carried out resonance durability analysis with frequency response and the dynamic load on frequency domain. The study shows that the damage considering resonant frequency of fuel tank system can be effectively estimated.
Purpose: Resonance frequency analysis (RFA) , a non-invasive technique for the clinical measurement of implant stability, was investigated. Peri-implant bony defect may contribute to implant failure. This in vitro study evaluated the resonance frequencies according to various bony defects and determined whether the directional bone defect can affect the value of frequency analysis. Material and Method: Fifteen 3.75 mm in diameter and 10 mm in length, machined self-tapping implant future were used. Twelve types of bone defects that have different horizontal and vertical dimensions were simulated. Embedded implants were attached to the dental surveyor. Then, the transducer was connected with the implant fixture and the ISQ value was measured at four different directions. Two-way analysis of variance and post hoc $Sch\`{e}ffe'$ test were performed at the 95% significance level. Results: The control group showed the highest ISQ value and 5 thread-$360^{\circ}$ group had the lowest one. As the vertical exposure of implants in each angle was increased, the ISQ value was decreased. Although the horizontal exposure in each thread was increased, the ISQ value was not significantly decreased. Conclusion : Although the simulated defect type was different from each other, the ISQ value was similar among groups.
PURPOSE. The present study was aimed to evaluate the influence of implant contact ratio and stiffness of implant-surrounding materials on the resonance frequency analysis (RFA) values. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Seventy resin blocks that had the different amounts (100, 50, 30, 15%) of resin-implant contact (RIC) were fabricated. Ten silicone putty blocks with 100% silicone-implant contact were also made. The implants with ${\phi}5.0mm{\times}13.0mm$ were placed on eighty specimen blocks. The RFA value was measured on the transducer that was connected to each implant by Osstell Mentor. Kruskal-Wallis and Scheffe's tests (${\alpha}$=.05) were done for statistical analysis. RESULTS. The control resin group with 100% RIC had the highest RFA value of 83.9, which was significantly different only from the resin group with 15% RIC among the resin groups. The silicone putty group with 100% contact had the lowest RFA value of 36.6 and showed statistically significant differences from the resin groups. CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this in vitro study, there was no significant difference in the RFA values among the resin groups with different RIC's except when the RIC difference was more than 85%. A significant increase in the RFA value was observed related to the increase in stiffness of material around implant.

Statement of problem. Initial stability of implant is an important factor for predicting osseointegration. It requires a rapid, non-invasive, user-friendly technique to frequently assess the implant stability and the degree of osseointegration. Purpose. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between the resonance frequency analysis (RFA) and the radiographic method for peri-implant bone change under in vitro conditions. Material and Method. Twenty implants of 3.75 mm in diameter(Neoplant, Neobiotech, Korea) were used. To simulate peri-implant bone change, 2 mm-deep $45^{\circ}$ range horizontal defect and 2 mm-deep $90^{\circ}$ range horizontal defect area were serially prepared perpendicular to the X-ray beam after conventional implant insertion. Customized film holding device was fabricated to standardize the projection geometry for serial radiographs of implants and direct digital image was obtained. ISQ values and gray values inside threads were measured before and after peri-implant bone defect preparation. Results. Within a limitation of this study, ISQ value of resonance frequency analysis was changed according to peri-implant bone change (p<0.05) and gray value of radiographic method was changed according to peri-implant bone change (p<0.05). There was no correlation between the ISQ value and the gray value for peri-implant bone change (p>0.05). But, in horizontal defect condition, relatively positive correlation were between ISQ and gray values(r=0.663). Conclusion. This results provided a possibility that peri-implant bone change may be evaluated by both RFA and radiographic method.
The test specimen in environmental vibration test is connected to the fixture through several attachment points. The forces generated by the shaker must be transmitted equally to all attachment points. The forces transmitted to attachment points, however, are different because of the flexural vibration of the fixture. The variations of the transmitted force cause the under-test, especially at anti-resonance frequencies, in vibration test control. Anti-resonance frequencies at the attachment points of the fixture must be same in order to avoid the under-test in vibration test control. The structural modification of the fixture is needed so that anti-resonance frequencies at attachment points have the same value. In this paper, the method to calculate the anti-resonance frequencies and those sensitivities is presented. This sensitivity analysis is applied to the structural modification of the fixture excited at multi-points by the shaker. The antiresonance frequencies at the attachment points of the fixture can have the same value after structural modification, and the under-test in the vibration test control can be removed. Several computer simulations show that the proposed method can remove the under-tests, which are not removed in conventional vibration test control.
The structure and operating principle of the 2-speed shift reducer were explained, the allowable bending stress value of the material was compared with the analysis result through FM structural analysis program, and the average stress distribution value of von Mises was performed on the gear root atmosphere. The structural safety of the 2-speed planetary gear reducer was verified through FM structural analysis. The natural frequency was calculated by applying the specifications of the planetary gears of the 2-speed gearbox, and the critical speed of resonance was calculated by calculating the natural frequency and the transmission error of the engaged gear pair. As a result of analyzing the critical speed, since it is formed higher than the actual operating speed range, it is considered safe because there is no resonance problem due to the suggested specifications of the planetary gears of the 2-speed shift reduction.
Background: Evaluation of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-strand break is important to elucidate the biological effect of ionizing radiations. The conventional methods for DNA-strand break evaluation have been achieved by Agarose gel electrophoresis and others using an electrical property of DNAs. Such kinds of DNA-strand break evaluation systems can estimate DNA-strand break, according to a molecular weight of DNAs. However, the conventional method needs pretreatment of the sample and a relatively long period for analysis. They do not have enough sensitivity to detect the strand break products in the low-dose region. Materials and Methods: The sample is water, methanol and plasmid DNA solution. The plasmid DNA pUC118 was multiplied by using Escherichia coli JM109 competent cells. The resonance frequency and Q-value were measured by means of microwave dielectric absorption spectroscopy. When a sample is located at a center of the electric field, resonance curve of the frequency that existed as a standing wave is disturbed. As a result, the perturbation effect to perform a resonance with different frequency is adopted. Results and Discussion: The resonance frequency shifted to higher frequency with an increase in a concentration of methanol as the model of the biological material, and the Q-value decreased. The absorption peak in microwave power spectrum of the double-strand break plasmid DNA shifted from the non-damaged plasmid DNA. Moreover, the sharpness of absorption peak changed resulting in change in Q-value. We confirmed that a resonance frequency shifted to higher frequency with an increase in concentration of the plasmid DNA. Conclusion: We developed a new technique for an evaluation of DNA damage. In this paper, we report the evaluation method of DNA damage using microwave dielectric absorption spectroscopy.
In this paper, an oil hydraulic pipeline is terminated by both rotary sinusoidal flow generator at upstream oriffice at down stream. The pulsating pressure wave from generated by the rotary sinusoidal flow generator, is measured by using sensor. In the analysis of this paper, a component of the fundamental frequency is obtained by using Laplace transformation.. The experimental and analytical results make clear that (1) viscosity is significant role in hydraulic pipe. (2) When pulsating frequency is matched with the natural frequency, resonance frequency occured periodically. According to the study proposed here, dynamic pressure in a circular oil pipe is expressed in propagation of pressure wave with respect to frequency and Bessel function. The resonance at oil temperature $20^{\circ}$$0^{\circ}C$ in this study. The abrupt change of gain value is due to effect of resonance frequency. The results of experiment are compared with the calculated results, and agreement of both results is fairly good.
