Intrarater and Interrater Reliability of the Dynamic Gait Index in Persons With Parkinson's Disease

  • Clinical measures that Quantify falling risk factors are needed for the accurate evaluation of patients and to plan an intervention strategy. The purpose of this study was to examine the test-retest and interrater reliability of the dynamic gait index (DGI) for persons with Parkinson's disease (PD). A total of 22 idiopathic PD patients were recruited from rehabilitation hospital, Korea in this study. The DGI was assessed in two sessions that were, three days apart. We also measured Berg balance test (BBT) and geriatric depression scale (GDS) for concurrent validity with DGI. Intrarater and interrater reliability (.96 and .98 respectively) for DGI were high. indicating good agreement. The DGI was showed a good positive correlation with the BBS (r=.852). but not GDS (r=-.462). Intrarater and interrater reliability of DGI were high in people with PD. The DGI could be a reliable measure to evaluate functional postural control during gait activities in the PD population, and the ability of DGI to detect real change is acceptable in research and clinical settings.

User Influence Discrimination Scheme Using Activity Analysis in Social Networks (소셜 네트워크에서 행위 분석을 통한 사용자 영향력 판별 기법)

  • A user influence discrimination scheme using big data from social networks is needed. In this thesis, we propose a user influence discrimination scheme considering reliability in social networks. The proposed scheme measures reliability scores through social activities and simplifies a social network by collecting only reliable users. It also derives user influence by considering direct and indirect influences that depends on network degree between users. As a result, the proposed scheme improves the expandability of the user influence. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing scheme through performance evaluations in terms of reliability and user influence.

An Integrated Approach of Component Reliability Data on Korea Standard Nuclear Power Plants Using PRinS (원전 신뢰도 DB 시스템을 이용한 표준형 원전 통합 기기 신뢰도 데이터 분석 및 적용)

  • Component reliability data were analyzed by using PRinS(Plant Reliability data information System) based on the latest operating experiences of eight KSNPs(Korea Standard Nuclear Power plants), and these new data were applied to the KSNP PSA models. In addition, the existing PSA models were revised for reflecting as-built and as-operated plant conditions. As a result of newly performing PSA in this paper, CDF and LERF were estimated 26.1% and 18.2% lower than the existing values, respectively. It was identified that the risk measures decreased not because of revising the models but because of applying the new component reliability data. The result and the method of this paper could be used when generating plant specific data and performing the living PSA in the future.

  • The increasing level of operation in high-tech industry is likely to require ever more complex structure in reliability problem. Furthermore, system failures are more significant on society as a whole than ever before. Reliability redundancy optimization problem (RROP) plays a important role in the designing and analyzing the complex system. RROP involves selection of components with multiple choices and redundancy levels for maximizing system reliability with constraints such as cost, weight, etc. Meanwhile, previous works on RROP dealt with system with perfect failure detection, which gave at most a good solution. However, we studied RROP with imperfect failure detection and switching. Using absorbing Markov Chain, we present not a good solution but the optimal one. In this study, the optimal system configuration is designed with warm and cold-standby redundancy for k-out-of-n system in terms of MTTF that is one of the performance measures of reliability.

Development of the Patient Caring Communication Scale (환자 돌봄 의사소통 측정 도구 개발)

  • Purpose: This study attempted to develop a scale that measures the level of patients' recognition of the nurses' care, based on Watson's caring theory, and confirmed its reliability and validity. Methods: The items were developed through a literature review and an expert content validity test. The questionnaires were administered to 285 inpatients of internal medicine and surgical units at two general hospitals. Construct validity was tested using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability was tested using Cronbach's alpha. Results: This process resulted in a preliminary scale composed of 34 items; We used item analysis and five exploratory factor analyses, and consequently selected 14 items composed of three factors (respect, genuineness, and relationality). The confirmatory factor analysis verified the model fit and convergent and discriminant validity of the final items; criterion validity was confirmed with the positive correlation with the measurement scale of the patient-perceived quality of nursing. The overall scale reliability had a Cronbach's alpha of .92, which indicated internal consistency and reliability. Conclusion: The developed scale showed content, construct, and criterion validity, and reliability, as well as convergent validity for each item and discriminant validity between the factors. This makes it suitable for use in a diverse range of future studies on nurse communication using structural equation models.

Development and Validation of the Nurse Needs Satisfaction Scale Based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory (Maslow의 욕구위계이론에 근거한 간호사 욕구만족도 측정도구 개발 및 타당화)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument to evaluate the needs satisfaction of nurses and examine its validity and reliability. Methods: The initial items for the instrument were developed through a literature review and interviews, using the conceptual framework of Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory. The initial items were evaluated for content validity by 14 experts. Four hundred and eighty-six clinical nurses participated in this study through offline and online surveys to test the reliability and validity of the instrument. The first evaluation (n = 256) was used for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, and the second evaluation (n = 230) was used to conduct a confirmatory factor analysis and to assess the criterion-related validity and internal consistency of the instrument. Test-retest reliability was analyzed using data from 30 nurses. Results: The final instrument consisted of 30 items with two sub-factors for five needs that were identified through the confirmatory factor analysis. The criterion-related validity was established using the five need satisfaction measures (r = .56). Cronbach's α for total items was .90, and test-retest reliability was .89. Conclusion: The findings from this study indicate that this instrument has sufficient validity and reliability. This instrument can be used for the development of nursing interventions to improve the needs satisfaction of clinical nurses.

  • The structure performance of a sealed power facilities and the explosion simulation contains significant amounts of scatter, and variability has been characterized in material properties of the structure, a sealed space density, combustible gas volume, gas concentrativeness, ignition site, and gas volume. In order to deal with such uncertainties, structural reliability analysis calculates the failure probability and the reliability index relevant to selected limit states providing quantitative measures of these uncertainties. In this study, structure safety assessment method on the explosion of a sealed power facilities was proposed by using the response surface method (RSM).

Validity and Reliability of Translated Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue Scale for the Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (류마티스 관절염환자용 다차원적 피로척도의 타당도 및 신뢰도)

  • The purpose of this study was to validate translated Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue(MAF) scale. The scale is a 16-item scale that measures four dimensions of fatigue : severity, distress, impact, timing. Fourteen items are numerical rating scales and 2 items have multiple choice responses. Data were collected from the 137 patients with rheumatoid arthritis after content validation. Criterion validity was tested by correlation coefficient with Piper Fatigue Scale, which resulted in 0.7573(p<.0000). Construct validity was tested by item analysis and factor analysis. Corrected item-total correlation coefficients were 0.63-0.88. And factor analysis showed 2 factors : fatigue degree factor and fatigue impact factor. These two factors explained 73.5% of total variance. Reliability of internal consistency was 0.96 in Cronbach's alpha. Further validation study is necessary in each factor in other settings with other subjects.

Safety Assessment of LNG Transferring System subjected to gas leakage using FMEA and FTA

  • The paper considers the practical application of the FMEA(Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) method to assess the operational reliability of the LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) transfer system, which is a potential problem for the connection between the LNG FPSO and LNG carrier. Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard operability (HAZOP) are applied to identify the risks and hazards during the operation of LNG transfer system. The approach is performed for the FMEA to assess the reliability based on the detection of defects typical to LNG transfer system. FTA and FMEA associated with a probabilistic risk database to the operation scenarios are applied to assess the risk. After providing an outline of the safety assessment procedure for the operational problems of system, safety assessment example is presented, providing details on the fault tree of operational accident, safety assessment, and risk measures.

Enhanced Cube Network for the High Reliability (고 신뢰성 큐브 네트웍)

  • Multistage Interconnection networks (MIN) for the high performance computing and communications must be efficient and reliable. While a number of fault tolerance schemes have been developed, some of them are not efficient enough with respect to all evaluation measures or overheads of others are too significant. In this paper we develop a new efficient fault tolerant MIN which displays high reliability and fault tolerance capability using a simple structure. Structure and reliabilities of Enhanced Cube Network are evaluated and compared with previous designs to show the effectiveness of new design.
