Anomalies of the Healthcare Sector Using Workplace Safety and Job Satisfaction: A Case Study of Pakistan

  • This study aims to investigate the impact of workplace safety on doctors' retention and turnover intention along with job satisfaction as the mediator. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted with 394 medical doctors working in thirty-five hospitals in Pakistan using a structural equation modeling. Results of the study showed that: 1) workplace safety has a significant positive relationship with employee retention; 2) workplace safety has a significant negative relationship with turnover intention; 3) workplace safety has a significant positive relationship with job satisfaction; 4) job satisfaction has a significant positive relationship with employee retention; 5) job satisfaction has a significant positive relationship with turnover intentions; 6) job satisfaction mediates between workplace safety and employee retention; while 7) job satisfaction failed to mediate between workplace safety and turnover intentions. The findings of the study suggest that in a fear-free and safe environment, employees' chance to stay will increases. The study also suggests that dissatisfied employees do not need to leave the organization. There can be other factors that can be explored in future studies. This study also provides a practical implication for the doctors' low retention and high turnover, specifically in the healthcare sector of Pakistan by providing guidelines to the human resource executives to focus on the strategic implementation of workplace safety.

The Study on the Relationship between Perceived Service Employee Support and Customer Silence in Failure Situation (서비스 실패상황에서 서비스종업원지원인식과 고객침묵의 관계에 관한 연구)

  • This study examines the effects of perceived service employee support on customer's negative silence, defensive silence and acquiescent silence, and the effects of such negative silence on relationship retention intention. Through this, we would like to discuss the negative effects of customer's negative silence and suggest strategies to reduce negative silence. This study employed questionnaire survey. The total number of questionnaires used in the final analysis was 220. A structural equation model was used for hypothesis analysis. As a result, the perceived service employee support has a significant negative effect on the defensive silence and acquiescent silence in the failure situation. In addition, acquiescent silence had a significant negative effect on relationship retention intentions and defensive silence had no significant effect on relationship retention intentions. Acquiescent silence had a higher negative effect on relationship maintenance intention than defensive silence, indicating that acquiescent silence was worse than defensive silence.

The Study on the Relationship between Service Provider's Authenticity and Customer Voice in Service Failure Situation (서비스실패상황에서 서비스제공자의 진정성과 고객발언의 관계에 관한 연구)

  • This study examines the relationship between service provider's authenticity, customer voice, and customer behavior in failure situation. This study employed questionnaire survey and collected 216 data. The structural equation modeling (SEM) method is used to test the hypotheses of the study. As a result, the service provider's authenticity has a significant positive effect on the constructive voice of the customer and a negative effect on the destructive voice in the failure situation. In addition, constructive voice had a significant positive effect on relationship retention intentions and destructive voice had no significant effect on relationship retention intentions. This study suggests the importance of customer voice as well as the factors to increase customer positive voice in the failure situation and provides an opportunity to be interested in customer voice.

The Effects of Trust and Attachment to Hyper-Realistic Virtual Influencers on Behavioral Intentions: Based on the Trust-Building Model (초현실 가상인플루언서에 대한 신뢰와 애착이 행동의도에 미치는 영향: 신뢰구축모델을 기반으로)

  • Purpose Recently, hyper-realistic virtual influencers have received much attention in the field of corporate marketing. However, there is a lack of research that suggests specific processes affecting behavioral intentions through trust and attachment between virtual influencers and consumers. In addition, previous studies have failed to consider the characteristics of hyper-realistic virtual influencers. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of trust and attachment to hyper-realistic virtual influencers on consumers' behavioral intentions based on the trust-building model. Design/methodology/approach Based on the previous research, seven antecedent factors for trust-building were derived: Reality, Attractiveness, Awareness, Interactivity, Professionalism, Social Presence, and Predictability. Next, the survey was conducted on Chinese people who had experienced interacting with hyper-realistic virtual influencers on social network services within the last 3 months at the time of data collection. A total of 326 respondents were used for the final analysis and hypotheses were tested using a structural equation model technique. Findings The results of this study are as follows. First, this study confirmed that reality, attractiveness, awareness, social presence, and predictability as antecedent factors for trust-building of hyper-realistic virtual influencers have a positive effect on trust. Second, this study confirmed that trust in hyper-realistic virtual influencers has a significant positive effect on attachment. Lastly, this study confirmed that trust and attachment to the hyper-realistic virtual influencer significantly and positively affect relationship retention and purchase intentions.

A Structural Modeling for Switching Costs and Site Retention in Apparel Shopping Website (의류쇼핑 웹사이트 전환비용과 사이트 유지의 구조모델)

  • This study estimates a structural model to examine the causal relationships among web browsing, switching cost, and site retention in the context of apparel shopping website. A total of 499 usable questionnaires were obtained from consumers aged from 20 to 49 years. For data analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural model were used. The result showed that consumer's perceived switching costs consisted of three factors: relationship cost, search cost and benefit loss cost. In estimated structural model, the relationship cost was influenced by leisure browsing; the search cost was influenced by informational browsing and leisure browsing; the benefit loss cost was influenced by leisure browsing. Especially, the leisure browsing was the most highly related to the benefit loss cost, and followed by relationship cost and search cost. However, hedonic browsing was not significantly related the factors of switching costs. The search costs significantly affected customer's intentions for site retention. A managerial implication was discussed for e-retailers in order to develop strategic switching costs in building long-term relationships with web browsers on the apparel shopping websites.

IPTV in Korea: The Effect of Perceived Interactivity on Trust, Emotion, and Continuous Use Intention

  • The principal objective of the work is to confirm the effects of perceived interactivity, trust, and emotion on intentions to use IPTV service. The empirical investigation into IPTV service users suggests that (i) the perception of interactivity should be directly related with trust, (ii) Users' trust should bolster users' emotion in a positive or negative aspect, and (iii) such emotion is verified to affect the intention to use IPTV continuously. More specifically, we demonstrate that positive and negative emotions influence user intentions positively and negatively. Additionally, we find that the trust mediates perceived interactivity and emotions, and both trust and emotion mediate the relationship between perceived interactivity and intentions to use IPTV. The work indicates that trust and emotion of users should be considered from IS perspective in an attempt to build the intention to use IPTV. IPTV firms should consider in their IPTV design and offering strategy how to enhance positive emotions for user retention and eventually bolster intentions to use IPTV continuously.

The Effects of Internet Shopping Mall Attributes and Regret on the Complaining Behavior and Repurchase Intentions (인터넷 쇼핑몰 속성 지각과 후회가 불평 행동과 재구매 의도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study focused on examining methods for the favorable relationship between internet shopping mall and customers from a point of view that it was necessary for internet fashion market getting faced with keen competition to change its marketing focus from securing new customers to customer retention strategies. Measurement instruments were selected to measure these variables and a questionnaire was made. Data was collected in 491 men and women in their twenties residing in Gwangju city using the questionnaire. The analysis results were summarized as follows: First, in the failure to purchase fashion products in internet shopping mall, as consumer's favorable internet shopping attributes, their possibility of complaining and repurchase intentions became higher, and had negative effect on regret and dissatisfaction. Second, attributions of the result of a failure to purchase fashion products in internet shopping mall were found to increase regret and dissatisfaction. Third, customers experiencing regret and dissatisfaction showed a very high possibility of complaining but their possibility of repurchase intentions had negative affect.

Career Management and Employees Retention in Professional Service Organizations: An Empirical Study from Indonesia

  • The purpose of this study is to see how career management affects employee retention in professional service businesses (PSOs). The role of knowledge and skills as moderating variables in the relationship between career management and intention to stay is also investigated. A review of the literature on career management, which includes promotion, training, mentorship, starting salary, and the laxity-stringency of organizational entry-exit rules, leads to the hypothesis that career management positively affects employees' intentions to stay. Such a positive impact may differ between knowledgeable and skilled employees and their less knowledgeable and skilled counterparts. Cross-sectional data is obtained from 200 professionals working for various PSOs. Stepwise regression is employed to analyze the data. The research found that career management positively affects the intention to stay. The impact of promotion, training and mentorship on the intention to stay is moderated by knowledge and skills. Conversely, knowledge and skills do not moderate the effect of starting salary and the laxity-stringency of organizational entry-exit on intention to stay. The study's findings imply that by implementing effective career management, talented professionals can be retained. However, the level of knowledge and skills should be carefully considered. These findings offer significant insights into human capital management, particularly in PSOs.

Factors Affecting the Turnover Intentions of Small and Medium Construction IT Workers (중소건설 IT종사자의 이직의도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • It has been widely spread that the acquisition and retention of the core personnel is very important for improving firms' competitiveness. Many companies have made a lot of efforts to keep these core personnel, job embeddedness and work satisfaction are important factors which make effects on workers turnover. Prior research applying for many different industries do not show the consistent research results. There is no empirical research applying for construction IT industry which information technology has been playing more important role because of u-city etc. Therefore, in this research job embeddedness and work satisfaction are to be measured and the relationship with turnover intentions are to be investigated focusing on small and medium construction IT workers. The sub-constructs of job embeddedness are fit, links and sacrifice, and the sub-constructs of work satisfaction are career satisfaction and job satisfaction. It is empirically tested how these factors can have effects on the turnover intentions. Field surveys targeted to construction IT workers were done and finally 177 survey questionnaires were used to analyze. Research results show that if the sacrifice, career satisfaction and job satisfaction of small and medium construction IT workers are higher, turnover intentions will be lower. On the other hand, 2 hypotheses are rejected that if the fit and links of these workers are higher, turnover intentions will be lower. These research results clarified the factors affecting the turnover intentions of small and medium construction IT workers and can be utilized how turnover intentions can be decreased practically.

Moderating Effect of Health Motivation, Health Concern and Food Involvement on the Relationship between Consumption Value and Purchasing Intentions of Healthy Functional Food (건강기능식품 소비가치와 구매의도의 관계에 대한 건강동기, 건강염려, 식품몰입의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of consumption value on healthy functional food choice. Also, this study explored the role of health motivation, health concern, and food involvement as a moderating variable in the relationship between consumption value and healthy functional food choice. A total of 281 responses were collected using on-site survey (response rate 96.0%) from college students in Daegu, Gyeoungbuk Province. The questionnaire contained questions on consumption value, health motivation, health concern, food involvement, and purchasing intention of healthy functional food. The respondents rated the items using a 5-point scale from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). According to the confirmatory factor analysis, item evaluating using factor loading resulted in the retention of 25 consumption value items loading on seven factors, four health motivation items loading one factor, six health concern items loading on one factor, and four food involvement items loading on one factor with an internal consistency. Results of stepwise regression found that social value-I, emotional, functional, epistemic, and conditional values among consumption value determined the purchasing intention of healthy functional food. Results of hierarchical regression showed that health concern had a positive effect on the relationship between social value-I and purchasing intention of healthy functional food.
