International Diversification Effects on Korean Information Service Firms

  • Purpose - International diversification, a critical issue in research and practice, undoubtedly represents a growth strategy with great potential impact on firm performance. Although the literature has widely examined the relationship between international diversification and firm performance in international business and strategic management research, it remains unconfirmed. This study, therefore, aims to clarify the relationship as it relates to information service firms. Research design, data and methodology - To examine the international diversification-performance relationship, this study uses a sample of major Korean service firms spread over four industries spanning a period of five years between 2005 and 2009. In this study. generalized least square was used to analyze the relationship between international diversification and performance of service firms. Result - The result showed the U-shaped curvilinear form between international diversification and performance in service firms. Especially, IT service firms may differ from other service firms that the negative effect of internationality may have weaker than other types of service firm. Conclusion - Based on the empirical results, the U-shape relationship between international diversification and performance is confirmed in Korea service firms. Furthermore, information service firm may reduce the initial internationalization cost by transferring codified and digitized information using information and communication technology, so that gain benefit from early international expansion.

스타 인재의 비율과 증권사 재무성과의 관계에 대한 연구 - 국내 증권사의 애널리스트를 중심으로 - (The Relationship between Star Employee Ratio and Firm Performance: An Analysis of Korean Sell-Side Analysts)

  • 외부 환경의 불확실성이 점점 더 높아지는 가운데 조직의 경쟁우위를 달성하기 위한 방안으로 우수한 인적자원의 확보 및 보유가 점차 중요시되고 있다. 특히, 동료 직원들에 비해 몇 배나 높은 탁월한 성과를 창출할 수 있는 '스타 인재'는 지식과 정보가 중시되는 지식기반산업에서 점차 그 중요성이 강조되고 있어 이에 관련된 학계와 산업계의 관심이 증대되고 있다. 하지만 이처럼 스타 인재에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있음에도 불구하고 스타 인재의 보유가 조직성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석한 선행연구는 부족한 편이다. 특히 스타 인재의 보유가 조직 내외부에 미치는 긍정적 부정적 영향력을 고려할 때, 조직 내 스타 인재의 비율(ratio of star employee)과 조직성과의 관계는 단순 선형 관계(simple linear relationship)의 가능성 뿐 아니라 비선형의 곡선형 관계(curvilinear relationship)가 존재할 가능성도 가지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 스타 인재에 관한 선행 연구를 토대로, 스타 인재의 비율이 증가함에 따라 한계효과가 증가하는 체증관계(U자형 곡선)와 한계효과가 감소하는 체감관계(역U자형 곡선)의 두 가지 대립가설을 설정한 후 국내 34개 상장증권사의 2008~2013년 134개 관측수를 대상으로 실증분석을 진행하였다. 국내 경제전문지가 선정한 '베스트 애널리스트'(스타 인재)의 비율이 증권사의 재무성과에 미치는 영향을 불균형 패널모형으로 검증한 결과, 스타 인재의 비율이 증가할수록 조직성과는 증가하지만, 그 한계효과는 점차 감소하는 체감형 비선형 관계가 검증되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 지식기반 산업에서도 스타 인재를 활용하는 것이 중요함을 시사함과 동시에, 스타 인재에 대한 과도한 의존은 경계할 필요성이 있음을 시사한다.

국내 패션기업과 협력업체와의 관계에서 신뢰와 몰입에 영향을 미치는 변인: 관계 기간의 조절 효과 (Antecedents and consequences of trust and commitment in apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships: The moderating role of length of relationship)

  • This study examined regarding the moderating effect of length of relationship in the relationship among the antecedent variables (i.e., specific investment, opportunistic behavior, communication, uncertainty, interdependence, power imbalance, shared value, and flexibility) of trust and commitment, trust and commitment and firm performance and relationship satisfaction. A total of 128 apparel manufacturers participated in this study. Flexibility exerted the most positive effect on trust in short-term relationship, followed by specific investment. And opportunistic behavior was found to exert negative effect on trust. Commitment was found to be most negatively affected by power imbalance, followed by interdependence. Trust was shown to be significantly affected by communication, shared value and flexibility in short-term relationship. In the case of long-term relationship, commitment was shown to be significantly affected by uncertainty, interdependence, power imbalance and flexibility. Firm performance was positively affected by both trust and commitment. As for the effect of trust and commitment on relationship satisfaction, relationship satisfaction was also affected by both trust and commitment. In case the length of relationship, firm performance was affected by both trust and commitment. As for the effect of trust and commitment on relationship satisfaction, relationship satisfaction was also affected by both trust and commitment. The result of this research provides valuable data for making a concrete suggestion regarding the strategy for improving trust and commitment for the sake of the desirable relationship between apparel manufacturers and contractors.

캐주얼웨어 대리점의 경영성과에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors Affecting Performance of Casual Wear Franchise Stores)

  • The main purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting performance of casual wear franchise stores including franchiser support and social network between owners/managers. The study included the franchise stores of 55 casual wear brands located in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi-do. In each store, one manager, owner or staff member with management responsibility was asked to fill out a questionnaire. A total of 184 questionnaires were collected with 165 used in the final analysis. The results showed that franchiser support consisted of educational support, marketing support and customer support. Path analysis indicated that only the educational support had a significant influence on the franchiser-franchise relationship, and in turn, the franchiser-franchise relationship positively influenced customer performance. Marketing support did not have a significant influence on the franchiser-franchise relationship, but did demonstrate a direct influence on customer performance. Social networks positively influenced customer performance, and there was significant a correlation between regions and social networks on customer performance. Sales performance was significantly influenced by customer performance.

기업간 관계자산 특유성이 전자적 협력과 성과에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Relationship-specificity of Invested Assets on Electronic Collaboration and Firm's Performance in Small and Medium Enterprises)

  • This study tries to explain how the relationship-specificity of invested assets affects E-collaboration and consequently on performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). We classify the relationship-specificity of invested assets into four types such as business process specificity, physical asset specificity, domain knowledge specificity, and site specificity. We define E-collaboration as composed of Electronic Information Sharing (EIS) and Electronic Cooperation (E-Co). In addition, we articulate firm's performance as operational and strategic one, and investigate the impacts of EIS and E-Co on its performance. The data were collected from 187 SMEs and used for analysis. Based on the survey results, we find the following: (1) EIS is directly influenced by business process specificity and physical asset specificity, (2) E-Co is affected by site specificity and domain knowledge specificity, (3) EIS has a positive and significant impact on E-Co, (4) EIS affects firm's operational performance, (5) E-Co influences on firm's strategic performance. In conclusions, the higher the level of EIS, SMEs seem to get greater operational performance, Respectively, the higher the level of E-Co, they tend to get greater strategic performance.

물류서비스품질과 관계지향성이 공급사슬성과에 미치는 영향 - 3PL 기업의 물류배송품질을 중심으로 - (The Effects of Logistics Service Quality and Relationship Orientation on Supply Chain Performance - Focusing on Delivery Quality of 3PL Firms -)

  • In this study, we will conduct an empirical study to see how the 3PL firm's logistics service quality and relationship orientation affects the supply chain performance. To examine the research model and hypotheses, we have used an empirical method based on the field survey in which most of measurements used and verified in previous studies are selected as measurements. The results of our empirical study can be summarized as follows: First, it can be shown that higher level of logistics service quality not only affects satisfaction and relationship orientation positively, but also improves supply chain performance. Second, it can be also shown that satisfaction for logistics service quality affects relationship orientation between shipper and 3PL firm positively. Finally, it can be shown that relationship orientation affects supply chain performance positively. This paper presents much implications both theoretical and practical side.

치과관리자의 코칭행동과 치과위생사의 직무만족도, 업무성과와의 관계분석 (The Relationship between Coaching Behaviors of Dental Managers, Job Satisfaction and Job Performance of Dental Hygienists)

  • This study had collected 171 dental hygienists working in Busan and Ulsan, in order to investigate coaching behavior, job satisfaction and job performance of dental hygienists and find relationship between these. A survey was conducted from July 10 through August 20, 2012, by using structured, self-administered questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The mean of dental manager's coaching behavior was 3.35 out of 5. In terms of sub-domain, accountability(3.36) is the highest, followed by relationship(3.32), and development(3.20). 2. In multiple regression analysis, development factor is most influential factor of job satisfaction, followed by relationship, accountability. 3. The job performance was under the greatest influence of the patient relationship, followed by freedom factor.

  • 사회적 자본과 관련한 기존의 연구들은 주로 사회적 자본이 혁신성과에 미치는 영향을 규명해 왔다. 그러나 이러한 선행연구들은 사회적 자본이 혁신성과에 어떠한 단계를 거쳐 영향을 미치는가에 관한 중간과정을 블랙박스(black box)로 가정하고 있다. 지식기반관점에 따르면 혁신은 상호의존 관계에 있는 행위자들 간의 지식의 교환과정의 결과로써 가능할 수 있다. 다른 의미로, 혁신창출은 사회적 자본과 같은 무형자원이 구성원 간의 지식관리 활동을 유발하게 되고, 이러한 지식관리 활동은 혁신창출의 원동력이 된다. 그리고 혁신달성을 통한 관계만족이 지속적인 관계투자를 가능하게 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 사회적 자본에서 출발하여 관계투자로 이어지는 연구가설을 설정하였다. 실증분석의 결과를 살펴보면, 혁신 성과에 미치는 지식공유의 영향을 제외하고, 모든 설정된 가설은 유의적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 혁신 성과 달성은 중소기업에게 관계만족을 증가시켜 지속적인 관계투자를 가져오는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 경영전략 측면에서 기업의 지식관리 활동의 중요성을 제시하고 있다.

사내기업가정신이 조직성과에 미치는 영향: 시장지향성과 급진적 혁신의 매개효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Corporate Entrepreneurship on the Organizational Performance: Focused on the Mediating Effects of Market Orientation and Radical Innovation)

  • The purpose of this study includes: Firstly, to examine the effects of corporate entrepreneurship on market orientation, radical innovation, and organizational performance. Secondly, to examine the mediating effect of the market orientation, radical innovation on the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and organizational performance. In order to verify the relationships and mediating effect, data were collected from convenient sample of 269 employees at small and medium enterprises in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongju city to test theoretical model and its hypotheses. All data collected from the survey were analyzed using with SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. This study reports findings as followed: first, the relationship between the corporate entrepreneurship and the market orientation is positively related. Second, there was also a positive correlation between the corporate entrepreneurship and the radical innovation. Third, there was also a positive correlation between the market orientation and the radical innovation. Fourth, the relationship between the market orientation and the organizational performance is positively related. Fifth, there was also a positive correlation between the corporate entrepreneurship and the organizational performance. Sixth, there was also a positive correlation between the radical innovation and the organizational performance. Finally, the market orientation played as a partial mediator on the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and radical innovation. The market orientation and radical innovation played as a partial mediator on the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and organizational performance. Also, the radical innovation played as a partial mediator on the relationship between market orientation and organizational performance. Based on these findings, the limitations of the study and some directions for future studies were presented.

대학도서관 통계항목과 평가항목의 상관적 관계에 관한 연구 (The Relationship between Statistical and Performance Measuring Indicators of Academic Libraries)

  • 도서관통계와 평가의 관련성이 국제표준안, 업무활동 영역, 항목간의 유사성 면에서 깊고, 불가분의 관계 속에 있음에도 한국 대학도서관의 통계와 평가는 생산단계 및 활용 면에서 전혀 연계되어 있지 않다. 이를 증명하기 위하여 국제표준, 통계데이터를 살펴 두 항목간에 연계적 상관관계를 살펴보아 정량적 데이터의 45%정도의 중복도가 있음을 밝혔다. 반면 기존의 국내 통계 항목과 평가 항목간에는 14-26%의 관계가 있으며, 새로이 연구 개발된 대학도서관통계 실용안에서는 상당히 발전된 관계성을 발견하였으며, 반면 상당한 특정성도 발견되었다. 이제 대학도서관통계 온라인시스템 개발단계에서 통계시스템의 목적 외에 평가시스템정보를 제공한다는 면을 고려하여 항목간의 포괄적 정보가 제공되도록 개발하는 것이 필요하다.
