  • Escalating rate of working women is increasing the necessity for day-care centers. Moreover, insufficient child-care system is known as one of many factors that relate to the seriously low birth-rate of our society. Therefore providing more adequate day-care centers can not be regarded as a mere personal necessity but a social need to be considered at corporate and governmental level. The current study analyzes 'Reggio-emilia teaching method' which is a type of early childhood educational program and its relationship to the built environment. It also examines current interior spaces of Reggio-emilia day-care centers and suggests designs for an day-care center appropriate for educating children in Korea.

  • Background/Aims: Colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is burdened by its associated high risk of adverse events and long procedure time. Recently, a waterjet-assisted knife was introduced to simplify and speed up the procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of waterjet-assisted ESD (WESD) compared to that of the conventional ESD (CESD) technique. Methods: The charts of 254 consecutive patients who underwent colorectal ESD between January 2014 and February 2021 for colorectal neoplasms were analyzed. The primary outcome was the en-bloc resection rate. Secondary outcomes were complete and curative resection rates, the need to switch to a hybrid ESD, procedure speed, the adverse event rates, and the recurrence rates. Results: Approximately 174 neoplasias were considered, of which, 123 were removed by WESD and 51 by CESD. The en-bloc resection rate was higher in the WESD group (94.3% vs. 84.3%). Complete resection rates and curative resection rates were similar. The need to switch to a hybrid ESD was greater during CESD (39.2% vs. 13.8%). Procedure speed and adverse event rates were similar. During follow-up, one recurrence occurred after a WESD. Conclusions: WESD allows a high rate of en-bloc resections and less frequently requires a rescue switch to the hybrid ESD compared to CESD.

  • Purpose: This study is to suggest a direction for comprehensive planning of educational environment in which children's cognitive development and emotional needs are achieved in childcare facilities. The importance of educational environment in childcare facilities has increased since it was discovered that high quality educational environment can not be guaranteed in current childcare facilities while the number of women participating in labor force, hence the number of children spending most of their time in these facilities is rapidly increasing. Methods: Correlation analysis on Reggio Emilia Approach to education environment and Max Luscher's psychological healing theory, and case study. Results: The result of the correlation analysis, the 4 key elements of educational environment and the 4 emotional status have significant relationship. Based on the elements of educational environment in Reggio Emilia Approach, case studies were pursued in 3 different childcare facilities in Korea. Implications: Evaluation of these case studies addresses the important elements to be considered in comprehensive planning of the educational environment in childcare facilities.

  • The aerodynamics of blunt bodies with separation at the sharp corner of the leading edge and reattachment on the body side are particularly important in civil engineering applications. In recent years, a number of experimental and numerical studies have become available on the aerodynamics of a rectangular cylinder with chord-to-thickness ratio equal to 5 (BARC). Despite the interest in the topic, a widely accepted set of guidelines for grid generation about these blunt bodies is still missing. In this work a new, well resolved Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) around the BARC body at Re=3000 is presented and its results compared to previous DNSs of the same case but with different numerical approaches and mesh. Despite the simulations use different numerical approaches, mesh and domain dimensions, the main discrepancies are ascribed to the different grid spacings employed. While a more rigorous analysis is envisaged, where the order of accuracy of the schemes are kept the same while grid spacings are varied alternately along each spatial direction, this represents a first attempt in the study of the influence of spatial resolution in the Direct Numerical Simulation of flows around elongated rectangular cylinders with sharp corners.

  • Since the importance of early education has been emphasized the Reggio preschools based on the philosophy of open education has been recreated in Korean culture. The Reggio Emilia approach to education is committed to the creation of conditions for learning that will enhance and facilitate children's construction of their own powers of thinking. Dream and hope of children are reflected in every where of the Reggio preschools that great attention is given to the look and feel of the classroom and environment is considered the‘third teacher.’ The results of the kindergarten design as a way of expressing direct, indirect and eclectic images using nature, that natural elements can become the elements of design in any form, and that nature's images are expressed by not only natural and artificial materials. In addition, safety and harmony with adjacent outdoors are also importantly considered in kindergarten design. Even though there were some limitations on this planning, the findings can be utilized as a basis for generating interior environmental recommendations for planning a better quality of kindergarten.

  • This paper analyzed historical changes in early childhood curriculums from the 19th century to the present. The early childhood curriculum model of the past was based on a modernistic perspective characterized by science, rationality, objectivity, absolutism, and universality. It had been developed in terms of early human resource development to maximize efficiency and rationality for the future. In recent years, however, change occurred in the paradigm of education with the application of phenomenology, analytics, and postmodernism. Newer models for early childhood curriculum include the Reggio Emilia and Developmentally Appropriate Practice, which constitute the current mainstream of early childhood curriculum.

  • By using a recursive algorithm, we construct edge-coloured graphs representing products of spheres and consequently we give upper bounds for the regular genus of ${\mathbb{S}}^{m}\;\times\;{\mathbb{S}}^{n}$, for each m, n > 0.

  • The glass frit has been used in transparent dielectric, barrier rib and electrode of PDP (Plasma display panel). In PDP fabrication, the firing temperature of glass frit is normally 550~$580^{\circ}C$ with conventional heating. However, there are a problem that silver in electrode is diffused throughout the transparent dielectric. For inhibiting the Ag diffusion we considered use of the microwave heating. We investigated firing of glass frit compared between conventional and microwave heating. After firing by two types of heating, the diffusion of silver is determined using a optical microscope and UV-spectrometer. Based on the our results, the microwave heating should be a candidate to heating source for high efficacy in PDP.
