In the automotive industry, such as scrap metal and plastic scrap process is being recycled. Although the glass beads are used as road paving or other additives and processing crushing, recycling is known that there are limits. The utilization of waste glass was evaluated as a concrete admixture by using powder characteristics and chemical composition of the glass. As a result of using waste-glass powder as an admixture, it is difficult to expect the pozzolanic effect, but it is found that it can increase the fluidity of concrete and ensure the durability performance in the appropriate amount range.

With the aid of advanced structural engineering, the construction of infrastructures has been recently accelerating to keep up with rapid economic growth. Construction activities and operation of transportation facilities cause civil petitions associated with vibration-induced damages or nuisances. As part of the decrease of vibration induced damage, the objective of this study is to develop vibration-controlled concrete with vibration-reduced materials, which can be recycled from obsolete materials, such as aged tires, plastics and etc. Appropriate mix proportion has been used for making 10 reinforced concrete panels with vibration-reduced materials, which have been tested to investigate on vibration reduction capability, based on the time and frequency domain analysis, and vibration velocity level analysis. Vibration-reduced mixtures are latex, styrofoam, rubber powder and plastic resin, which have been determined to by reduce vibration.
Plastics waste constitutes approximately 23% by volume of the municipal solid waste(MSW) generated in the U.S. each year, and have slow rate of degradation in the environment. Therefore, there is a great deal of public pressure to recycle plastics, and more than 100 million people participate in the curbside recycling programs. Despite the high level of public interest, only 3.5% of the plastic are recycled, which is substantially lower than the recycle rates of other materials such as paper fibers, glass, and iron. Although a large part of the reason is due to the low price of virgin polymers, which in turn is due to the low price of oil, it is possible to make the plastics recycling as a profitable business by developing advanced technologies. In this communication, various methods of separating pplastics from metals and from each other are discussed.
Polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) from bottle waste and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) from barrels and tanks waste are widely available and need to be recycled. Recycling them in concrete and mortar is an alternative solution for their disposal. In this study various quantities of sand (5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) were substituted by powder from LLDPE waste. In addition, PET waste fibers (corrugated, straight) were added to the mortar with different percentages (0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2%) of cement mass. This paper evaluate the mechanical and physical properties of the composites in fresh (workability, air content and density) and hardened state (compressive and flexural strength, water absorption and total shrinkage). From the experimental results, it can be concluded that the strengthening in tensile of the mortar with plastic waste corrugated fibers is improved. Other important results are that the water absorption and the density rate are less than that of the ordinary mortar.

Recently, many researches on bottom ash which is produced in the burning process of power plant are actively performed for its utilization for soil-subbase materials. In this paper, bottom ashes from 5 different power plants are prepared and several tests including compaction, CBR, and tri-axial compression are carried out for mixed bottom ash and weathered soil considering 3 replacement ratio of 30%, 50%, and 70%. Through the tests, CBR result over 20 are evaluated without plastic property, which shows availability of subbase material. With higher increase in replacement ratio of bottom ash, CBR of mixed soil increases due to the higher mechanical performance of bottom ash. However, replacement effects of bottom ash on friction angle and cohesion are evaluated to be little since bottom ash plays a little role in rearrangement of mixed soil. Bottom ash with a good mechanical property is evaluated to have reasonable bearing capacity which shows a good property for subbase materials.

Concrete members with wide surface area are vulnerable to cracking due to material behavior such as hydration heat and drying shrinkage. Recently many researches have been performed on improvement of strength and cracking resistance through fiber reinforcement, which are mainly focused on enhancement of tensile strength against cracking due to material behavior. In this paper, CFs(Cellulous Fibers) are manufactured for slurry type, and the engineering properties in cement mortar incorporated with CFs are evaluated for flow-ability, compressive, and flexural strength. Through SEM analysis, a pull-off characteristics of CF in matrix are analyzed. With CF addition of $0.5kg/m^3{\sim}1.0kg/m^3$, flexural strength is much improved and enough toughness of pull-off is also observed unlike plastic fiber containing smooth surface.

In this paper, it was evaluated that the effect of self-healing microcapsules on the quality and healing properties of cement composites. In the mixing of microcapsules, the plastic viscosity and yield stress of the cement composites decreased due to the particle properties of the microcapsules, and decreased in proportion to the mixing ratio. The table flow showed a tendency to decrease as the core material acted as a stimulant due to the loss of microcapsules, and the compressive strength could be supplemented through unit quantity correction. As a result of evaluating the effect of microcapsule mixing on the healing properties of cement composites, it was found that the unit water flow rate decreased by the healing reaction immediately after crack initiation. When more than 3% of microcapsules were mixed, it was found that there was a healing rate of more than 95% at 7 days of healing age.

In this study, it was reviewed that the effect of solid capsules on the quality of surface repair materials and the healing properties of long-term aging, as part of a study to utilize self-healing surface repair materials using solid capsules as repair materials. As a result of evaluation of the rheological properties of self-healing surface repair materials according to the mixing of solid capsules, plastic viscosity, yield stress, and table flow tended to decrease. In the case of compressive strength, 1MPa per 1% of the solid capsule decreased proportionally. As a result of evaluating the long-term healing properties, when 10% of solid capsules were mixed, a healing rate of 90% was shown at 28 days of healing, because the solid capsule was preserved even after 91 days of age had elapsed. after 91 days of healing, even in the case of 5% of solid capsules, a healing rate of 90% was shown.

In this study, the mechanical property of anti-fouling coating using CNF was evaluated to prevent the durability and stability of structure exposed the marine environment. Anti-fouling coating using CNF was prepared by CNF, AKD and waste glass powder, and contact angle test, drying time, viscosity analysis and microstructure were performed. When coating on one number of times, It was showed to relatively high hydrophobic performance in steel. And It was confirmed that the contact angle increased as the content of AKD increased in cement mortar. When coating on three number of times, the surface was confirmed super-hydrophobic at maximum of 151.6°. When mixing waste glass powder, the surface was showed to relatively high hydrophobic. It is pseudo plastic fluid when CNF and distilled water were prepared in a ratio of 1:1, And Anti fouling coating is judged to be suitable for use as coating on marine structure.

Various failure modes occur in the concrete beams reinforced with GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) under initial condition and repairing patterns. In this study, the failure behaviors of concrete beams restrengthened with GFRP sheet with slightly higher elastic modulus than concrete were investigated. For the tests, concrete beams with 24 MPa were manufactured, and the effects of initial notch, overlapping, end-strip reinforcement, and fiber anchors were analyzed on failure load. The cases of GFRP overlap around notch and the initial notch showed increasing failure loads similar to those of normal restrengthened case since the epoxy of the saturated GFRP sufficiently repaired the notch area. Compared to the control case without restrengthening of GFRP, the concrete with initial notch showed 0.78 of loading ratio and normal restrengthening showed 4.43~5.61 times of increasing ratio of failure loading, where interface-debonding from flexural crack were mainly observed. The most ideal failure behavior, break of GFRP, was observed when end-strip over 1/3 height from bottom and fiber anchor were installed, which showed increasing failure load over 150 % to normal restrengthening.
