  • In this paper an energy method is presented for the linear buckling analysis of first order shear deformable plates. The displacement fields are defined in terms of the shape functions, which correspond to a set of predefined points and are composed of significantly high order polynomials. The locations of these points are found by mapping the geometry using the naturalized coordinates and bilinear shape functions. In order to evaluate the method, fully clamped and simply supported rectangular plates subjected to uniform uniaxial compressive loading on two opposite edges of the plate are investigated thoroughly and the results are compared with the exact solution given in the monograph of Timoshenko and Gere (1961). The method is extended to the analysis of perforated plates, wherein the negative stiffness computed over the opening area from in-plane and out-of-plane deformation modes is superimposed to the stiffness of the full plate. Numerical results are then favorably compared with those obtained by finite element methods. Other cases such as; rectangular plates with eccentrically located openings of different shapes are studied and reported in this paper with regards to the effect of aspect ratio, hole size, and hole position on the buckling. For a square plate with a large circular opening at the center, diameter being 80 percent of the length, the present method yields buckling coefficient 12.5 percent higher than the one from the FEM.

  • For the efficient performance of steel and composite building structures subjected to strong earthquake, one of current research investigates the cyclic behavior of open-web composite beams. Both experimental test and nonlinear FEM analysis demonstrate their behavior so ductile that four T-sections around the corners of rectangular web-opening develop plastic hinges prior to potential brittle failure at the beam end, i.e. at the column face. This research proposes simplified equations for determining strength and initial stiffness of composite beams with a rectangular web-opening, and compares its results with those of experimental test and nonlinear FEM analysis.

Free vibration analysis that tapered thick plate in this paper. Finite element analysis of rectangular plate is done by use of rectangular finite element with 8-nodes. In order to analysis plate which is varioued of plate thickness. the thickness is varied with 5, 10, 15, 20 and the tapered ratio is applied as 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0 respectively. This paper is analyzed varying thickness by taper ratio.

  • The objective of this research is to study experimentally and numerically the behavior of steel beam columns with openings. Although the presence of openings in the beam columns is inevitable, finding ways to maintain strength is crucial. The studied parameters are opening shape, the ratio between opening height to specimen height, the percentage of opening location from support to beam column length, and web slenderness. Experimental tests are conducted including twelve specimens to study the effect of these parameters and record failure load, load deflection curve, and stress strain curve. Two failure modes are observed: local and flexural buckling. Interaction curves plotted from finite element model analysis are also used to expand the parametric study. Changing the location of the opening can decrease failure load by up to 7% and 60% in both normal and moment ratios respectively. Increasing the opening dimension can lead to a drop in the axial ratio by up to 29% and in the moment ratio by up to 74%. The weakest beam column behavior is noticed in specimens with rectangular openings which results from uneven and concentrated stresses around the opening. The main results of this research illustrate that the best location for opening is at 40% - 50% from beam column support. Also, it is advisable to use circular openings instead of rectangular openings in specimens having slender webs because moment ratios are raised by 85% accompanied by a rise in normal ratios by 9%.

  • On condition that opening located at high shear strength position in H-shaped steel beams with web opening, beams are structurally to be frailed so necessity and efficiency of vertical reinforcement to add horizontal reinforcement already published ahead study. Up to the present study of web opening beams, limited one opening which located in comparatively small shear strength position. But frequently opening area is enlargement by necessity, so width of opening is larger by limit of depth or increasing number of opening. This study carry out experiment to make efficient reinforcing method about strength and deformation of steel beams with web openings. Parameters of this study are openings location, ratio of opening width within opening height and various reinforcing types.

  • This paper is analysis of stiffened opening thick plate on foundation. This paper has the object of investigating natural frequencies of opening thick plates on Pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing Kinematic design data for mat of building structures. In this paper, vibration analysis of rectangular opening thick plate is done by use of Serendipity finite element with 8 nodes by considering shearing strain of plate. And vibration analysis of stiffener is done by used of Timoshenko beam-column element wit 3 nodes. It is shown that natural frequencies depend on not only Winkler foundation parameter but also shear foundation parameter, opening position, opening size, stiffener size.

  • Based on an experimental study, this study provides an equation to describe the shear strength of high-strength concrete deep beams with rectangular openings and without web reinforcements. Twenty-four concrete deep beams were tested with the variables of concrete strength, size of web opening, and shear span-to-depth ratio. The proposed equation is expressed as the sum of the shear strength provided by longitudinal bars and concrete. It is illustrated that the proposed equation predicts the load-carrying capacity of the deep beams more properly than the experimental equations proposed by other researchers.

  • This study represents numerical analysis in top opening rectangular with a heating source. The governing equations were solved by a finite volume method, a SIMPLE algorithm was adopted to solve a pressure term. The top boundary with free surface was calculated by energy balance condition. As the results of simulations, the magnitudes of the velocity vectors and isotherms were very small at the lower space of a heating source. The mean Nusselt numbers are increased proportionally to the Grashof number, the heat transfer at Y/H=0.25 was greater than other positions.

  • This study is an experimental study to investigate the shear behavior of reinforced concrete shear walls with openings and to determine the shear strength of those walls. This paper compares rigidities of walls with opening by different opening types. The experimental results, as expected, show that the crack load, yield load, and limited load are inferior for specimen with larger opening area. The magnitude of axial stress and shear stress had a significant effect on the deformability of shear walls with opening.
