  • Databases can crash due to various failures in computer systems. Recovery is a mechanism for restoring consistent data from damages caused by the by the failures and is an essential feature in database systems. This paper surveys recovery techniques for memory resident database systems. We first describe the basic architecture for memory resident database systems, and point out the main factors affecting their performance enhancement. Next, we explain the write-ahead logging(WAL), a recovery technique widely-used in most disk resident database systems, for easy understanding of basic recovery mechanisms. And then, we discuss some new concepts employed in memory resident database systems recovery. Finally, we present a representative memory resident database recovery technique, which is based on a special purpose hardware called HALO, as a case study.

  • A high speed address recovery technique for AC plasma display panel(PDP) is proposed. Replacing GND switch by clamping diode. the recovery speed can be increased by saving GND hold-time and switching loss due to GND switch also becomes also be reduced. The proposed method is able to perform load-adaptive operation by controlling the voltage level of energy recovery capacitor, which prevents increasing inefficient power consumption caused by circuit loss during recovery operation. Test results with 50' HD single-scan PDP(resolution = 1366$\times$768) show that less than 3sons of recovery time is successfully accomplished and about$54\%$ of the maximum power consumption can be reduced, tracing minimum power consumption curves.

  • Recently, with a drop in memory chip price and rapid development of mass storage memory chip technology, research on client-server Database Management Systems has gained wide attention. This Paper discusses the recovery technique in a page-server OODBMS environment. Although most researchers have studied client-server systems, the recovery technique has been a poor researches. In this paper, client transfers only the completed log records to the server and resolves the problems in the current recovery techniques. In addition, the server manages only the execution of completed log records suggesting a simple recover algorithm, Client uses system concurrency, fully, by acting to abort actions and it suggests a page unit recovery technique to reduce time that is required in the whole database.

  • In this paper, we propose an extension method of the BR2K technique for enhancing the robustness of blockchain application services. The BR2K (Blockchain application, Replication & Recovery technique using Kubernetes) technique was recently developed to support the robustness of blockchain services through service replication and rapid restart. The proposed technique extends the existing BR2K technique to provide a state version, which is meta-information about the service state, and a method for safely managing it, and use the state version to determine the timing for service state recovery. Also, the technique provides systematic service state backup for service recovery and joining of new service nodes by utilizing the version information and the service registry which acts as a service recovery center in the BR2K technique. Based on this, it is possible to support new service nodes to join the replication service with consistency. As a result, new service nodes can be quickly added to the BR2K service in operation, enhancing the robustness of the BR2K service. In addition, the extended method is applied to the pilot blockchain application service and tested in a Kubernetes environment composed of virtual machines to confirm the validity of service replication consistency and rapid service recovery in the event of node failures.

  • The performance of a carrier recovery is severely degraded because of amplitude fluctuations and random phases of the received signai caused by multipath fading in mobile radio channel. In this paper, we present two kinds of carrier recovery technique using pilot tone such as TCT(Tone Calibration Technique) and DTCT(Dual Tone Calibration Technique) and analyze these performance both in Rayleigh and Rician fadings. we also evaluate the BER performance of two carrier recovery systems in terms of design parameters such as pilot-to-singnal power ratio, and detection filter-to-pilot filter bandwidth ratio.

  • Lifetime control technique by proton implantation has become an useful tool for production of modern power devices. In this work, punch-through type diodes were irradiated with protons for the high speed power diode fabrication. Proton irradiation which was capable of controlling carrier's lifetime locally was carried out at the various energy and dose conditions. Characterization of the device was performed by current-voltage, capacitance-voltage and reverse recovery time measurement. We obtained enhanced reverse recovery time characteristics which was about $45\;\%$ of original device reverse recovery time and about $73\;\%$ of electron irradiated device reverse recovery time. The measurement results showed that proton irradiation technique was able to effectively reduce minority carrier lifetime without degrading the other characteristics.

  • This paper describes a CMOS data recovery circuit using oversampling technique. Digital oversampling is done using a delay locked loop circuit locked to multiple clock periods. The delay locked loop circuit generates the vernier delay resolution less than the gate delay of the delay chain. The transition and non-transition counting algorithm for 4x oversampling was implemented for data recovery and verified through FPGA. The chip has been fabricated with 0.6um CMOS technology and measured results are presented.

  • In this paper, a newsynchronization technique applied to burst-mode communication is proposed. A synchronization technique is to estimate carrier frequency and phase offsets in a noisy channel environment. A fundamental problem for estimating the parameters(carrier phase and frequency offsets) in burst-mode transmission is that the ways of pursuing estimation accuracy and transmission efficiency are always trade-off. To solve this problem, a new carrier recovery technique is proposed to improve the transmission efficiency with reliable performance especially at low S/N. In the proposed technique, the synchronization parameters are first estimated based on a data-aided feed-forward estimation scheme. Then, a phase tracker using decision-directed DPLL estimates the phase offset for the data portion of the burst data. From simulation results, it shows fast synchronization with shorter preamble maintaining reasonable BER performance at low S/N.

  • In this paper, a new high step up DC/DC converter with a modified super-lift technique is presented. The coupled inductor technique is combined with the super-lift technique to provide a tenfold or more voltage gain with a proper duty cycle and a low turn ratio. Due to a high conversion ratio, the voltage stress on the semiconductor devices is reduced. As a result, low voltage ultra-fast recovery diodes and low on resistance MOSFET can be used, which improves the reverse recovery problems and conduction losses. This converter employs a passive clamp circuit to recycle the energy stored in the leakage inductance. The proposed convertor features a high conversion ratio with a low turn ratio, low voltage stress, low reverse recovery losses, omission of the inrush currents of the switch capacitor loops, high efficiency, small volume and reduced cost. This converter is suitable for renewable energy applications. The operational principle and a steady-state analysis of the proposed converter are presented in details. A 200W, 30V input, 380V output laboratory prototype circuit is implemented to confirm the theoretical analysis.

  • With the development of smart on-devices and communication technology, demand for non-stop services is increasing. Therefore, the high availability for continuously providing services in the event of system failure has been spotlighted. Meanwhile, because most internet-based services are provided by using TCP, an efficient TCP session recovery technique for providing non-stop services is required. However, the existing TCP session recovery techniques are inefficient because it has a high recovery cost or does not support failover operation, To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a TCP session recovery technique for high availability in smart on-devices. For this, we first recover the TCP session without re-establish the TCP session by correcting a sequence number and a acknowledgment number. Second, we synchronize the TCP session recovery data between the master and the server, and then we operate the failover operation when master server fails. Finally, we provide the non-stop service to peer by using the virtual IP number and the transmission of GARP (Gratuitous ARP) packet.
