  • This study was conducted to examine the mediating effects of marital satisfaction and depression on the relationship between self-identity and reasons for living in middle-aged women. For this, a survey was conducted on 200 middle-aged women. As a result, first, there was a significant positive correlation between self-identity, marital satisfaction, depression, and reasons for living. Second, the marital satisfaction had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between self-identity and the reasons for living of middle-aged women. Third, depression had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between self-identity and reasons for living. Fourth, the multiple mediating effect of marital satisfaction and depression was statistically significant in the relationship between self-identity and reasons for living in middle-aged women. Based on these results, we discussed the importance of the self-identity of middle-aged women and the role of spouses as significant other partners, and suggested ways to overcome the crisis of middle-aged women.

  • Some progress has been made in the study of the category coherence effect, which states that the attributes of soldiers or nuns with similarities in dress and behavior, and easily distinguished from other categories, are likely to be generalized. However, few studies have examined the fundamental psychological mechanisms that underlie this category coherence effect, and this study aims to fill this gap. For this purpose, two experiments were conducted after selecting categories with high coherence (nuns, soldiers, and flight attendants) and those with low coherence (interpreters, wedding planners, and florists). In experiment 1, we observed that the members of a category were presumed to have certain reasons to prefer [property X] (presumption of reasons for preference), with this presumption becoming stronger when [property X] was observed repeatedly in high-coherence categories than in the case of low-coherence categories. Experiment 2 showed that for the high-coherence categories, the presumption of reasons for preference was stronger when [property X], rarely seen in everyday life (base rate of 30%), was observed, while the presumption of reasons for preference was weaker when [property Y] (base rate 70%), frequently seen in everyday life, was observed. In the low-coherence categories, the presumption of reasons for preference tended to be weak for both rare and frequent attributes. That is, there were significant effects of the two-way interaction between category coherence and base rate on the presumption of reasons for preference. This study has implications for psychological essentialism and stereotyping.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the reasons and mean age for tooth extraction among patients living in Busan city. The researcher observed 1,119 patients' teeth extracted due to dental caries, periodontal disease and other reasons. This study examined the reasons for tooth extraction by age, sex, and tooth-kind. The reasons for tooth extraction were dental caries, periodontal disease, eruption problems and others. The obtained results were as follows; 1. Among the reasons for tooth extraction, dental caries accounted for 25.9%, periodontal disease 56.5%. 2. Periodontal disease was the main reason for tooth extraction and continued throughout life irrespective of sex. However dental caries was remarkably increasing in those aged 30 years old and under. 3. In the extraction of permanent teeth, males outnumbered females while upper teeth did lower teeth. 4. Although the third molars were most extracted in all kinds of teeth, the main reasons for the extraction were eruption problem. 5. The mean age of the tooth extracted was 47.9 years in both sexes for the mandibular first molars and the mandibular first molars had the shortest life except third molars of total teeth. The mandibular canines had the longest life of total teeth. Because dental caries and periodontal disease are the main causes of tooth extraction in Korea, the dental health policy should be focused on the prevention and treatment of these two diseases in the government level.

  • This study is intended to identify various reasons on the 'body' of women described in the paintings by Le Corbusier. As a great artist in the field of modern architecture, various figures of 'body' of women he painted were not a mere physiological body of a woman but a meaningful figure combined with many different types of concept in the social and cultural context. In the field of art, body is recently seen as a 'tool for thinking' that studies dealing with it are being actively conducted. Seen in this context, it is feasible to read the situations and causes at that time through movement and changes in the figure of women's bodies described in his painting. Even if it was a speculative inference, this study aimed examining what reasons and perspective Le Corbusier had when painting women's bodies and what message he intended to convey. Reasons on the 'bodies' of women derived in this study serve as an essence of mentality in understanding the spatial design that was constructed around the time of period. Adopting a different view from many of previous studies in the aspect of skills and spaces, it was intended to study changes in the complex and integrated causes in both spatial design and painting and re-interpret an essence of mentality of the spatial design in the humanistic approach according to the notions in society and culture.

  • This study identifies intention to move, reasons for moving and housing preferences of US residents 55 and older living in non-subsidized and market-rate multifamily housing in the United States. Data were collected using an on-line survey; mixed methods were used for data analysis (N=431). Results show that more than half of the respondents intend to move. Senior residents who were younger than average age of the respondents, not married, renters, had no elevator, and reported lower residential satisfaction with their housing unit, multifamily housing community and local area were more likely to intend to move. Seven reasons for considering moving were found: finance, health, lifecycle stage, housing unit, multifamily housing community, other. When asked about their future housing, more than 80% desired independent living rather than assisted living facilities or nursing homes, 40% wanted to live in multifamily housing, and 51% hoped to own their housing rather than renting. The findings offer meaningful information to the multifamily housing industry in the United States and in countries where the population is aging and where multifamily housing is the predominant housing type.

  • This descriptive study was cone to investigate the incidence of and reasons for the interruption of breast-feeding by married nurses. For this purpose, data was collected from married nurses, each of whose last child was under five years old, living in Seoul, Tong Hae, Sam Chok and Kang Rung. The number of children involved was 208. The data was collected from various places in Seoul, Tong Hae, Sam Chok and Kang Rung area, using 150 survey questionnaires. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The proportion of children receiving breast-feeding was 1.4%, mixed feeding 33.8% and milk feeding 64.9%. The most frequent duration of breast-feeding was one month (80.2%). 2. The major reasons for breast-feeding were the health of the child 97%, and for emotional attachment with the child 75%. 3. The major reasons for interrupting breast-feeding were the job of mother 79.5%, and an abnormality of the breast or nipple 26.0%. 4. The major reasons for quitting breast-feeding were the job of mother 89.2%, insufficient breast milk 34.2%, and breast pain 19.9%. The above results suggest that the breast-feeding ratio in married nurses is very low. Therefore it is recommended that education about and propagation of breast-feeding be carried out. To enhance and promote breast-feeding, hospital managers should provide a comfortable environment, which is conducive to breast-feeding.

  • Purpose - In this study, we consider and examine relationships between reasons for business switch or liquidation (BSL), and the demographics of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in South Korea. The related five variables are occupations, administrative districts, age of employer, firm age and foundation motivation. In addition, eleven levels in association with reasons for BSL visualize the corresponding demographics by measuring their similarity on the dimensional planes assuming that the association exists between variables under consideration. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is done by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in 2016 and examines 20,307 small and medium enterprises. For examining the distinct relationships among variables under consideration, both chi-squared test and correspondence analysis as main statistical tools are used. Results - The results show that among levels of reasons for BSL the three levels -weakening profitability, poor sales and economic depression- are main ones for the five demographics variables mentioned above, and we can obtain the detailed associations between attributes of corresponding variables by inspecting the two dimensional plane. Conclusions - This study suggests reasons for BSL are closely associated with the five different demographics variables - Administrative districts, Firm age, Occupations, Age of employer and Foundation motivation-by looking over results.

  • It has been suggested that children's reasons for reading are various; reading efficacy, challenge, curiosity, involvement, importance, recognition, competition, compliance, grades, avoidance and social interactions. To extend previous studies in which only one or two motivational constructs were studied in relation to reading abilities, this study was carried out to examine 11 inter-relationships of motivational constructs and their relationships to reading abilities. Using the MRQ of Wigfield & Guthrie(1997), and the Basic Learning Skills Test of the Korea Educational Development Institute(1989), 334 elementary school children were measured for their reading motivation and abilities. The results showed that 11 motivational constructs were interrelated, which were also related with reading abilities. Out of 11 motivational constructs, importance was able to predict the reading abilities in multiple-regression analyses. From F-tests, those groups with high reading efficacy, challenge, curiosity, involvement, recognition, competition and social interactions outperformed those with low motivational constructs. The findings of this study confirm that children read for various reasons, and internal motivation and social interactions are significantly related with reading abilities. It is proposed that the internal reasons for reading are also more significant factors in explaining reading abilities than external reasons. Finally, cultural influences on reading motivation and comprehension are also discussed.

The results showed that the reasons for delay of decision making consisted of eight factors: Performance risk, Comparison shopping, Economic shopping, Social risk, Uncertainty, Expecting of market change, Product unsatisfaction, Passive shopping. The shopping information consisted of three factors: Product variety, Product information, Additional information. Five factors of clothing benefits were Economy, Figure compensation, Social position, Individuality, and Comfort. The respondents were classified into four groups by five factors of clothing benefits; Individuality seeking group, Low-benefits seeking group, Economy seeking group, Figure compensation/comfort seeking group. There were significant differences among groups in the reasons for delay of decision making and the shopping information among groups. Therefore, marketers need to provide different shopping information for delay closure by target groups.

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to identify predictors of consumers′ apparel purchase on Internet shopping malls and 2) to determine reasons that respondents didn\`t have purchase intention of apparel on Internet shopping malls. The data were collected via a self-administered questionnaire from 204 male and female students who experienced shopping for apparel on Internet shopping malls, living in Cheju and analyzed by factor analysis, multiple regression analysis, t-test and paired t-test. Two predictors were found regarding purchase of apparel on the "big box" Internet shopping malls which sells various product categories; apparel quality and fun of order process. On the speciality Internet shopping malls which sells only fashion goods, diverse apparel assortment and easy handling and fun of information search were identified as predictors of apparel purchase. Reasons that respondents didn′t have purchase intention of apparel on Internet shopping malls were summarized and labeled as: difficulty of decision making due to virtual shopping environment, insufficiency of diverse apparels, users′ unease handling, risk of incredible apparel quality, unfamiliarity of Internet shopping and risks of unsecurity. Difficulty of decision making due to virtual shopping environment was determined as the most important factor of reasons that respondents didn′t have purchase intention of apparels in website.
