  • IEEE1394 is a de facto standard for the home network interfaces of digital multimedia home devices including digital A/V systems, digital camcorders, and PCs. Recently, it has been used in applications to guarantee the real-time characteristics such as home automation system and IICP (Instrument and Industrial Control Protocol). In order to guarantee real-time requirements in these IEEE1394-based real-time applications, this thesis proposes the software architecture of an IEEE1394 based home network that supports the guarantee for service's react-time characteristics. The proposed architecture has a real-time IEEE1394 device driver and event service architecture for guarantee real-time characteristics. The real-time device driver supports priority-based queueing of packets and mechanism to reduce the interrupt latency time in ISR. The event service architecture supports a real-time events delivery based on home network service using real-time event channel. This architecture can accommodate the real-time requirements of various applications and services such as digital multimedia services with QoS guarantees. home automation system required real-tine characteristics.

  • In this paper, a real time implementation of selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHEPWM) using Real Coded Genetic Algorithm (RGA), Particle Swarm Optimization technique (PSO) and a new technique known as Linearization Method (LM) for Single Phase Matrix Converter (SPMC) is designed and discussed. In the proposed technique, the switching frequency is fixed and the optimum switching angles are obtained using simple mathematical calculations. A MATLAB simulation was carried out, and FFT analysis of the simulated output voltage waveform confirms the effectiveness of the proposed method. An experimental setup was also developed, and the switching angles and firing pulses are generated using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) processor. The proposed method proves that it is much applicable in the industrial applications by virtue of its suitability in real time applications.

  • In real-time database systems, transactions's commitment done before the given deadlines is more important than just getting the maximum throughput. Transactions missing the given deadlines are no longer meaningful in real-time applications. Therefore, there is a need for new transaction processing models to meet the given deadlines in real-time database applications, because moat conventional transaction models are not designed to meet deadlines. In this paper we propose a new transaction models which uses multiple versions of a data item. The model uses read-from graphs and dynamic reorder of transactions to meet deadlines. A read-from graph contains the past read semantics of read operations and support the model to decide which database operation to be taken. Then, we show simulation results comparing the proposed model with other transaction models such as two phase locking model and the optimistic concurrency control model.

  • As application-specific requirements for wireless sensor networks emerge, both real-time and reliable communications become major research challenges in wireless sensor networks due to the many constraints on nodes and wireless links. To support these services, several protocols have been proposed. However, since most of them were designed as well as developed for general purpose applications, it is not recommended that they be directly adapted to applications with special requirements. In this paper, we propose a way to extend the current reliable transport protocol to cover a special real-time service, the (m,k)-firm deadline stream, in wireless sensor networks. While the proposed scheme is basically built on the PSFQ protocol for reliability, some features have been newly developed to support the (m,k)-firm stream efficiently. Finally, simulation results are given to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme in high traffic and with failed links.

  • The CRT monitor display system for SONAR signal that are commonly used in ships or naval vessels uses vector scanning method. Therefore the processing circuits of the system are complex. Also the purchase of parts is difficult as well as high-cost because the production had been shut down. FPGA-based embedded system is flexible to various digital applications because it can be able to simplify processing circuits and to make a easy customized design for end user, and it provides low-cost high-speed performance. In this paper, we describe an implementation of FPGA embedded system for real-time SONAR signal display using the triple buffering method to overcome some weakness of existing CRT system. Our system provides real-time acquisition and display capability of SONAR signal, and removes afterimage effect that is a critical problem of the system proposed in the preceding study.

  • The real time IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) management is very important for large buildings and underground facilities such as subways because poor IAQ is immediately harmful to human health. Such IAQ management requires monitoring, prediction and control in an integrated and real time manner. In this paper, we present three PM10 hourly prediction models for such realtime IAQ management as both Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models. Both MLR and ANN models show good performances between 0.76 and 0.88 with respect to R (correlation coefficient) between the measured and predicted values, but the MLR models outperform the corresponding ANN models with respect to RMSE (root mean square error).

  • The application for real-time database systems must satisfy timing constraints. Typically the timing constraints are expressed in the form of deadlines which are represented by priorities to e used by schedulers. In any real-time applications, since the system maintains sensitive information to be shared by multiple users with different levels of security clearance, security is another important requirement. As more advanced database systems are being used in applications that need to support timeliness while managing sensitive information, protocols that satisfy both requirements need to be developed. In this appear, we proposed a new priority-driven secure multiversion locking (PSMVL) protocol for real-time secure database systems. The schedules produced by PSMVL are proven to e one-copy serializable. We have also shown tat the protocol eliminates covert channels and priority inversions. The details of the protocol, including the compatibility matrix and the version selection algorithms are presented. the results of the performance comparisons of our protocol with other protocols are described.

  • Multi-core system is becoming more general with development of microprocessors. Due to this change in performance improvement paradigm, switching conventional single thread applications with multi thread applications. Performance monitoring tools are used to optimize application performance because of complexity in development of multi thread applications. Conventional performance monitoring tools are focused on performance itself rather than user friendliness or real-time support. Real-time performance monitor identify the problem while multi-threaded applications should be performed as well as check real-time operating status of the application. So it can be used as an effective tool compared to non-real-time performance monitor that only with simple performance indicators to find the cause of the problem. In this paper, we propose RMPM(Real-time Multi-core Performance Monitor) which is real-time performance monitoring tool for multi-core system. Observation period is optimized by comparing relation between overhead due to performance evaluation period and accuracy. Our performance monitor shows not only amount of CPU usage of whole system, memory usage, network usage but also aspect of overhead distribution per thread of an application.

  • Real-time techniques are motivated by a number of factors including the potential for direct acquisition of diagnostic quality images, facilitation of patient-specific imaging parameters, and reduced examination time. Real-time MRI includes not only a rapid pulse sequence but also high speed image reconstruction and easy interactivity. The frame rate of the real-time technique used should be matched to the physiological timeframes under study. Principal applications thusfar have been in localization, fluoroscopic triggering, guidance of other processes, and potentially in the generation of diagnostic images of moving structures.
