Design of a Remote Distributed Embedded System Using the Internet and CAN (인터넷과 CAN을 이용한 원격 분산 Embedded System 설계)

  • A small size and light-weight DSP board is newly designed for a real time multi-distributed control system that overcomes constraints on time and space. There are a variety of protocols for a real-time distributed control system. In this research, we selected CAN for the multi distributed control, which was developed by the BOSCH in the early 1980's. If CAN and Internet are connected together, the system attains the characteristics of a distributed control system and a remote control system simultaneously. To build such a system. The TCP/IP-CAN Gateway which converts a CAN protocol to TCP/IP protocol and vice verse, was designed. Moreover, the system is required to be small and light-weighted for the high mobility and cost effectiveness. The equipment in remote place has a TCP/IP-CAN Gateway on itself to be able to communicate with another systems. The received commands in the remote site are converted from TCP/IP protocol to CAN protocol by the TCP/IP-CAN Gateway in real time. A simulation system consists of a TCP/IP-CAN Gateway in remote place and a command PC to be connected to Ethernet.

  • Iris recognition is a biometric technology which can identify a person using the iris pattern. Recently, using iris information is used in many fields such as access control and information security. But Perform complex operations to extract features of the iris. Because high-end hardware for real-time iris recognition is required. This paper is appropriate for the embedded environment using local gradient histogram embedded system with iris feature extraction methods based on USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network). Experimental results show that the performance of proposed method is comparable to existing methods using Gabor transform noticeably improves recognition performance and it is noted that the processing time of the local gradient histogram transform is much faster than that of the existing method and rotation was also a strong attribute.

  • As the new technologies, such as IEEE 1394, USB, Bluetooth, PLC are appeared, the embedded real time operating system which is satisfied the various technologies is needed. This paper proposed and implemented C standard library which is independently used in real time operating system and which supports an application development interface. The proposed C standard library is based on EL/IX, an Embedded Linux API based on POSIX, which is suitable for other embedded operating systems as well. And because the proposed C standard library has four level, it supports various Internet appliances, such as digital TV, settop box. The developed C library is tested at Qplus-P real time operating system which is developed at ETRI.

  • According to the growth of communication biz, embedded market rapidly developing in domestic and overseas. Embedded system can be used in various way such as wire and wireless communication equipment or information products. There are lots of developing performance applying speech recognition to embedded system, for instance, PDA, PCS, CDMA-2000 or IMT-2000. This study implement minimum memory of speech recognition engine and DB for apply real time embedded system. The implement measure of speech recognition equipment to fit on embedded system is like following. At first, DC element is removed from Input voice and then a compensation of high frequency was achieved by pre-emphasis with coefficients value, 0.97 and constitute division data as same size as 256 sample by lapped shift method. Through by Levinson - Durbin Algorithm, these data can get linear predictive coefficient and again, using Cepstrum - Transformer attain feature vectors. During HMM training, We used Baum-Welch reestimation Algorithm for each words training and can get the recognition result from executed likelihood method on each words. The used speech data is using 40 speech command data and 10 digits extracted form each 15 of male and female speaker spoken menu control command of Embedded system. Since, in many times, ARM CPU is adopted in embedded system, it's peformed porting the speech recognition engine on ARM core evaluation board. And do the recognition test with select set 1 and set 3 parameter that has good recognition rate on commander and no digit after the several tests using by 5 proposal recognition parameter sets. The recognition engine of recognition rate shows 95%, speech commander recognizer shows 96% and digits recognizer shows 94%.

  • In this paper, to improve the fast boot and soft real-time for the responsiveness in Qplus with relative evaluation rather than an absolute evaluation using validated to perform the services actually used. Qplus is included soft real-time, fast booting, and file system technology. There is a development board that mounted on an embedded Linux and Qplus. AV (Audio / Video) group communications is ported on the development board for soft real-time multimedia streaming services and to evaluate the performance of communication. We performed three major evaluation such as booting time measurement experiment, own performance measurement experiments for soft real-time measurement experiment, and performance measurement experiments for via the network communication performance evaluation. They are a practical Qplus performance evaluation and analysis.

One of merits seems to be that operating environment of embedded system is the same as development environment using PC. That makes developing and manufacturing period shorten and also proper time to market Most of all machinery have sequential control system for their maneuvering which is composed of relays. contacts. timers. etc. In this paper. software sequential control system is proposed to be able to replace hardware sequential control system by using embedded system A lot of merits by the software sequential control system can be expected in the respect of economic reproduction, intelligent technologies and utilities, And porting of LINUX operating system to embedded system is carried out and device drivers and interface boards for LINUX 05 are designed for controlling air compressor by software Internet remote control and monitoring system of air compressor is implemented with Java script and CGI for these purposes. The experiment for operating air compressor system is taken through internet networks. The results show that developed system can be used for real plant.

  • An embedded sensor is significantly influenced by its spatial environment, such as barriers or distance, through low power and signal strength. Due to these causes, noise data frequently occur in an embedded sensor. Because the information acquired from the embedded sensor exists in a time series, it is hard to detect an error which continuously takes place in the time series information on a realtime basis. In this paper, we proposes an error detection method based on time-series prediction that detects error signals of embedded sensors in real time in consideration of the physical characteristics of embedded devices. The error detection method based on time-series prediction proposed in this paper determines errors in generated embedded device signals using a stable distance function. When detecting errors by monitoring signals from an embedded device, the stable distance function can detect error signals effectively by applying error weight to the latest signals.   • The software components of embedded control systems get extremely complex as they are designed into distributed systems get extremely complex as they are designed into distributed systems consisting of a large number of inexpensive microcontrollers interconnected by low-bandwidth real-time networks such as the controller area network (CAN). While recently emerging middleware technologies such as CORBA and DCOM address the complexity of distributed programming, they cannot be directly applied to distributed control system design due to their excessive resource demand and inadequate communication models. In this paper, we propose a CORBA-based middleware design for CAN-based distributed embedded control systems. Our design goal is to minimize its resource need and make it support group communication without losing the IDL (interface definition language) level compliance to the OMG standards. To achieve this, we develop a transport protocol on the CAN and a group communication scheme based on the well-known publisher/subscriber model. The protocol effectively realizes subject-based addressing and supports anonymous publisher/subscriber communication. We also customize the method invocation and message passing protocol, referred to as the general inter-ORB protocol (GIOP), of CORBA so that CORBA method invocations are efficiently serviced on a low-bandwidth network such as the CAN. This customization includes packed data encoding and variable-length integer encoding for compact representation of IDL data types. We have implemented our CORBA-based middleware on the mArx real-time operating system we have developed at Seoul National University. Our experiments clearly demonstrate that it is feasible to use CORBA in developing distributed embedded control systems possessing severe resource limitations. Our design clearly demonstrates that it is feasible to use a CORBA-based middleware in developing distributed embedded systems on real-time networks possessing severe resource limitations.

  • This paper finds solutions for using ZigBee in wireless networked control system (WNCS). The round trip time delay and packet loss rate of the WNCS are measured. On the basis of these measured data, a playback buffer is used to solve the variable time delay in WNCS, and a Smith predictor is introduced to compensate for the time delay. The WNCS was able to be actually constructed to perform DC motor position control with 40 Hz sampling frequency.

Designing of Network based Tiny Ubiquitous Networked Systems (네트워크 기반의 소형 유비쿼터스 시스템의 개발)

  • In this paper, we present a network-oriented lightweight real-time system, which is composed of an event-driven operating system called the Embedded Lightweight Operating System (ELOS) and a generic multi hop ad hoc routing protocol suite. In the ELOS, a conditional preemptive FCFS scheduling method with a guaranteed time slot is designed for efficient real-time processing. For more elaborate configurations, we reinforce fault tolerance by supplementing semi-auto configuration using wireless agent nodes. The developed hardware platform is also introduced, which is a scalable prototype constructed using off-the-shelf components. In addition, in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, we developed a ubiquitous network test-bed on which several experiments with respect to various environments are conducted. The results show that the ELOS is considerably favorable for tiny ubiquitous networked systems with real-time constraints.
