  • In this paper, we use the moments of order statistics derived by Lieblein (1955) to develop the correlation goodness-of-fit test for the Rayleigh distribution. In such we simulate the percentage points of the test statistics for the one-parameter and two-parameter cases. In addition, we calculate the power of the proposed tests based on some alterative distributions. Finally, we apply the procedures developed in the paper to some real data.

  • Large Eddy Simulation(LES) has been conducted to insight interaction effects of turbulent flow and chemical reaction of a lean-Premixed swirl combustor. The unsteady turbulent flame is carefully simulated so that the motion of flow and flame can be characterized in detail. Fuel lumps escaping from the primary combustion zone move downstream and consequently produce local hot spots conveying large vortical structures in the azimuthal direction. The correlation between pressure oscillation and unsteady heat release is examined by the spatial and temporal Rayleigh parameter.

  • The evaluation of velocity profile for large values of buoyancy parameter and Bioconvected Rayleigh number is examined. The non-linear problem has been tackled numerically by shooting technique. Nanofluid temperature and nanoparticle concentration slightly elevates for increasing values of thermophoresis coefficient. Thickness of thermal boundary layer is significantly increased with thermophoresis coefficient whereas thickness of concentration boundary layer is more slightly enhanced. The response of temperature and nanoparticles concentration is observed due to change in Brownian motion parameter. As Brownian motion parameter increased temperature distribution is slightly enhanced. The reverse behavior is observed in case of nanoparticles concentration. Comparison of numerical technique with the extant literature is made and an acceptable agreement is attained.

  • The vibration characteristic of thin laminated orthotropic cylindrical shell is investigated based on the Donnell theory. The Rayleigh-Ritz variational procedure is employed. For the variety of shell end conditions, the beam characteristic function is used for the axial mode function. The result of the present analysis is in good agreement with some available analytical results and NASTRAN and BOSOR4 calculations. In the present study, the relation between natural frequencies and orthotropic parameter k is investigated. Introducing the frequency parameter, this study shows that the frequency parameter increases as the orthotropic parameter k approaches to one.

  • The crustal structure of the Korean Peninsula was investigated by analyzing phase velocity dispersion data of Rayleigh waves. Earthquakes recorded by three component broad-band velocity seismographs during 1999-2004 in South Korea were used in this study. The fundamental mode Rayleigh waves were extracted from vertical components of seismograms by multiple filter technique and phase match filter method. Phase velocity dispersion curves of the fundamental mode signal pairs for 14 surface wave propagation paths on the great circle in the range 10 to 80 sec were computed by two-station method. Treating the shear velocity of each layer as an independent parameter, phase velocity data of Rayleigh wave were inverted. All the result models can be explained by a rather homogeneous crust of shear-wave velocity increasing from 2.8 to 3.25 km/sec from top to about 33 km depth without any distinctive crustal discontinuities and an uppermost mantle of shear-wave velocity between 4.55 and 4.67 km/sec. Our results turn out to agree well with recent study of Cho et al. (2006 b) based on the analysis of seismic background noises to recover short-period (0.5-20 sec) Rayleigh- and Love-wave group velocity dispersion characteristics.

  • The quadratic B-spline finite element method yields mass and stiffness matrices which are half the size of matrices obtained by the conventional finite element method. We solve the free vibration problem of a rotating Rayleigh beam using the quadratic B-spline finite element method. Rayleigh beam theory includes the rotary inertia effects in addition to the Euler-Bernoulli theory assumptions and presents a good mathematical model for rotating beams. Galerkin's approach is used to obtain the weak form which yields a system of symmetric matrices. Results obtained for the natural frequencies at different rotating speeds show an accurate match with the published results. A comparison with Euler-Bernoulli beam is done to decipher the variations in higher modes of the Rayleigh beam due to the slenderness ratio. The results are obtained for different values of non-uniform parameter ($\bar{n}$).

  • The present research is concerned to study the effect of fractional parameter and rotation on the propagation of Rayleigh waves in an orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic media with three-phase-lags in the context of fractional order theory of generalized thermoelasticity with combined effect of rotation and hall current. The secular equations of Rayleigh waves are derived by using the appropriate boundary conditions. The wave properties such as phase velocity, attenuation coefficient are computed numerically and the numerical simulated results are presented through graphs to show the effect on all the components. Some special cases are also discussed in the present investigation.

  • Software stability is the possibility of operating without any malfunction in the operating environment over time. In a finite failure NHPP for software failure analysis, the failure occurrence rate may be constant, monotonically increasing, or monotonically decreasing. In this study, based on the NHPP model and based on the software failure time data, we compared and analyzed the attributes of the software development cost model using the exponential distribution Rayleigh distribution and inverse exponential distribution considering the shape parameter of the Weibull distribution as the life distribution. The results of this study show that the Rayleigh model is the fastest release time and has the economic cost compared to the inverse-exponential model and the Goel-Okumoto model. Using the results of this study, it can be expected that software developers and operators will be able to predict the optimal release time and economic development cost.
