Control of Three-Phase Three-Switch Buck-Type Rectifier in EV Rapid Charging Systems

  • This paper investigates an economic and highly efficient power converter topology and its modulation scheme for 60kW rapid EV charger system. The target system consists of three-phase three-switch buck-type rectifier topology. A new Carrier Based PWM scheme along with its simple implementation using logic gates is introduced in this paper. This PWM scheme replaces the diode rectifier equivalent switching state with an active switching state producing the effectively same current flowing path. As a result, the distortion of input current during the polarity reversal of capacitor line voltage can be mitigated. The proposed modulation technique is confirmed through simulation verification. The proposed modulation technique and its implementation scheme can expand the operation range of the three-phase three-switch buck-type rectifier having ac input and capacitor ripple current of high quality.

  • With developed countries, nationally the supply and development of electric vehicle(EV) has been going at a rapid pace. Now, the charger specifications, charging methods and standardization of communication protocols is going in each country and a lot of company are involved in the business about those. To popularize it as existing car, it is required to build the network and infrastructure which is proper for domestic environment. It should also need to be able to develop standardized protocols can be beyond the construction of the protocol of the upper stage server and charger, and is used in a residential environment actually applied to related industries. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a home network model of EV that raised the need for a study of the charging system for EV, using M2M technology and multi-charging system tailored to the residential environment of our country.

  • 본 논문은 전기 자동차 급속 충전기 구현을 위한 커플드 인덕터 기반 18kW급 2상 인터리브드 벅 컨버터 설계에 관하여 설명한다. 전류 리플 및 물리적인 크기 감소를 위한 2상 커플드 인덕터와 고효율 달성을 위한 Silicon Carbide(SiC) MOSEFT 기반 2상 인터리브드 벅 컨버터의 설계에 관하여 상세히 기술한다. 제안하는 2상 인터리브드 벅 컨버터의 동작을 위하여 모의 실험과 실험을 진행하였고 이론적인 설계 방법과 실제 실험 결과가 일치하는 것을 확인하였다.

  • This study presents the design of an 18 kW two-phase interleaved buck converter that uses a coupled inductor for an electric vehicle rapid charger. The designs of a two-phase coupled inductor for current ripple and physical size reduction and a two-phase interleaved buck converter based on silicon carbide metal - oxide - semiconductor field-effect transistor for high efficiency were described in detail. The operating principle of the two-phase interleaved buck converter was analyzed, and the coupled inductor was investigated using a magnetized equivalent circuit. Simulation and experiments were conducted to verify the validity of the proposed two-phase interleaved buck converter, and the theoretical design method and experimental results were confirmed.

  • This paper investigates the design of multi-winding coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple in rapid traction battery charger systems. Based on the general circuit model of multi-winding coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -(1/n-1), i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches 1/n, 2/n, … or (n1)/n. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches either zero or one.

  • This paper investigates the design of coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple in rapid traction battery charger systems.   • Charger infrastructure facilities are designed and installed based on a constant power supply. Initially designed charging facilities support charging of rapidly growing electric vehicles on a limited power supply basis. In addition, current commercial vehicles can only be fully charged, and are supported by the rapid equalization charging method. However, commercial vehicles operate according to a set schedule, so flexible charging is essential. In this paper, we propose a power operation method with more than 20% efficiency improvement by using a fixed schedule-based charging scheduling and power distribution technique of a commercial bus based on the same amount of power in accordance with the rapid growth and increase of electric vehicles.

  • This study investigates an economic and highly efficient power-converter topology and its modulation scheme for 60 kW rapid EV charger system.   • High power density and power conversion efficiency have been required in the power converters according to the rapid growth of industry. In this context, the next generation High Speed Train(HST) requires power converter which has high-efficiency, high-performance and high-density. In this paper, the new control technique for battery charger used for the next generation HST is proposed. The phase shift ZVZCS converter is classified according to a resonant circuit which is located in the primary or secondary side. In this paper, The PWM switching technique using all-pass filter is proposed to control ZVZCS converter which has resonant circuit in the secondary side. ATmega_128 micro controller based in all-pass filter in substitute for phase shift IC is presented to have digital control. To verify the proposed topology, the simulation and experiment are performed by using PSIM software and 1[kW] experimental set-up.

A Study On Low Radiation Measurement of Radiation Measuring Devices and Improvement of Reaction Speed according to the Rapid Change of Radiation Dose (방사선 측정장치의 저준위 방사선 측정과 방사선량의 급격한 변화에 따른 장치의 반응 속도개선에 관한 연구)

  • This paper suggests an algorithm to measure low-level radiation by radiation measuring devices, and the other algorithm to improve reaction speed of the device to better respond to dramatic changes in radiation amount. The former algorithm to improve the accuracy of measuring low-level radiation takes advantage of a dual window radiation measurement method which is based on accumulated average of pulses gathered by a radiation measuring sensor. The latter algorithm is to enhance reaction speed of a measuring device to more sensitively react to dramatic changes in radiation amount by adopting a dual window radiation measurement method which analyzes data patterns newly put into for six seconds. To verify the suggested algorithms, a hardware-which consists of sensor and high-voltage generator, controller, charger and power supply circuit, wireless communication part, and display part-was used. Tests conducted on the dual window radiation measurement method as used in the suggested algorithm have proved that accuracy improves to measure low-level radiation of 5uSv/h, and linearity also gets better. Other tests were conducted to see whether the suggested algorithm enhances the reaction speed of a radiation measuring device so that the device responds better to dramatically changing radiation amount. The experimental results have shown meaningful changes in numbers after six seconds. Therefore, the conclusions are made that the algorithm enhances the reaction speed of the device.
