  • Kinematic and kinetic analysis has been performed for Soft Golf swings utilizing realistic three dimensional computer simulations based on three dimensional motion tracking data. Soft Golf is a newly developed recreational sport in South Korea aimed to become a safe and easy-to-learn sport for all ages. The advantage of Soft Golf stems from lighter weight of the club and much larger area of the sweet spot. This paper tries to look into kinematic and kinetic aspects of soft golf swings compared to regular golf swing and find the advantages of lighter Soft Golf clubs. For this purpose, swing motions of older aged participants were captured and kinematic analysis was performed for various kinematic parameters such as club head velocity, joint angular velocity, and joint range of motions as a pilot study. Kinetic analysis was performed by applying kinematic data to computer simulation models constructed from anthropometric database and the measurements from the participants. The simulations were solved using multi-body dynamics solver. Firstly, the kinematic parameters such as joint angles were obtained by solving inverse dynamics problem based on motion tracking data. Secondly, the kinetic parameters such as joint torques were obtained by solving control dynamics problem of making joint torque to follow pre-defined joint angle data. The results showed that mechanical loadings to major joints were reduced with lighter Soft Golf club.

  • The concentric dual-buoy Wave Energy Converter (WEC), which consists of external buoy (hallow-cylinder) with toroidal appendage and cylindrical internal buoy within the moon-pool is suggested in this research and its performance in various wave conditions is studied. The Linear Electric Generator (LEG), consisting of a permanent magnet and coils, is used as a direct Power Take-Off (PTO) system. To maximize the electrical energy extracted from the PTO system, the relative heave motions between the dual buoys must be highly amplified by the multiple resonance phenomena of dual-buoy and internal-fluid motions. The high-performance range can be widened by distributing those natural frequencies with respect to the peak frequency of the wave spectrum. The performance of the newly developed dual-buoy WEC was measured throughout the systematic 1:5.95-model test in regular and irregular waves conducted in a wave tank at Seoul National University. The model-test results are also validated by an independently developed numerical method.

  • Micro-Doppler (MD) shift caused by the micro-motion of a ballistic missile (BM) can be very useful to identify it. In this paper, the MD signatures of three scale-model BMs are investigated using a portable measurement system. The measurement system consists of an X-band 2-by-2 phase comparison mono-pulse radar, and a mechanical device that can impart controlled spinning and coning motions simultaneously to a model to yield the MD signature that replicates the characteristic of each target and the corresponding micro-motion. The coning motion determined the overall period of MD, and the spinning motion increased its amplitude. MD was also dependent on aspect angle. The designed system is portable, and can implement many micro-motions; it will contribute to analysis of MD in various situations.

  • PC users have long been controlling their computers using input devices such as mouse and keyboard. To improve inconveniences of these devices, the method of screen-touching has widely been used these days, and devices recognizing human gestures are being developed one after another. Fox example, Kinect, developed and distributed by Microsoft, is a non-contact input device that recognizes human gestures through motion-recognizing sensors, thus replacing the mouse as an input device. However, when controlling the mouse on a large screen, it suffers from the problem of requiring large motions in order to move the mouse pointer to the edges of the screen. In this paper, we propose a joystick-driven mouse-controlling method which enables the user to move the mouse pointer to the corners of the screen with small motions. The experimental results show that movements of the user's palm within the range of 30 cm ensure movements of the mouse pointer to the edges of the screen.

  • The line widths and spin-lattice relaxation times of protons in $[N(C_2H_5)_4]_2CoCl_4$ and $[N(CH_3)_4]_2CoCl_4$ single crystals were investigated in the temperature range 160-400 K. The temperature dependences of the spin-lattice relaxation times are attributed to the molecular motions of the ethyl and methyl groups in the $[N(C_2H_5)_4]^+$ and $[N(CH_3)_4]^+$ ions respectively. The NMR line widths indicate that the ethyl groups in $[N(C_2H_5)_4]_2CoCl_4$ have one more degree of freedom than the methyl groups in $[N(CH_3)_4]_2CoCl_4$. The experimental results are interpreted in terms of the reorientations of the methyl and ethyl groups.

  • In this paper, It is studied that the variation of the dielectric absorption of the specimen according to the change with $^{60}$ Co-${\gamma}$ ray irradiation dose of the influence of temperature and applied voltage. In order to investigate the effect of irradiated oriented polypropylene film, we have observed dielectric properties within the temporature range of 30~130 ($^{\circ}C$) and voltage range of 100~250 (V). As for the dependency of temperature by tan $\delta$, the $\alpha$ peak which appears at high temperature increases accordingly to the increment of irradiation dose which is contributed by the crystal region and moves towards the high temperature. The $\beta$ peak which appears the orientation by dipoles and molecular motions in the amorphous region at low temperature. For the dependency of voltage by tan $\delta$ at low temperature, the peak of the tan $\delta$ shifts accordingly to the increment of irradiation dose towards the high temperature region.

  • Recognition of human motions has become a main area of computer vision due to its potential human-computer interface (HCI) and surveillance. Among those existing recognition techniques for human motions, head detection and tracking is basis for all human motion recognitions. Various approaches have been tried to detect and trace the position of human head in two-dimensional (2D) images precisely. However, it is still a challenging problem because the human appearance is too changeable by pose, and images are affected by illumination change. To enhance the performance of head detection and tracking, the real-time three-dimensional (3D) data acquisition sensors such as time-of-flight and Kinect depth sensor are recently used. In this paper, we propose an effective feature extraction method, called adaptive local binary pattern (ALBP), for depth image based applications. Contrasting to well-known conventional local binary pattern (LBP), the proposed ALBP cannot only extract shape information without texture in depth images, but also is invariant distance change in range images. We apply the proposed ALBP for head detection and tracking in depth images to show its effectiveness and its usefulness.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the fitness using the draft method to develop moderate-stretch knit block pattern for young women in Korea. The subjects were three women within the range of the ages from 18 to 24 showing the average body figures. In this study, 4 different patterns were drafted for the moderate stretch knitted fabrics, that were categorised into two different types. The first type of these was made up for kilted fabrics and the other was initially drafted for woven fabrics and altered for knitted materials afterward. The major findings derived from this investigation were as follows; 1. According to each sensory evaluation for the appearance test on fitness, knit block patterns A and D were the better than the rest of them. 2. Knit block patterns A and D with higher evaluation scores were drafted with body size measurements except the waist line, whereas patterns B and C with relatively lower scores were produced including the smaller ease amounts than the woven block pattern. 3. To see the results of the functional test based on the designed ten motions for this experiment, knit block patterns A and B were concluded as better than the rest of them. In addition, concerning the arm liking motions, pattern B was scored as the best among the developed patterns.

  • In improving laser cutting of optical plastic films for mass production of optoelectronics display units, it is important to understand particle contamination over optical film surface due to fume particle generation and dispersion. This numerical study investigates the effects of downward and upward air flow motions on fume particle dispersion around laser cut line. The simulations employ random particle sampling of up to one million fume particles by probabilistic distributions of particle size, ejection velocity and angle, and fume particle dispersion and surface landing are predicted using Basset-Boussinesq-Oseen model of low Reynolds number flows. The numerical results show that downward air flow scatters fume particles of a certain size range farther away from laser cut line and aggravate surface contamination. However, upward air flow pushes fume particles of this size range back toward laser cut line or sucks them up with rising air motion, thus significantly alleviating surface contamination.

  • The effects of film thickness on the dipolar relaxation of ferroelectric PbTiO$_3$ films were investigated in the microwave-frequency range. The dielectric constants ($\varepsilon$) and the dielectric losses (tan $\delta$) were successfully measured up to 30 ㎓ using interdigital capacitors. The PbTiO$_3$ thin films were deposited on the quartz substrate at room temperature and postannealed in oxygen atmosphere. As the film thickness increased, its grain size and tetragonality were enhanced. And the dipolar relaxation behavior began to appear in the thin films with approximately 20 nm thickness, since ferroelectric domains could not be formed hi small grains. The observed relaxation frequency (above 10 ㎓) was higher than the previous values reported in bulk ceramics. It can be correlated with the extremely small domain size of the thinfilms as shown by TEM. And, the Rayleigh constant [1] from domain wall motions was alsoinvestigated by LCR meter at 100 KHz.
