  • Genetic diversity among selected isolates of Macrophomina phaseolina, a causal agent of charcoal rot (stalk rot) disease in sorghum was studied using PCR-RAPD markers. A set of ten isolates, from ten different rabi sorghum genotypes representing two traditional sorghum growing situations viz., Dharwad- a transitional high rainfall region and Bijapur- a semi-arid low rainfall region in South India. From a set of 40 random primers tested, amplicon profiles of 15 were reproducible. A total of 149 amplicon levels, with an average of 9.9 bands per primer, were available for analysis, of which 148 were polymorphic (99.3%). It was possible to discriminate all the isolates with any of the 15 primers employed. UPGMA clustering of data indicated that the isolates shared varied levels of genetic similarity within a range of 0.14 to 0.72 similarity coefficient index and it was suggestive that grouping of isolates was not related to sampling location in anyway. A high level of genetic heterogeneity of 0.28 was recorded among the isolates.

  • In this paper we propose new approximate method for the performance analysis of closed-loop production system with unreliable machines and random processing times. The approximate method decomposes the production system consisting of K machines into a set of K subsystems, each subsystem consisting of two machines separated by a finite buffer. Then, each subsystem is analyzed by analyzing method n isolation. The population constraint of the closed-loop production system is taken into account by prescribing that the sum of average buffer level in the subsystems is equal to the number of customers in the closed-loop production system,. We establish a set of equations that characterizes unknown parameters of the servers in the subsystems. An iterative procedure is then used to determine the unknown parameters. Experimental results show that these methods provide a good estimation of the throughput.

Each approximate method decomposes the production system consisting of K machines into a set of K subsystems, each subsystem consisting of two machines separated by a finite buffer. Then, each subsystem is analyzed by three different analyzing methods in isolation. The population constraint of the closed-loop production system is taken into account by prescribing that the sum of average buffer levels in the subsystems is equal to the number of customers in the closed-loop production system. We establish a set of equations that characterize unknown parameters of the servers in the subsystems. An iterative procedure is then used to determine the unknown parameters. • The undrained shear strength of soil is considered one of the engineering parameters of utmost significance in geotechnical design methods. In-situ experiments like cone penetration tests (CPT) have been used in the last several years to estimate the undrained shear strength depending on the characteristics of the soil. Nevertheless, the majority of these techniques rely on correlation presumptions, which may lead to uneven accuracy. This research's general aim is to extend a new united soft computing model, which is a combination of random forest (RF) with grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA) to the pile set-up parameters' better approximation from CPT, based on two different types of data as inputs. Data type 1 contains pile parameters, and data type 2 consists of soil properties. The contribution of this article is that hybrid GOA - RF for the first time, was suggested to forecast the pile set-up parameter from CPT. In order to do this, CPT data and related bore log data were gathered from 70 various locations across Louisiana. With an R2 greater than 0.9098, which denotes the permissible relationship between measured and anticipated values, the results demonstrated that both models perform well in forecasting the set-up parameter. It is comprehensible that, in the training and testing step, the model with data type 2 has finer capability than the model using data type 1, with R2 and RMSE are 0.9272 and 0.0305 for the training step and 0.9182 and 0.0415 for the testing step. All in all, the models' results depict that the A parameter could be forecasted with adequate precision from the CPT data with the usage of hybrid GOA - RF models. However, the RF model with soil features as input parameters results in a finer commentary of pile set-up parameters.

  • It is shown that a lattice distribution defined on a set of n lattice points $L(n,\delta) = {\delta,\delta+1,...,\delta+n-1}$ is a distribution induced from the distribution of convolution of independently and identically distributed (i.i.d.) uniform [0,1] random variables. Also the m-th moment of the lattice distribution is obtained in a quite different approach from Park and Chung (1978). It is verified that the distribution of the sum of n i.i.d. uniform [0,1] random variables is completely determined by the lattice distribution on $L(n,\delta)$ and the uniform distribution on [0,1]. The factorial mement generating function, factorial moments, and moments are also obtained.

  • Mixed linear models have been widely used in various correlated data including multivariate survival data. In this paper we extend hierarchical-likelihood(h-likelihood) approach for mixed linear models with right censored data to that for left censored data. We also allow a general random-effect structure and propose the estimation procedure. The proposed method is illustrated using a numerical data set and is also compared with marginal likelihood method.

  • Let $Z^d$ denote the set of all d-tuples of integers$(d \geq 1, a positive integer)$. The points in $Z^d$ will be denoted by $\underline{m},\underline{n}$, etc., or sometime, when necessary, more explicitly by $(m_1, m_2, \cdots, m_d)$, $(n_1, n_2, \cdots, n_d)$ etc. $Z^d$ is partially ordered by stipulating $\underline{m} \underline{<}\underline{n} iff m_i \leq n_i$ for each i, $1 \leq i \leq d$.

  • Expected mean square(EMS) is an important part of conducting the analysis of variance in the experimental design problem, especially in mixed or random models. We present a set of EMS rules for balanced factorial designs under no restriction on interaction. Also we point out how to use the variance component of SPSS or SAS procedure to obtain EMS.

  • In the one-way random effect model, we often estimate the variance components by the ANOVA method and then estimate the population mean. Whe there are only two distint group sizes, the conventional mean estimator is represented as a weighted average of two normal means with weights being the function of variance component estimators. In this paper, we will study a method which can compute the exact variance of the mean estimator when we set the negative variance component estimate to zero.

  • This paper deals with a mixed logit model for ordered polytomous data. There are two types of factors affecting the response varable in this paper. One is a fixed factor with finite quantitative levels and the other is a random factor coming from an experimental structure such as a randomized complete block design. It is discussed how to set up the model for analyzing ordered polytomous data and illustrated how to estimate the paramers in the given model.
